  1. That just gives you more time to spend with the Pudge.

And more time to myself and no idea what to do with myself, I'm bored to death. I even put things like calling animal control off (found a half-decomposed dog right at the entrance of the park in my neighborhood :crying: )apparently nobody thinks of calling them, well, I get myself together and call in.

  2. Hey Cheeto... I tried the puff pastry on friday and it was so delicious. I stuffed it with shredded rotisserie chicken, caramelized onion, mashed potatoes, cilantro, pepper & salt. My husband loved it!

    that sounds yummy!

you can also make your own dessert with that stuff...recipes later

hey nagi, it's going, still no word from the job, supposedly they wanted to do an orientation thing soon. well, if I don't hear anything from them next week then I don't start work. Somehow I have the feeling that they have no clue what they're doing...

  3. Hola commies :star:

Well, me, Luis, Anna & the boys survived my first week back at work  It was hard, I'm not gonna lie... but every day it gets a little easier.

They offered overtime today for the only time this month so I took it. We really need to catch up with our bills now that I'm back at work.

How are all my commies doing?? :star:

    way to go suz!

I just tried to figure out how we're going to do it with a kid, but since we're probably moving by the end of this summer it really doesn't matter. I would have to give up my job and I don't really see it when I have to work to pay for daycare, then I really rather stay at home.

I'm proud of you, Suz, and Luis and the boys and Anna!

  4. Sorry I missed you, Cheeto. I didn't mean to interrupt our favourite Ethanol Blend Reseracher, especially when she's performing her duties as a member of the Order of St. Vitus.

    ha ha ha!

    that was way kewl!

Amby, how can you lose something like a cadbury caramel? those things are precious! shame on you!

  5. chrito - phyllo isn't anything like puff! phyllo has no butter in the actual pastry, it's just flour and water. puff is full of butter!

ahh, all I saw in Germany was the phyllo that already had the stuff for the different pastries in there, all you had to do was put it in the oven

  6. Thanks for the tip. Although puff pastry fascinates me, I am a puff pastry noob. What brand do you usually buy? I did a quick google search and I found that pepperidge farms make them. Also, if phyllo sheets found in the freezer section different from puff pastry dough?

the only puff pastry I can get here is the pepperidge farm one, it's really good.

Phyllo is different, never baked with that stuff. puff pastry is practically made the same way, but I think phyllo has some stuff (spices, vinegar?) in it. It's normally used in Greece, Turkey etc. Puff pastry is used in France and German speaking countries.

  7. I love puff pastry, you can do so much with it.

Having a friend popping in in the afternoon and you want something sweet: just pour sugar on the place where you roll the puff pastry, lay the dough on top, roll, turn the dough, roll again, cut in stripes and bake

want a cheesy snack: do the same, but not with sugar but shredded swiss cheese, sprinkle with paprika after baking

Tip: Always use parchment paper on a cookie sheet for baking

  8. Hey Cheeto,

I have a question about the creem cheese, bacon puff pastry recipe you posted a couple of days ago. At what temperature do you bake it and for how long?

    350F

    oven has to be preheated!

I just chuck them in and go look after 10-15 min. I'm not really timing my cooking.

I would say, check every 5 minutes, puff pastry doesn't take long to burn.

Do not open the oven while you bake something with puff pastry, the layers could give in ans then you would have just a dough thingy instead of flaky.

for better taste: use normal bacon instead of the precooked stuff: cut bacon in small pieces, heat in non-stick pan until crunchy, but not too brown, put on paper towels in a bowl, drain, use grease to brown the onions, drain them as well

  9. I just ordered room service :)

    how luxurious...

I order, well, I don't know, maybe I should teach Pudge to get the fruit bars out of the freezer...

I'm so bored, I can hear my brain cells exploding because they're thinking to much about their existence instead of actual stuff...

  10. Fantasy: the discworld novels by Terry Pratchett, the Sookie Stackhouse series (true blood), A. Lee Martinez (very funny)

I'm currently reading all the John Irving books I haven't read yet.

  11. I had the same problem with my rescue dog. When I got him he was already 1,5 yrs old, but didn't have real contact to humans (the former owner just chucked the food and water out) and other dogs, no training, didn't know his name. The only good thing: he didn't do his business in the house.

The biting is just a stage, some tricks to make it easier:

Praise her every time she comes to you with a toy and play for a few minutes with her. That way she learns to express boredom.

Change toys, only give her 2 or three different ones, hide the rest and switch them out after a few days.

Buy one of those nice balls or bones you can fill with her favourite treats or a bit of her favourite dogfood. They have to chew on them to get the treats out, worked wonders with mine.

If she has something she's not supposed to have, don't yell at her and hunt her, that is a game for her and she will enjoy it. Instead: be calm, let her come to you and show her a treat, when she drops the thing, let her make sit and give her the treat, at the same time take the no-no away ;) (my dog is now the best sock finder!)

And most important of all: She is still a baby! 10 weeks isn't that old! You have to understand the needs of a puppy, they are really like babies, really. Puppies like routine, they like to know that you will protect them no matter what.

Be careful with puppy classes, make sure your dog has all the shots and they are somehow settled (it can take up to 30 days for a vaccination to kick in!)

Make sure that puppy class isn't all about training and obedience, puppies need to be socialized so the class should have some play-time (don't worry if the playing is rough. the rougher the play the better is the bond between dogs)

I could go on and on, I'm a real dog lover and one dog isn't enough

  12. just throw some sand on the ground and tell yourself it's majorca

pfft, Mallorca, then I would need besides sand: drunk German high school graduates, ugly German so-called celebs, pissy Brits. I could go on and on...
