The artile says that American alsways say things directly and honestly.
I think it is the other way around. People are so indirect here. Even your friends don't tell you what they really think. I was told so many times that foreigners are so much more direct.

Hubby speaks no Russian and hates Moscow.
-
I agree, just renew your passport.
-
Good for you, moonhunt! Good luck!
I am also looking into some government jobs.
-
My husband would never live in Moscow. He says it is so huge and crazy. I just say that it isn't huge and crazy, it is that St. Louis is slow and rural.

People get surprised when I tell hem that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Russia. Hullo, pilgrims came from Europe to America, not the other way around.
My mother-in-law thought I would have no clothes when I first got here. Where did she take this idea that Russian people are so poor that they wear the same clothes every day? Was she surprised when I showed up in my mink coat.
Russian women do love their fur!
We most certainly do!!!!

Wow, it is a good insurance! 25 bucks! I paid at least 2 grand out of pocket for a normal uncomplicated delivery.
And my insurance is considered to be good.
I havn't been here for a while. Nice to see everybody again!

It all worked out after all.

We had a civil ceremony. I just wore a pretty ivory gown and my hubby wore a suit. It was nice and intimate.

Aren't you supposed to file for AOS within 90 days after your arrival to the US? What is your status right now? Your K-1 visa has expired and you don't have a green card....
I don't mean to judge but I'd rather not have a lavish wedding but enough money for AOS. This is what we did. We were glad we did that when my hubby got laid off and I had to support him while he was looking for a job. If I didn't have a green card and couldn't drive, it would be a disaster....

Well, my passport arrived yesterday. I am officially DONE.

Don't get grumpy, just look at the timeline of the person from the same office as you. They are pretty slow. I estimate you will have your oath in March. It will happen, don't worry!!!!
-
Congrats!!!!!

Great news!!!!
-
Congratulations and good luck!

I took a very nice picture with the judge.

My first job was in Victoria's Secret. Retail is a good place to start.
-
The ceremony took place in the courtroom. My husband and mom were sitting in one part of it together with the other families and relatives and people taking the oath were sitting in a separate part of the room. They did a good job incorporating families in the ceremony. My husband was even allowed to take a picture with me and the judge.

I hated the US my first year here. I come from the capital city and had to move to a little city where people were afraid of foreigners and it was impossible to get a job. I cried every day for my old life. Then I just made an effort to move to a bigger city which we did (I got a job offer). It isn't a capital of course but at least people don't get scared if you have an accent.
Everything takes time. And effort. And the US is a hard country to live in. Many people can't do that at all.

She isn't going to lose her propiska in Russia if she renews her passport in US. These things are not connected.
I have renewed my Russian passport in my maiden name (why bother with the name change?) and I am going to get a US passport with my married name (as I am a citizen now).

Thank you, guys!
My mom is certainly spoiling him. She says that he is exceptionally smart. How come I have never heard such a statement about myself? Those grandparents....
-
Hey guys,
Thank you so much!!!! I am a US citizen now. Nice feeling.
The ceremony went well. Both my husband and my mom who is visiting from Russia attended. The funny thing that at the ceremony my documents were processed by the same guy who conducted my interview. This difficult dude who wanted to see my hubby.
Well, he recognized us both immediately. He even nodded approvingly when he saw that my hubby showed up with a big bunch of flowers for me.
So glad to be done! I already registered to vote, I will run to SS office today and apply for the passport on Saturday.
Now on to getting ready for my son's first birthday party next week.
Bringing cell phone from Russia
in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America

T-Mobile is fine. I take my American phone to Russia, put a Russian SIM card and it works. It should be the same the other way around.
