  1. Hello fellow October filers,

I sware I wish I could take care of everything from here! My guy, isn't the most meticulous person in the world, SOOOO he sent the package WITHOUT MAKING COPIES and did not track the envelope so there's not way for us to track it!!! I'm guessing they got it today as he sent it priority mail. As if this was not enough, he sent a money order so we could see when USCIS cashes the check and start tracking the process, like all you fine people are doing...

AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!! All he says is: "don't worry about it babes, all will go well!" I wish I was calm and collected like he is...but I like to know what's going on you know!

    Ok had to vent! ;)

The biggest mistake here is not making a copy of the petition. lol And hey, that was hard enough to drill in his head. Other than that you guys did it fine. Sometimes it'sbetter to have the blinders on. Know what I mean? One of those cases where the less you know, the better.

Yeah I know his attitude is the good one to have, but I'm just so stressed about this! And I want to be able to control the information that I have a little, instead of just having to wait. But hey! I guess right now I don't have a choice!

  3. I hear the US doesn't like the French--I realize the France French, but do you think we Québecois are lumped in with them? Eh bien!

Silly MCat, it is not just the US that doesn't like the French

I kid, I kid. But in reality, Britons, Germans, etc. historically do not get along with the French.

Oui, it's true: Nobody likes us! However, I am as Anglais as they get, though of course I learned to speak French at the age of three! I wonder if my bilingualism will work in my favour, job-wise, in NY...? Frankly, my partner's job is in a less than ideal location for my career future, so either I'll get lucky and find tele-commutable work, or I'll surrender and start farming. :o

    Sigh,

We are in a similar situation. Hubby's also in upstate NY. Albany to be exact. I'm in Montreal. We visited each other so many times that we lost count. The only time I had a hard time crossing was when I was 7 months pregnant with our 1st. I was travelling by bus the and the border guy thought I was going to stay there to have the baby...my answer was: "but I'm Canadian!" He smiled and let me in, telling to bring evidence of proof of ties in Canada.

Now that K1 is filed, I will definitaly travel with my papers just to put all the chance on our side. Let me know how it went if/when you cross and I'll do the same.

    good luck!

  4. Still waiting for NOA2 from CSC K-1 I-129F within the CSC processing time (2008-02-01):

    3 sengmany & manny 2008-02-03 2008-02-05 2008-06-22

this is who's no 3 on the list...BUT on their personal statement says: On June 30, 2008, I received an email from the USCIS. MyI-129F has approved. I takes four months and 28 days to get the NOA2. Finally!!!!!!! It takes 3 weeks from NOA2 to the US Consulate. Her interview date is Sept. 26, 2008. She will be here on the 3rd of Oct.

So, how many more like this are there on Igor's list ??????/ Guys, please think about the others, who take Igor's list as a useful tool!!

Hey I'm new here so excuse my ignorance...what's Igor's list? Is it the timeline, or something else?

  5. After months of sending papers to and fro, we finally had our packet ready to submit yesterday! Now we can finally feel like we are making some progress towards our goal of being together!

We sent out package in as well on Oct 14. I agree, its good to have to ball 'officially' rolling now.

Tracking it via UPS, should be delivered to VSC today. Now the big wait.

Also sent package on the 14th. So we'll litterally wait together!!

Hope it goes smoothly and quick (a girl can dream right?) for all of us!!

Oh yeah! join us in the "October VSC filers"!!

  6. Glad someone started this thread!!

I filled last week on 10/7 and they cashed the check on 10/10, so I'm hoping for NOA1 soon. Quick question -- how do they send the NOA1 via email or regular mail?

Look forward to waiting and celebrating this process together.

You can check the NOA1 date online. If you have access to your cashed check image (available to me from my bank), you can get your receipt number which should be stamped on the back of the check. The number will probably start with the letters EAC followed by 10 digits. Go to the following link:

    https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/caseStatusSearchDisplay.do

and enter this number. It should list the NOA1 date. I don't know if they'll email the NOA1 but you'll definitely receive one in the mail. Hope this helps.

    YAY for the thread!!!

    We filed yesterday, Oct. 14th

I'm reading about all the cheques being sent...my fiancé did a money order. Guess there's no way to have any info before we receive NOA1 right?

oh boy.....I have to say it again.....WHY DIDN'T I FIND THIS WEBSITE BEFOOOOORE!

  7. One option we've been discussing since I first posted this is to have her come to the US on her B-2 as soon as her K-1 is approved. She would stay on her B-2 (assuming they let her in using it of course) for the maximum period of time of 3 months. Then she could return to Russia to wrap up any lose ends, returning to the U.S. on her K-1. The effect would be to have 6 months of living together to plan our wedding as opposed to only the 3 months the K-1 allows.

Chances are HIGH that once her K-1 paperwork is in the system she could be denied entry - why? as you know, it is always hard for a single Russian female to get a B2 in the first place, precisely because of the risk as it refers to intent to immigrate. This only gives a bigger red flag. If you decide to risk it, she needs to be prepared to show STRONG ties to Russia every time she attempts entering the US (as in apartment lease, mortgage or the like; letter from employer expecting her back; etc.). And even with strong ties, she can always be denied entry because her intent is indeed to immigrate.

    Good luck

Len makes good points. Showing the strong ties can be tricky. I will experience it soon as I will TRY to go to NY for Thanksgiving with our daughters. My fiancé lives in Albany, NY which is only 3-4hours from Montreal. I will go with my mortgage papers, bills, etc. but we know that there are still a chance that they'll turn us back....we also have a wedding to attend to in April...we'll keep our fingers crossed!

Your fiancée could always try to travel walking with all her evidence of course, but be prepared to the fact that she might not be allowed in....it's frustrating, but it's the reality! Good luck!!

  8. This may be a silly question, but here goes....

Whilst completing the section regarding my employment history, the 'From' and 'To' boxes aren't big enough to contain the spelling of certain months. For example, 'September' becomes 'Septem+' with the plus being an indicator on the Pdf form that there is additional information to be seen. This also happened with my full address so I edited it down a touch to sit nicely in the box. However, in terms of the dates, will it make a difference that the full spelling of the month is not seen? The last thing I want is to get an RFE!!

Also, I have a US social security number from when I studied in the United States although I have since forgotten it and can't seem to find it anywhere amongst my records. Is there anyway I can find out what it is?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

regarding the form, I don't think it would be a problem since they make the forms available online, they must know that stuff like that happens. Besides, there's enough letter to figure out that it's September! Good luck!

  9. Welcome to VJ!!! Hope you can find some answers to any of your questions and also provide some answers for other who follow you.

In the past, things were a lot different. Around 20 years ago, one of my friend's Mother moved to the U.S. to marry an American, and didn't require any kind of visa to do so. She just simply drove across the border with her fiance and her van loaded with her belongings. It's changed a lot since then (unfortunately for us!!!!).

So, perhaps the rules regarding SSN's were different 15 years ago as well, because I can't understand why your Mother would have been given a SSN just because she owned a home in Florida. My former in-laws owned a home at Mt. Baker (in Washington state) and they certainly were not allowed SSN's. They were always considered Canadians and were only allowed to spend 6 months a year at their home in Washington state.

Good luck for a speedy approval!!!!

Thank you for your reply. I agree...I don't why she was given a SSN. All my mom remembers is that she filled out a form and got the cards, one for her, one for me. I wrote it on the forms because I didn't want to hide anything. I just hope that USCIS doesn't see it as something bad.....

An SSN wil neither help nor hurt... Providing or not providing the required evidence is what will help you or hurt you. Since a SSN is not a required piece of evidence, it never comes into play...

Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought and tried to explain to them.

I have another question for people....I just saw the guide about sending I-129F package. We did not put a cover letter and did not put a lot of evidence that we met personally besides our daughters' birth certificate. We figured it was enough but now I'm afraid we should've put more. Given that we sent everything yesterday, is there a way to send more info? To same address?

    Thanks again

My evidence was relatively minimal for meeting in person: dated boarding passes, credit card statement for flight, about 6 dated pictures, and a photocopy of the used visa and entry/exit stamp into the country. It's usually for the final interview at the embassy when people bring a lot of evidence to prove a real and true relationship.

If you only put your daughters' birth certificates, it may or may not be sufficient. Strictly speaking, they have no way of verifying with the birth certificates that your fiance is your daughters' biological father. I guess it depends on the person reviewing the case.

I would not recommend sending information on its own. There's a very good chance that it'll never get "united" with your I-129F filing. If they require more evidence, they will send you a Request for Evidence (RFE).

  11. I'm reposting this because I was moved to introduction because of title.

    Hello all,

I've been reading some of the discussions and thought I'd join in. I wish I knew about this website earlier....I think it's great to be able to communicate with people with similar situations. We just started the fiancée process (K1). My fiancé put the application in the mail yesterday.

He is the American citizen, I'm a Canadian citizen. We have 2 daughters together who were born in Montreal, where I live. My fiancé will do dual citizenship (born abroad) for both of them, so they are not included in this process (although we did write their names of course).

About 15 years ago, my mother got us SSN that are not valid for employment. My mother is also canadian and never lived in the States, but she bought a house in FL and was able to apply for it somehow....I don't know the details and she doesn't remember. My fiancé and his mother seem to think that the fact that I've had a SSN for roughly 15years will help. Is that true? Anyone knows?

Also any inside info that anyone has on K1 and Montreal processing will be greatly appreciated!!

Hopefully as I go through this process, I will be able to help others.

    Thanks
