Does anyone know how I can contact the Jo'burg Embassy? I need to know how long a police report is good for. My lawyer told me a year but everyone else is saying 6 months!
Hi There, I am Siona, Please let me know what the process is for a k1 visa from southafrica american embassy. My boyfriend has filled a k1 in the states.... what is the process for me nuw ?
Thank You
Siona
Welcome to VJ Siona
Your boyfriend would have filed the I-129F petition not the K1. The K1 is the visa that is approved and issued in SA once the petition has been approved by USCIS.
Have you read the guides at the top of the page?
South Africa is no different to other countries as far as the procedure goes.

Quick question -
I have basically everything that we will need for the interview, but I was wondering how we should present these papers and documents. For the petition we used ACCO fasteners, for the interview should we just put everything in a big folder? I'm assuming it shouldn't be fastened so that the interviewer will be able to look through the papers more easily?
Any answers or ideas?
Thanks.
Correct assumption. I used an expandable 13 pocket folder (nothing special about 13 pockets, they had 5, 13, and 27) I put the little tabs in place to label each document. As they ask for the documents, just take out the appropriate one and hand it through the window. No need for any fasteners of any type and, of course, they will assemble it into their file as they choose. Any effort to bind or fasten the documents together will be wasted effort as you will immediately be made to take it apart and give it to them as they choose.
You don't even need this much, really. Putting everything into a manilla folder will work and then just look through the stack as they ask for the information. As long as everything makes it there, you will be OK
The 13 pocket expandable folder has worked wonders for me so far. As and when I get new documents, photos or evidence I just slot it in under the correct label, so by the time I go for my interview next month I will have everything in its place.

Thanks for this Gary and Alla.
My son will also be a K2 to follow after his final year at school. I find there is very little confirmed guides and not nearly enough info anywhere, so I'm taking in every bit of advice possible from VJ
You are correct. There seems to be little direct information about K-2s. The consulate has a nice guide for K-1s and nothing for K-2s which have different needs, depending on age etc. And as I found out, emailing them is not alwasy the answer as they responded to me incorrectly TWICE, fisr not listing a police certificate at all and then saying he didn't need one from Russia. If he was under 16 this would be true and apparentely they didn't read that part of my letter.
There was also a requirement I write an "acceptance letter" for him, "accepting him" into the USA (I did not do this for his younger brother who was issued a K-2 at the same time as my wife). I also completed a form DS-157 for him which is NOT included in their list of documents for a K-2 and NOT told to me on the telephone, I happened to learn this while listening to the consulate's message while "on hold". Bottom line, I learned a lot in my phone call and avoided a lot of problems.
Their message says a DS-157 is required of ALL male visa applicants over age 16. So...use all the resources you can. Now I will not be surprised if they say he doesn't need the DS-157, but at least it is done.
Interesting point you've made there about the "acceptance letter", something I have not seen anywhere else. I guess all Consulates are different in what they require, but Im a firm believer in having as much as possible whether it's needed or not, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Most people now seem to use the VJ 'Igors List'
You can select if you want the VJ list to display by date sent OR by NOA1 date, just click on the 'Sort By' drop-down menu.
352 on Igor's List does look more promising than 422 on the VJ list, but either way, they are both just guidelines.
Good luck with your journey

hi everyone,
I am december 2008 filers too, got notice of action 2 last april 17, now waiting if when i will received a packet from US embassy.
I have questions.
What documents that NVC sent to US Embassy Manila? Is it include there our emails, photos, divorce paper, birth certificate, I-129F, G-325A that we sent to Vermont? anything else?
Does NVC check petitioner's background? Does NVC check petitioner's background if he is really single or divorced if how many times divorced or what? anything else?
And who check for beneficiary background?
Thank you.
Welcome to the December group kilipit and congratulations on getting your NOA2
Everything that you submitted to VSC goes through NVC to your Embassy
Please fill in your time line! You can do this by going to My Assistant at the top of the page.
