  1. If you use one of the following, you can avoid London entirely, connection-point parenthesised:
    • Etihad (Dubai)
    • Qatar Airways (Doha)
    • Olympic Airways (Athens)
    • Turkish (Istanbul)
    • Air France (Paris)
    • Emirates (Dubai)
    • KLM (Amsterdam)
    • South African Airways connecting to United (Frankfurt)

(edit: I used Johannesburg to JFK)

Thanks CherryXS. I've found an airticket on Virgin Atlantic flying from SA via London to Boston for between $200 - $400 cheaper than any other airline. And even if I have to get a transit visa for UK, it will still work out cheaper to fly this route.

  2. Greetings from South Africa :star:

Can anyone tell me what A valid U.S. immigrant visa packet (form 155A/155B) is. Is it perhaps that elusive brown envelope you get from the embassy/consulate when your passport is returned?

Im starting to look at flight options, and flying from SA via the UK is the cheapest option. South African passport holders do however need a visa to enter or transit the UK.

I have found this info on the UK Visa site, but need to confirm what this "valid U.S. immigrant visa packet (form 155A/155B)" is, before I make a crucial mistake of not applying for a transit visa.

Passengers exempt from the DATV requirement

Holders of certain documents are, regardless of nationality, exempt from the requirement to hold a Direct Airside Transit Visa when transiting the UK.

A transit passenger is not required to hold a transit visa if he holds or a person with whom he arrives in the United Kingdom holds on his behalf:

    A valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from another country or territory to the country in respect of which the visa is held;

A valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from the country in respect of which the visa is held to another country or territory

A valid U.S. immigrant visa packet (form 155A/155B) is a valid visa for DATV exemption purposes.

  3. To all of you still waiting on your Noa2's, I really hope you get them soon. I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating that must be for you and you all seem so sane about the whole thing. I would be ripping out my hair :/ Hang in there guys. You can do this. You are almost there.

For everyone gearing up for your interviews, are you freaking out yet? I know my fiance's interview is on the 16th but up until last night I thought the 16th was Weds lol. When I realized we had one less day left, I went into panic mode. Up until then I was mostly trying to ignore it because it's too damn freaky to know that our entire futures are riding on that single day (or at least the start of it). It's overwhelming. Why does this feel so much like getting ready to finally give birth? :bonk: Who's water will break first?!? Lucky, lucky person.

Now it's almost here and I am so ready for it to be done with. How far are you guys in preparing? Is there anything left to do? Is anyone having their interview before us? I can't wait to hear some stories here!

Hey Xaenyth, so nice to see you again.

My interview is 22 June, so I've started counting days. I've been ready for a while now. Im slowly starting to get anxious while my fiance is as cool as a cucumber, but maybe it's a good thing... no use us both freaking out.

Haha, I like your comparison of getting ready to finally give birth, I think you're spot on there.

Best of luck with your fiance's interview on TUESDAY ;) Celebrate well, then report back on how it went.

  4. Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the replies. They are not making it easy for us are they, hehe. I see that most of you is near the end of the process. In a way this website makes my wife and I feel a bit beter because it shows that we are not alone, there is thousands of married couples out there waiting just like us to be reunited. Our son is in good health, changing him to new milk but its making him sick.

    BL2B - See you know afrikaans...Dankie

PS...Do we have to complete a I-129F and send it?? We sended the I-130 and the G-325 as per the filling procedure.

Born and bred 'boertjie' here ;)

So glad to hear your son is in good health now.

VJ sure makes a difference knowing you're not alone in the process. Lets hope yours is a speedy one so that you, your wife and son can finally be together.

  5. Hi Afrilion,

    Congratulations on getting your NOA2.

Ours also said "the above petition has been approved and fowarded to the listed consulate" no worries there, you're not missing anything, they all go through NVC.

Best of luck with the rest of your journey :star:

Thanks BL2B. what does the NVC process look like?

payxibka has pretty much covered all your answers there. You will receive a notice in the mail from NVC stating that the file has been sent to the consulate.
