  1. If the children aren't living with him then I am not sure about him including them or not. I am assuming he is paying child support then? Perhaps someone else who has been in this situation would be better able to advise you about whether children not in the household but for whom they are financially liable are included in determining household size for Affidavit of Support requirement.

Well i was confused about it too! That's what created this whole commotion! In my mind, household was the physical house, but in fact, it includes all dependents....why don't they just write "all dependents"??? AAARG!!!

oh well....we have to do what we have to do now......

  2. and I just read my fiancé's bank statement and the total amount of deposits seems a little low for our family situation.

Had to chime in here ... the bank statements do not matter it is the gross pay (before taxes) that matters.... thats why the tax transcripts and the w-2's are used. unless i read you wrong ... but for us the bank statements were not even used or considered if the petitioners gross pay is more than 125% of the poverty limit you should be ok

That's great to know! Unfortunately, we still need a co-sponsor. I didn't realize that children not living with him were considered in the term "household"....silly me!

So hopefully I'll have everything in hand Wednesday or Thursday since my interview is Friday....God help me!

Thanks for your replies and information.

  3. Thank you all for your info! Looks like we'll need a co-sponsor....we have 4 days to come up with all the documents....STRESS!!!!!!!!

I'm surprised that we can use our (beneficiary) assets. Though it was only the USC. Good to know!

  4. Hello all,

I need help to find the required income the US partner needs in a K1 application....my interview is next Friday, and I just read my fiancé's bank statement and the total amount of deposits seems a little low for our family situation. I'm afraid we'll need a co-sponsor and time really is running out. I tried looking for the information but all I could find is the Federal poverty guidelines....is that what USCIS uses?

    Thanks for your help!

  5. so my fiance and i got our NOA2 for our k1 petition.

i'm wondering what to do next, i know i have to wait for them to send me a package.

i've heard of people calling NVC then calling the embassy to make an appointment.

should i be doing this too or is it a bunch of work for nothing? or do i just wait patiently for my package from Montreal?

i understand this package will have my medical letter which is needed to make a medical appointment , is this correct?

thank you for your input, i've been reading up on this but the approval came faster than expected

Hello and congrats for your approval.

You are right, you basically have to wait for your package. Some people, like myself, couldn't deal with "just waiting" and called NVC to know when they received the package and when did they send it to the appropriate embassy or consulate. From experience, I think calling is a good idea cause they do make mistakes (as they did with our file) and some could get lost in the mail. The number is 603-334-0700.

When Montreal will receive your file, they'll send the packet 3. you then have to call DOS to know about your appointment:202-663-1225 and not montreal directly.

As for the medical I think your have to wait for Montreal to have your file so you can give your MTL file number to the Dr's office.

Hope that helps a little and good luck!

  6. I had my interview yesterday and the visa was approved!! I really don’t have anything to add about the interview itself as my experience was similar to everyone else’s. It was very simple, they didn’t ask many questions at all: how did we meet? what does my fiancé do for a living? have I ever been arrested? and I was asked about the time I was denied entry at the border (lack of ties to Canada); and they didn’t want any of my evidence of an ongoing relationship (other then my updated letter of intent from my fiancé). All of the people I dealt with were friendly, and the view of Montreal from up there was fantastic.

I do have some bus info for anybody who is flying into Montreal. The airport shuttle bus to downtown costs $16, but you can take the regular city bus for $2.75 (have exact change). The bus stop is right outside the terminal near where you get the tickets for the shuttle bus. Take bus #204 which will stop at a bus terminal not far away, then switch to bus #211. This one will stop right outside the XX metro station where you can then use the same ticket from the bus (it’s valid for 2 hours for connections) to get on the metro to your final destination. It’s not a lot of money to save, but if you’re taking the shuttle/metro anyhow it might be worth while.

It’s such a relief to finally be finished. Good luck to those still waiting, like other people have commented, this really was the easiest part of the process so far.

    That's great news! Congrats!

  7. My Fiance got his visa today :) YEAH!!! The move for next week is a go, I can't wait!!

Wow...that's awesome!!! hope the POE goes smoothly!

My Fiance got his visa today :) YEAH!!! The move for next week is a go, I can't wait!!

So fast! Guess it's good to live right across the "bridge" .

    Can't track my package yet.

we checked it around 1030 AM and it was in Toronto, out for delivery! SWEEET! (we weren't back here in time to get it, so we will have it tomorrow or Monday, whenever TG gets to the Postoffice !!! YAY!1!!

Great news! So I guess your travel plans will work out perfectly...that's great!

  8. Hello to the July-8th-interviewees! LOLOL

I just wanted to suggest a great little place for lunch. It's called "Café L'Étranger" (don't worry, they speak English there!) It's a little walk from the consulate...about 3 blocks or so on Ste. Catherine Street. It's at the corner of University in front of the Archambault store. It's in the basement so you have to look for the sign.

They have amaizing food and very affordable. If you don't feel for that, just walk west on Ste Catherine and you'll find plenty!. If you walk East, you''l be able to enjoy the Jazz fest. Enjoy Montreal!! and hope all your interviews go smoothly!

Can't wait to read your experiences!

  9. Hello all you VJers!

Toronto Guy & I have been enjoying our long visit together, and have been busy dealing with all types of real life. Its funny, now that we don't have an internet-based relationship, I am not on the computer as much in the evening ;-)

Last night we were up til 1230 booking hotels and planning out route... I'm the only driver and it looks like a long road. He has promised to entertain me and Fiona (my 4 y/o)... we're looking at a trip to Atlanta (from Asheville, NC) to get my dad's truck, and then back to Asheville to sleep, and then from Asheville to Montreal - via the Adirondacks ;-) I'm glad that the truck has satellite radio!!

We are arriving in Montreal Monday afternoon/evening/night and will be staying right downtown ($48 a night, found through Kayak.com). Tuesday will be working/touring/finding the consulate and mapping our route, including potty breaks and 4 y/o 6 AM meltdown preparations  Wednesday is the big day (guess the 4 couples will be racing to see who gets there first? :lol) and then we are staying til checkout on Friday - then on to Toronto, where we are staying in N. York at a really nice hotel ($34USD/night THANK YOU Hotwire). Hopefully we'll have the visa by the next week and will be on our way.

Papers are almost together, just need to finish assembling/copying my I-134. We're starting to pack and sweat ;-) Assembling some evidence, just in case my presence is not convincing enough

We can't believe our interview is next week!!!!! But we are so glad to have spent so much time together while waiting, it's been truly amazing and rewarding.

So, refresh the memory - who all has an interview on the 8th?

Best of luck to everyone who has an interview next week!!!

    Wow Kristin...that's a lot of moving around...and with a 4yr old....more power to you!!! :) (I love your daugther's name btw!)

Unreal isn't it? July is finally here and your interview is right around the corner! Mine is at the end of the month, but I'm still getting excited. It's sooo great that you got to wait together! Dex was asking me to do the same thing, but It's just not as easy with 2 babies and no furniture and toys for them...but we'll be there in about 6 weeks so it's ok.

Wish you 3 all the best!

  10. haha

Useless line is exactly what it is. I just wish there was an easy way to find out what address you have with them. It's such a silly thing but now that I think about it, it's making me angry. haha

    Have you tried calling them?

Sorry I can't read today...looks like u did call. i always had a good experience with USCIS so I think I would call just to verify.

  11. haha

  12. She passed the interview and shall return next Tuesday, June 23rd, to pick up the visa. If all goes according to plan, she'll be here by the beginning of July. Over the past two months we've been a bit apprehensive since all petitions were being held up at the Bangkok embassy. I was even a little uncertain as to whether we could keep to our plan to wed at the end of July. I am grateful that things have turned out this way.

It's been 240 days since NOA1 and over 300 days since we've last been together and only 15 more days to wait.

    That's GREAT news!!! :dance::dance::dance:

What a great feeling it must be to see each other after all this time (physically) apart!

    Happy continuation!

    Hi Octobers!

Had my interview in Vancouver yesterday and picked up my visa this afternoon! Congrats to everyone else, too! :-)

That's great!! Very happy for you...I have mine in Montreal the last day of July......patience...patience....lolol

  13. Well I received my packet 4 today (yay!) So now I really feel the urge to put everything together get all my copying done (originals + 2)! I`m going to Albany this weekend so Dex can spend some time with his girls for father's day (hoping they'll let me in of course....) I plan on coming back with the new letter of intent and the affidavit of support. I can't wait to be done with K1 and move on the AOS, AP, EAD, and all the rest that has to be done!

    Thanks! You are a doll.

I just called NVC and they gave me my MTL # and said it has been forwarded on as of today! WOOHOO!

That's great! Hang in there the wait isn't always easy but at least your file's in Montreal now and that's GREAT!!

  14. I was just wondering why you didn't go CR1/IR1 (hope I have the right letter and numbers! lol)? Do you regret it sometimes? Seeing hope long K-1 takes, sometimes I wish we had gone the CR1/IR1 route instead. It just seems easier once you get to the US. I know money was an issue for us then...Also I read somewhere that you cannot visit when you are married whereas with K-1 you can even if it's difficult.

What was your reason? If you had to re-do it, would you go CR1/IR1?

My reason for doing the K-1 was because that's what my now husband's employer said we could do. Anyway...long story.

I couldn't help but notice a few things you mentioned though that are out of whack. One is that the K-1's are slower than the CR1/IR1? Is this true now? It certainly never was. All CR1's I thought went through Montreal? I've never heard that they're faster at all.

And your information that you canot visit when you're married, but you can when you're doing a K-1 is wrong. You can visit, no matter what visa you apply for as long as you can present the proper evidence, if asked, at the border to show your ties to Canada.

Don't know where you got your information from...

Thanks for your reply and info, but I didn't say that K1 was faster than CR1, just that they take almost as much time (out of Montreal). It just that I was encouraged to do K1 cause it was said to be faster, but I wouldn't have mind waiting a few more months and have my GC right away. Although I agree with most people who replied: it would be VERY weird to be married and apart.

That's good to know that people waiting for CR1 are able to travel during the process....makes the wait much easier. I read that info here on VJ where they are comparing all processes to help us choose which one is best for us. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=compare

  16. Hey guys!

Our stuff just got to NVC, hopefully it will be passed through very quickly, so that I can have my P3 by the end of the month *crosses fingers*. I was wondering if any of you lovely people who have received the P3 recently happen to have a copy of the checklist so I can get everything all ready. I have most of the stuff , police checks, birth cert, etc etc but I was wondering about the forms they are asking for now as someone had mentioned they changed. Are they still asking for the DS-156/156k as well as the DS230 and the 160, or are they just asking for the 230 and 160? I have my 230 already filled out so I can send it back immediately, but wasnt sure if they still want the 160 as well. Any help would be much appriciated!

well i think you can find the checklist here on VJ in Wiki I think.

All forms can be found online and they are the lastest versions

As far as sending something to Montreal, it's not possible as you need to send the checklist....so you have to wait for it, unles your packet gets lost in the mail, but that another story! I wouldn't send anything before knowing that my file is out of NVC...I was stuck there for what seemed an eternity! Good luck!

  17. I've been lurking on this thread for a while, as my fiance lives in Canada and will be going to Montreal for her interview. We submitted her Packet 3 at the end of May, so we thought no way we would get an interview until August/September. Well today, on the off chance a miracle might happen, I called DOS to inquire as to the status. I was floored...as we have an interview July 29!!! I'll be outside tonight doing the Happy Dance of Joy.

That's great news!!! I'm happy for you!! How come I'm not on the July 29th wagon??? What's up with that?? Will I be alone on the 31st?????

Other 31st-ers please stand up! LOL

  18. Yay for all of US getting a July interview!!!! That's right i said it US Just called DOS after seeing all these May people with interview and mine is July 31st!!! YAY!!!!

It's gonna be a busy day for me as I'm leaving for Toronto for carnival on that day, but hey! I'm still happy!!!!:dance::dance:

You posted as I was typing the last message, Congratulations on your date!

Congratulations to the next "batch" of Interviews!!! :) YEA!

    EDIT NOTE:

Isn't it AMAZING how much easier life is just KNOWING the date?? Nothing has physically changed... but just mentally knowing you HAVE a date, makes things so much easier.

You are soooo right!! lol I think for me it's just the fact that I can finally plan and start the closure with my loved ones...I never imagined having such conflicting emotions! On the one hand I'm thrilled that i know exactly when I'll finally have my family under one roof, no more travelling back and forth all the time. And on the other hand, I know it's gonna be sooooooo hard to say goodbye to everybody....I'll miss them all soooooo much! Oh well I made my choice and I'm sticking to it! New challenges ahead and I'm ready!!!! :):)
