  2. With no potential benefit to an investigation, one must ask: don't the police have anything better to do?

Since the murders are still "unsolved" it is considered an active investigation. It may prove or disprove that it is the murder weapon and if it is the weapon, may tell us who the actual murderer is. If it is OJ, it will allow the police to close the case, but not dispense judgement for the crime.

    -edited for crimes of grammar

  3. Excuse me if this has already been asked and answered before but brain is fried and too tired to execute search-fu. Anyway...

My wife arrived on a K-1 over 6 years ago and we are finally looking at naturalization and after looking at the form I had a question. Which would require less paperwork: filing based on Marriage or based on 5 years residency?

    Thanks in advanced

    Dave

  4. I have a family friend who is in the process of adjusting status from a work visa. His American wife does not work and is estranged from her so they require a cosponsor. They have asked me to cosponsor which is not a problem as he is hard working and is in good health, but I have an I-864 already on file for my wife and step-daughter and I am not sure the impact will be cosponsoring him on my immediate family.

    Constructive suggestions only

  5. the Article points to this study, which in turn points to FBI stats. The FBI stats show that 0.8% of violent crimes were responded to with a firearm

    http://www.vpc.org/studies/justifiable15.pdf

ESTIMATES ON SELF-DEFENSE USE OF FIREARMS FROM THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE STATISTICS NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMIZATION SURVEY Hemenway notes, and numerous others agree, that the most accurate survey of self-defense gun use is the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The survey has been ongoing since 1973.10 VIOLENT CRIME According to the NCVS, looking at the total number of self-protective behaviors undertaken by victims of both attempted and completed violent crime for the fiveyear period 2007 through 2011, in only 0.8 percent of these instances had the intended victim in resistance to a criminal “threatened or attacked with a firearm.”11 As detailed in the chart on the next page, for the five-year period 2007 through 2011, the NCVS estimates that there were 29,618,300 victims of attempted or completed violent crime. During this same five-year period, only 235,700 of the self-protective behaviors involved a firearm. Of this number, it is not known what type of firearm was used or whether it was fired or not. The number may also include off-duty law enforcement officers who use their firearms in self-defense.

The problem with that statement is that it is only in "reported" incidences. We do not know how many incidents are not reported because the assailant was detered and the intended victim did not report it for one reason or another. Not including this information in making an argument against gun ownership is equivalent to a 1 sided coin.

  6. Officers should be in pairs just in case they need backup. She left behind a beautiful family. I feel sorry for their loss.

She was not alone, but with her task group as the suspect was known to be a violent criminal and in possession of multiple firearms.

Definately a sad day here for her family and the Omaha community. First officer killed in the line of duty in over 10 years.

  7. I'm agreeing with the "in country" deal. It'll create a hassle-free trip haha. But what about the name change when it comes to flight tickets and hotel bookings? And what documents are necessary for us to bring when we travel by air in country?

I would book her flight with the name in her passport, as it's still an official document. The country of the passport won't matter to the ticket agent or TSA as they are not Customs Agents. It is used only as a form of identification, not authorization for domestic travel.

  8. You are asking me these questions as if I wrote this article. I have no idea what their concerns are or were. We can thank the non-reporting reporters of the 21st century for this. However, we do know media outlets, most of the percentage of time, have an ulterior motive behind reporting.

But if indeed this is true, then the mayor does not need them. She needs real officers.

I agree that the media today is all about getting the readers and not about presenting the facts. It seems these days that all the media outlets are taking lessons from "The National Inquirer" or "The Sun"

Janelle isn't making this about race. The article is.

Your questions are all valid, but in all honesty, if the people who quit did so under those pretenses, they should have published them. Safety concerns is a broad term and without anything else to go on, it could just be a douche move for other reasons, but a douche move nonetheless.

I apologize. I didn't mean to imply that Janelle was making this about race. I was just trying to comment on the flavor of the article.

And if their true reasons were because of the color of her skin, then I agree that they are truly better off without them.

  9. Police, Officials Resign After Small Missouri Town Elects First Black Female Mayor

The Huffington Post | By Kelly Chen

Most of the police force and several officials resigned after the small town of Parma, Missouri elected its first African American woman as mayor, reported KFVS.

Tyrus Byrd, a former city clerk, was officially sworn in as mayor on Tuesday after beating incumbent Randall Ramsey. Ramsey had served as mayor of Parma for 37 years under two terms.

The outgoing mayor said five of the city's six police officers submitted their resignation, citing "safety concerns." Parma's city attorney, clerk and water treatment supervisor also quit.

Some Parma residents say they aren't worried about safety now that the police force has shrunk. "I think it's pretty dirty they all quit without giving her a chance," resident Martha Miller told KFVS. "But I don't think they hurt the town any by quitting, because who needs six police for 740 people."

At her swearing in ceremony, Byrd said that she is looking to getting things in order for the city.

    watch video http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/19/parma-police-resign-black-female-mayor_n_7097110.html

Add good bye. Now she can find better cops who want to do their job.

Excuse me Janelle, but I find this article a little light on substance, but heavy on innuendo. I'm not saying that the officer's motive wasn't race, but I would like to know more about what their "safety concerns" were.

I mean was she planning on disarming the officers? Reducing their budget? Maybe even cancelling an order on protective gear? I just would like to know more before raising the race card.

  10. Hello all, I am new here but I have read a number of posts and find the information very helpful. However I can't find the answer to this question.

I am from the USA and my girlfriend I have been with and visited for 2 years lives in Crimea. We are considering a k-1 visa because we have had some problems recently with her coming to often to USA to visit me. They actually told her to withdraw her visa and reapply for her b1/b2 but I think it may be better to just apply for a k-1 visa. My question is with her living in Crimea will she be eligible for "Expedited Criteria" located here since Russia has sent military to Crimea and the travel.state.gov warns about traveling to this area because it is unsafe as it is "unlawfully occupied by Russia" I think USA still sees Crimea as part of Ukraine

I honestly just want her to be here as soon as she can. If we apply for this k-1 what is the current timeframe for Ukrainians or Crimeans? Can we use the Expedited service? Thank you in advance!!

There are a few problems you will experience with both re-newing her B1 and applying for the K1 and that is because she resides in the Crimea.

Since the US does not recognize the annexation of the Crimea by Russia, it is still considered to be Ukraine. The chances of an expidition is pretty slim.

Also she will need to travel to Kiev for her interview, which is not possible directly from the Crimea and will require her to get through a more round-about method. Which I am hearing is also an issue as Russia is requiring a permit to exit the region (I may be wrong about this). But even if she is able to get to Kiev, it will show that she is able to reach a safe area and therefor an expidite would not be granted.

You will need to show that her safety is at risk to satisfy the requirements for an expidition. The warning for US Citizens is because the Anti-West rhetoric that Russia has been spewing has caused it not to be a safe area for Westerners.

    Good luck in your future

  11. Roz,

As my suggest is seek for the lawyer that u gv you or you just remain married for another 7 months. not too long. Think about it it's suffer awhile better than suffer forever ... IF you no longer married to a citizen you may not able to adjust status I suppose. Then unless your current company would sponsor you for work visa to stay back. If I'm not mistaken. Hopefully it works ! All the best. Hang on there.

    JNC,

Just an FYI, you can Adjust Status if you are no longer married to the USC, but you have to do as soon as you have the divorce decree in your hands, and still must show proof that the marriage was in good faith.

Most times if an LPR is trying to adjust while going through a divorce, USCIS will place the adjustment on hold until the divorce is granted. This is to ensure that the Immigrant gets a fare shake in the adjustment process instead of risking being ruined by the testimony of a spiteful spouse.

  12. I am sorry Teddy B, but you have no idea what you talking about. A marriage is over only when the divorce is finalized by court, NOT when you or your spouse or Teddy B thinks its over. OP is still married with this wife, doesnt matter if his wife cheated on him or they dont love each other anymore or anything else. So OP can remove the conditions on his greencard provided the law alows him to do so.

Start from correcting yourself. I agree there are so much incorrect info. Thats why I asked him to ignore everyone and ask the attorneys.

I am sorry Hari but you are incorrect here also. There are two dates that a marriage is over. The first is when one or both partners realize that it is done and the second is when the court recognizes it. Though for all legal purposes the latter is the one that the legal system cares about.

Also he is better off getting the divorce first then adjusting, not the other way around.

    To the OP

I do not think it's in your best interest to be sharing the same residence (or any area of space) with your soon-to-be ex. Depending on how vindictive you wife is, she could falsify an assault charge against you just to prevent you getting your 10 yr card, and therefore getting you flagged for deportation.

  13. yes never met but before they got married, we emailed, chat on YM and even did some facetime together with him too and was ok until they got married more less chat etc. If she thinks something going on between me and her husband, well her loss then, after got to know me online and in all sudden gave a cold treatment.

BBM is just like a YM, you added someone to chat

    Thanks for the opinion tho

I know this might seem a silly thing to say, but why not ask her if there is a problem between the two of you? Maybe just a 1-on-1 facetime to clear the air. As as been speculated that the issue may not be you directly, but how her husband (and his family) view you.

I know I would feel put out if my wife and her family were constantly talking about a male friend all the time and sharing everything of our lives with him.

  14. Dear guys, i would like to know about Paypal. Does anyone know, if i receive a money transfer from outside of USA, will a person who makes a transfer will get fees? and do they will automatically making transfer convert into $ currency?

And let see, they're gonna transfer $100 so will i receive full $100 or Paypal will cut another fee so i will just receive less than $100?

    Thank you in advance

Shimura, it all depends on how the transfer is accomplished. If its via a Credit Card then there will be a fee involved but if it is from a bank account then there won't be.

  15. Though Oksana and Valeriia have been here for over 4 years, we are still worried as Oksana's Mother and Sister live only an hour away from Mariupal. We're not too worried about her sister as her husband is a Turkish citizen so they have a bolt hole there, but in the long term we are looking at options to get her Mother here permanently or at least until the tensions die down.

This entire stupidity is hitting us too close to home as Valeriia learned that a friend of her's was killed last week in Donetsk when he went to the market, so this has definately cranked the tension high at home.

Our thoughts are definately with everyone affected by these events. Hopefully sanity will get a foothold soon.

  16. and the Ukraine people and its government are so angry about the Russian invasion that they have done NOTHING.. The Ukraine army has not made any attempt to defend its country..

I would like Obama to give one Billion Dollars to the American people instead of giving it to Ukraine..

The reason Ukraine has not done anything yet is because the Russian Military would crush the Ukrainian Military like a bug thus leaving Ukraine ripe for complete conquest. It is in Ukraine's interest not to start a shooting war and hope a diplomatic solution is found or it gains military support from the West.

Ukraine forces are deployed along the Russian border and if Putin follows through on his threat to invade Eastern Ukraine it will become a shooting war with Russia as the aggressor. This will force NATO to act or lose the support of some of its newest members that were former Soviet satellites. And if Russia does invade it will still crush the Ukrainian forces but it will take longer and bring a higher cost of life to Putins forces.
