Yes, old passport is fine, just make sure she carries a copy of her marriage certificate to evidence the name discrepancy.
I'm not sure from your timeline, but will she be returning to the US with her green card? And her GC name is different from her passport name?
Yes, her GC name is different from her passport name?

If they are taking applications according to what you were told by the embassy. I would go ahead and apply for a new one. It can take weeks to get the new one back so I wouldn't waste much time since you will be leaving in two months.
I'm a bit worried though. if they're taking applications I wonder why their website still stays they're not issuing passports. I wonder if the operator had the wrong information.

I need a new Ghana Passport after I got married in USA.
Looking at the Ghana Embassy, Washington, website, there's a notice that due to technical difficulties they're no longer issuing passports at that location since December 2015.
The notice is still on the front page as I type now.
But when I called the embassy and spoke with an operator, who sounded clueless, she said they're still taking applications for passport.
Does anybody know anything about Ghana embassy not issuing passports anymore or anything to that effect?
My current passport still has my old name before marriage and I need a new passport with my new name since I'm traveling in 2 months. Thanks.

If you don't want any delays.. Just get a new passport.
When you get married and change your name, passport is one of the documents recommended to be changed also.
As you may already be aware, the marriage certificate from Ghana is not the typical document common with westerners so, you get extra scrutiny.
Don't take that chance. Get a new one.
Her marriage certificate is not from Ghana. It's a marriage certificate from the US Court after she entered the usa on K1 Visa.

Yes, her GC bears her new name and she's travelling with her 10yrs Green Card.

My wife had her name changed after we got married on a k1 visa in usa. of course she changed her name to take my last name.
Now she wants to visit her home country but her passport still bears her original /old name and not the new name.
Can she travel with the old passport or she needs to get a new passport?

All your taxes, financial papers, marriage certificate etc are not needed to support her... your sister in law needs her own financial statement whether you are the one paying for her trip or not..I have been in that rute before .. my wife took all her tax, fianancial papers, payment stab etc and also stated in my non immigrant application that, she is the one paying for my trip. They didn't look my supporting documents nor hers.. My wife went to talk to the supervisor at the counslate and he explained to her that, all her documents are not needed to support me.. I need to proof to the embassy and the Co that, I will return to my country after my visit.well, I was not married to my wife at that time thou.. so please have your sister in law own bank statement , employees letter payment stab from where she works etc.. what she make per month is important to them..
hmmm, that helps a lot. Problem is. She's self employed. she sells produce in the market and she's being doing that for at least 5yrs now. But as those of you from Ghana may know, she has no business papers, pay stub, or no one to get employment verification letters from. She does it all by herself
What kind of documents will she need to present to convince the consulate that she will return after her stay?
which she plans to do in all honesty.
-
Well she can't exactly lie when they ask her who she will visit anyway, but yes she has to prove ties and I'm sure they know that since it's that embassy-
Right, of course I know she has to prove ties. She's coming to spend holidays with us. And since I plan on letting the embassy know that I'm footing all the expenses, I thought it'll help include financial documents to back it up. Adding taxe forms, proof of employment, affidavit of support, ect.
-
It can't hurt so I would do it. Especially with the embassy you are going though!
thanks!

I'm an American citizen planing on inviting my sister-in-law for holidays. Question is............
Will it be of any benefit to include a copy of our marriage certificate ( her sister and myself ) among the financial documents we'll send to the consulate? I plan on taking care of all her expenses.

I understand that your in laws are in Ghana but they must still sign the form. You have 30 days from beginning the form to complete it. If it is not completed in 30 days then you must complete a new one. Do they live in a village where there is absolutely no internet? Or is there an internet cafe within a manageable distance from where they are? Someone can assist them in signing the form. That is permitted.
sounds good. I know what to do now.
-
The applicant must sign the form. You can not circumvent the law. This is the information from the link the previous post. If you sign this form yourself you will be misrepresenting yourself and your in-laws.
If an applicant is illiterate or unable to complete the application, the applicant must be assisted by a third party. The third party must be identified on the “Sign and Submit” page of the application. While the third party can assist the applicant in completing the application, he or she must instruct the applicant on how to endorse the application on his or her own behalf by clicking the “Sign Application” button.
My solution would be to have someone with a laptop of perhaps an internet capable phone instruct them on how to sign the DS-160.
ok. in-laws are in Africa, and no easy access to internet. I'm in the USA. Can the DS-160 be started and finished later? that way I can at least complete the application up to where they have to sign it. then call them to log in to to the account and ( with some assistant from one else) sign the application?
-
Ditto the applicant must e-sign the DS-160.
What do they need to E-sign? just pring thier names, right?
if that's the case, I guess I can just do it all for them. right?
I know all their information etc.

My in-laws are old and cannot fill out the DS 160 visa application forms online by themselves. I'm the USA. Question is.......
Can I fill out the DS 160 forms ( tourist visa application ) online and just print the confirmation page and mail it them so they can take that to the interview?? thanks for your help.
-
You can do that but has no bearing for their case.
What your in-laws need to provide are their own merits like: employment letter showing stable income, land/car/house title under their name, house lease/rent agreement under their name, bank statements showing money savings.
Things that bind them to their home country. Things that they will RETURN TO.
Premise is all persons applying for tourist visa has immigrant intent. They have to show the consul that they don't have that.
can I schedule one interview date for both mother and father in laws? or is it one interview date per each side?
-
Affidavit of Support forms are not required for tourist visa applications.
Your in-laws will be approved or denied based on their own merits and strong ties to their country.
There's nothing you can do.
what about invitation letters?
-
I plan on inviting my parents-in-law for a vist. I'm a us citizen
which affidavit of support form to do I need. I-864 or I -134?
-
One more thing: you want them to come for a visit, right?
Not to immigrate to the US?
Since you opened this thread in a section about bringing family members to the US.
ahh sorry ths is the wrong forum. yes they're coming for a visit not to immigrate

I'm planning to invite my in-laws for about 6months visit.
1. Can I send them just one invitation letter, afidavit of support, ect. for both of them or I need to separate them?
2. Can I book one interview date for both of them or it needs to be separate interview dates for each one?
3. What pitfalls do I need to avoid with this process?
thanks folks for all your help.

does anyone know if the card number stays the same?
-
When you remove conditions on your card after 2yrs, does your permanent card have the same Alien number and Card number as the 2yr card???
I ask because I can't find my permanent residency card but I do have the 2yr residence card which has expired already. Is the Alien number on the 2yr card same as that on the permanent card? I need this number for some work applications forms I'm working on?? help please?
I need the A# and the Card #. I'm not sure where the card number is found. Will that be the same as the A#. help please.

As soon as she has her green card or advance parole document, she can travel without problems.
By residency requirements I meant that she will not be allowed to leave for extended trips of over 1 year without requesting a special re-entry permit from USCIS. She also must not have been out of the US for 18 months or more (cumulative, not consecutive) during those 3 years or the "clock" will start over.
Thanks much!
-
3 years after the original green card. She has to maintain residency requirements and file her taxes every year.
You can look at the eligibility worksheet on the N-400 application form online to get informed.
When you say she has to maintain residency requirements, what you mean? can she travel outside USA during that residency requirement period?

We've gone through the K1 visa process. We just received a letter that my wife's Green Card will be coming within the next 60 days. How long must she wait before she can apply to become a USA Citizen? thanks!
Ghana Passport Change of Name
in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Posted
My wife is trying to change her name in her passport to match the name on her Green Card.
I sent the forms yesterday and they received it today but I later realized that I did not notarize the "witness" part of the form
My questions are.
Do I have to notarize the form and the pictures?
Can I quickly refill another application form, notarize it and send via fedex to them ( they'll get it first thing monday morning) so they'll replace it with the un-notarized form?
That way they won't have to return the entire application back to me.
I'm referring to question number 15 on the passport application form.
Thanks for your help.
