God, can we get him deported? It's attitudes and behaviours like this that give entire nations a bad reputation. He's going to need to get over his entitled, elitist attitude PDQ if he thinks he's going to get anywhere with it in the US. For his own sanity and for the sake of the entire British population.
Having said all that, there's plenty of people who are going to be terrified he's Harry Potter's distant cousin, of the Slytherin persuasion, and comply with his foot-stomping for fear of having Crucio cast upon them...

Good Morning, I came back to read the rest of the posts, This is my favorite. Are you trying to convince him? or yourself?
Thongguy is making a good faith effort to give good advice and he was doing ok until he superimposed his life on yours.
He was apparently estranged from his brother against his will.
He was longing for that relationship. His new wife is helping to him to have that relationship, ,,,,,,,,,,,,, good
the difference is , you are not longing for a relationship with your sister
you would like to get as far away as possible
Your boyfriend is pushing you to do what you dont want to do ............................. not good
If she is really in favor of your marriage she should be thrilled to be godmother to your (and Julian's) kid.
Obviously if she hates the guy she is not in favor of your wedding. She appears to be willing to go along
for your sake. she thinks you are making a mistake.
You could say you had no idea that your sister wanted to be in the wedding party but since she has a
change of heart you have to go with that because it would be an opportunity to rebuild your relationship
    with her.
you know you dont want your sister in the wedding party at all. your mother knows it, your sister knows it
your boyfriend knows it. Jen knows it. So who exactly would you be kidding? If your sister cared for
anyone but herself she wouldnt dream of asking you to snub your best friend who has been lined up
    to do this for months.
Im not sure what rebuilding is supposed to take place.
you dont like her and dont want to be around her because of the way she treats you,

Let Julian marry Rachel, You be a brides maid. I only read the first page of this but it sounds like there are too many unresolved issues.
If one friend hates julian enough to drop out of the wedding, And Julian hates the other friend enough to take your families side against
    you. Hello big red flag.
Part of the trouble with big weddings is they take on a life of their own, You obviously are not in control.
It appears you are going to have to choose between Julian and your friends. That really should have been done before all this wedding
stuff was set up. If you follow the momentum of the wedding now, it is the equivilent of being steamrolled.

I am not full of the best advice, but I do understand the cold feet. Man I was going to get married to my husband in Australia and I totally hyperventilated 3 days before the wedding. I didn't know if I could go through with it. I was scared. I was questioning if I really knew him well enough even though we had been talking for freaking 4 years. I don't know why I was so freaked out. It wasn't like I couldn't get divorced if it was a mistake right? He literally had to hold me while I was shaking in fear and that scared him too! He was like...man is this chick seriously going to bag out on me now?
I guess my point is... marriage is a pretty big step. It's a huge decision that suddenly floods over you in that moment that realization hits you like a brick. I did go through with the marriage and this morning while we were drinking coffee and eating eggs, I read your post and looked at him and smiled.
We have been married now for 4 years. I knew I wanted to marry him the whole time... I don't know what came over me in those last minutes before tying the knot. The fact that he is suddenly realizing that he is loosing his freedom to be a single man may be a HUGE factor to him.
I think you should come and be with him... I needed my husband to hold me and calm me down. Maybe he needs that from you too. Either way, you can always go back home if things don't work out. I hope my story helps you.

The words "cold feet" usually go along with marriage commitment and grooms. If you can afford it, get on the plane and go see what happens in real life.
    I'm sending prayers.

I know there are some people that flaunt their own stupidity, dependence, and helplessness. But I don't think not having a mobile phone is really a good indicator of that. Of course it depends on why you chose not to have the phone. But not having a mobile phone can actually be a sign of independence and the ability to take care of yourself. You don't need to be plugged in or be able to call someone all the time. You can fix your own problems. Of course, if they don't want to figure out how it works, that's a little different. But most people who don't have mobile phones make a choice to not be available to others at a moment's notice and to be able to solve problems for themselves.

    Hey Chris -
after reading yer big post from 2007 -
it seems that she was a spoiled child then, and has gone through some life changing experiences that were detrimental to her
    and
now she is full of regret for not choosing you.
IMO - this 'path' that she took -
    if
it 'helped her to flush her childishness'
    then
SURE ! If you think it's worthwhile to pursue her, then by all means pursue her.
    Otherwise,
if she's full of the same cr@p as before -
it'll be 15 times worse once she's in the USA, and cost (you) 10 times as much (in USA, vs in China).
    Good Luck, whatever you decide.

Hi, Shaunsgal (whenver you're next on).
MrsPalmer, I feel you. My preference is to be married for at least a year before having a child. I would also rather wait until we move from an apartment to a house, as I think that would be easier to do before having a baby. My husband, though, has no such desire to wait. He's wanted to get started on our 8 (make that 2) children since before "I do."
Thanks to Justucia for the suggestion of donating extra items to a women's shelter. I found one not too far away & dropped off my first (of many) donations today!

These items, valued at over $100, cost me less than $15 by "stacking" sales & coupons. The receptionist & I even had a conversation about "couponing" when she asked why I was donating.

justucia reacted to sachinky in Unskilled workers don't have a path to permanent residency
I guess, my question is, WHY *should* unskilled workers have a legal path to residency or citizenship? Why? 'Cause they just love America? I really like French wine, bread, cheese and have a thing in general for French men. Do you think I can just pack up my bags and move to France tomorrow *just 'cause I want to?* They are not skilled workers or PhD holders who will contribute to society in meaningful ways with their particular set of learned skills. Unless, they are USC family members, why should they be entitled to US residency/citizenship?
As someone pointed out earlier, the point of employment based immigration is to bring people who have skills that the US doesn't have or generally lacks -- so why bring in workers who have no skills at all? The guest-worker programs is enough to meet whatever need exists.
There is no dearth of unskilled workers in the U.S. who are currently unemployed. Why bring in more?
I don't see India importing unskilled, poor people, do you?
This is just effin' nonsense. Really. So they have no legal route to US residency/citizenship. BFD, really. So now I am supposed to sympathise with them when they jump the border and break the law?

Why don't you just man up and admit the truth. You hate Muslims because you believe that they are all terrorists, you don't know anything about the religion but you have all the answers. You are the most puerile and twisted answer to a question that no one asked. You use the term "god" in lowercase because they are not like us, since the good, white Christian GOD would never be used to incite violence or hatred. Their "god" can't be our GOD. That's what you believe; stand up for once in your life. If that's what you believe, that's what you believe. The Third Reich was the putative heir to the Holy Roman Empire so that must mean that all Christians are violent murderers, using your logic. You deal in smatterings of half-truths or outright mendacities that is your currency in trade. Engaging in sweeping and misleading generalizations, oblivious to the facts, does little more than inflame passions and foment hatred and ignorance. You always speak from a postion of ignorance, and try to use bluster and bloviation to hide the fact that you don't know what you are talking about. Puerto Ricans speak Spanish, so they can't be Americans. Excuse me if I'm less than enthused by your opinions on sensitivity, I don't listen to Texans who have mastered the art of rectal discourse.

Wait I think this is looked at the wrong way. If I had a 6 year old girl, who went to school with a hijab and asked her teacher if she could take it off...Mrs. so and so is it ok if I take my scarf off." and my response would be "Sure honey" without any malice intended. It is not the teachers job to enforce parents home rules. How would the teacher even know? She probably has 20 other 6 year olds running around to worry about let alone to pre-occupy herself with worrying about one little girl who happens to wear something on her head. The teacher is not "making the girl disobey her father" the child asked her teacher if she could remove it, the teacher said yes. If she says no then there would be parents all up in her face for imposing religious practices in school. She's sort of stuck either way.

There should be more debate and understanding about what the word 'modesty' really means. One can be and behave modestly in a bikini, one can be and behave wantonly wearing a full veil.
A woman should not be at risk for sexual predation due to what she is wearing, nor by how she is behaving and there should be no religious leaders promoting anything that contradicts that.

Good Morning Yardies…I hoped everyone had a great Easter Weekend. I sure did. Took hubby to see the Cherry Blossoms on Saturday and then we went to see Why did I get Married. We went to church on Sunday and then just relax.
    Funny Story:
One of my co-workers came in this morning and told us she has a friend who lives in Oregon and her friend has a slightly retarded son who is 12. Well her friend went to work and left the child home alone and around 11am the boy called his mom and told her to come home because he caught a troll. She told him to put the troll in a cage until she got home and she will see it. The friend figured it was a squirrel or something. Well the friend got home after work and saw all her furniture move and was blocking the closet door. She asked him why all the stuff was there and he told her the troll is in the closet. She moved the stuff and opened the door and a Midget man ran out the door. He came by to hand out religious pamphlets and the little boy thought he was a troll…..Damn im still laughing

I am so STRESSED today . Just everything is getting on my nerves. To make matters worse we got a letter from Immigration stating that we have an Interview! Like why out of all the millions of applications do we have to have an interview? I know thats the normal process but why couldn't we be one of the select few who doesn't have to have one! Hell I live closest to the CSC anyway. I hate having to question if I know everything there is to know about my Husband. I had enough of that at the K-1 interview. And what are they going to be asking? Mannnnnnnnnnnn...................
    OKAY.................
I'm done ranting. I'm going to pull my big girl panties up and prepare for the interview. It's May 4th

That's pointless. Threads meander, as they are real conversations happening in real time. They may start political, then get hijacked into something else, then wander back again. Non-political threads may also do the same.
Besides, there is already a very simple built-in method to deal with this "problem". See a thread that doesn't interest you? Don't read it. Done.
