  1. shes going to check if you have something in your ###.yes doctors will going to open your ###..i dont know the English name of it but it looks like cauliflower..

    Um. WHAT?!

I was wondering the same thing. What doctor is opening whose cauliflower?

  2. I'm jealous of you guys! My inlaws are here on a visit, and the FIL is driving me insane! Maybe I exaggerate my feelings a bit, but I dont feel I need a 45 minute explanation of how a microwave works, or wrong facts on American life... from a foreigner! For example, a recent one was "walmart is the first supermarket in the US" ummm, no it wasnt. So he'll make up excuses and reasoning to try to prove his point, even though he's wrong.

  3. 4) ####### were the doctors thinking??? Sometimes you need to say no.

I was also wondering what doctors let this go through... and second, how loaded must have this 70yr old lady been to afford that... and be living in India. Unless this was some experiment, to see how old the oldest IVF is.

Or she just found the most unethical fertility doctor in India.

She may have! I heard of people going to India to get lypo & facelifts cause they only cost like $350.

  5. illinois had issues with him prior to the last election, but the GOP is even worse and put forth their usual weak canidate....if they had a even half way viable canidate, he would not have been re-elected

Illinois has issues with this historically. Kind of like the mayor of chicago situation, no one can get rid of Daley. And as he ages, he's getting his son all ready for the role.

  6. The article almost states "if your spouse is cheating within 2 years of marriage, it was fraud". Yes, yes, fraud does exist. But honestly, how many couples get divorced within 2 years. I'd say a good amount of the total divorce rate. If it wasnt meant to be, then it wasn't. Some fail to see that any immigrant marriage desovles just because. They seem to always blame fraud.

  7. I need help finding podstakanik (Russian tea glasses). My friend Tanya has a burning desire to fill her house with these (little metal holders with handles and a heat proof glass that fits inside). She had closets full of them in Russia but after 15 years in America she can't go back to get them. I found some Russian stores on line that sell them for crazy prices ($70 ea) but know they must exist somewhere for a lot less. I looked everywhere for them in Russia last Sept but nobody there wants "that old junk". Anybody know where I can find these? Also the replacement glasses.

I found a slightly smaller variety of these glasses at Macy's last year. I think they were like $12-16 each.

For those sending jewelry, I heard if you tape the box with silver tape, it doesn't show up the contents on the x-ray... and may decrease risk for theft.

  8. I've heard you can't buy shoes as a present, that it brings bad luck to the receiver. Also heard that if at family dinner a fork falls to the floor, and unexpected guest will arrive hungry.

And the weird one, I heard when I was a kid, was that if a child is sitting with their legs up, and someone jumps across them, that means the kid's growth will stop.

  9. Apparently that guy has a 4% approval rating - lowest in the country.

I think that says it all. Not really going to get sympathy from anyone.

That rating is only so low, because it depends on who you ask. Lots & lots of immigrants & elderly love Blagojevich. No matter what they hear, they say he's a good man, and has helped the state tremendously.

I say his big accomplishments were increases in property taxes so high, that some are loosing their homes due to taxes... not mortgages, and more tolls around Chicago suburbs than any other state.

  10. I think IVF at age 70 should be illegal. I actually think it should be illegal after 50. The goal of a parent is to raise their child, ensure they are fed, educated, supported and come out to be good people in life.... raise them. Having a kid at 70 means you are depriving it of a good parent. You can not run after them, you can't play games and do stuff like a much younger parent can. That child suffers a poorer quality of life, because of the parents selfishness to fulfill their want.

Also, I'm kind of against IVF all together. If God doesn't want you to have babies naturally, then he doesnt want you to procreate. There are so many kids in foster homes, or available for adoption. Save the $20-40K that IVF costs, and put it in an education fund for an adopted child.

I've read earlier in the thread about complaints on men, that they string you along, until its too late to have a baby. That is the womans choice then, to stay and be strung along. If your main goal in life is to have a baby, then act on it. I also dont believe in this day & age its better to have kids in late 40's or 50s, just because you werent financially sound to have them earlier. You plan your life, so you could have planned & better managed life to afford it.

I dont understand why people place their "wants" ahead of the child's "needs" that may not get addressed if the parent is no longer here to support them.

  11. Some companies post openings for positions they aren't really looking for. They do this to show they are "expanding" when their competitors may not be. They already have annual accounts with Job boards like Monster, etc, so they post away. This is a good time to gather resumes for when they may have a "real" opening later on.

Its not really you not meeting their requirements, its them not having a position really even open! That's probably why the fast "sorry" email goes out.

  12. I wish this were a multiple choice poll!

I chose washing the floors. I absolutely hate it. I hate it so much, I got a iRobot Scooba to do it. Then I read the instructions "do not use on non-sealed hardwood floors" which is exactly what I got it for. UGH! Washing our floors leaves streaks, and I never feel they are super 110% clean.

But I have to say, the Scooba does a great job on ceramic floors. So for any of you complaining about floors, invest in it!

I also hate cooking. I used to like it, but with the lack of participation from my spouse, this once passion has now turned into a chore :( I wish I was Rachel Ray and could whip up 30 min meals everyday.

  13. Thank you sooooo much for your answers

    to clarify some stuff:

I'm the foreign spouse and my wife is from the US. I was on a student visa that expired but it does not mean that I'm outta status or overstying in the US, F1 student are legal to stay in the US until their I20 expires, mine will in 2011. So which means I can stay in the US and be legal untill 2011 as long as I'm a fulltime student.

GiGGi I don't know what you meant but, I left on a student visa, I'm still in school in good status, never been outta status. Got married in march while I was in status, sent my AOS and now it is pending.

Extra info cleared it up. Your timeline said F1 expired, so i thought you had some overstay issue.

    Your brother should be fine.

  14. This depends on how in depth of an interview he's going to have. Some just look into the financial situation to make sure he'll have the financial means to cover expenses while he's studying here. (also saw in your timeline that Malian student visa is only 3 months?? thought that was kind of odd).

What may happen is he'll ask if he has any family in the US. Then when he says he has a sister, he the IO can dive deeper into questioning, how did she get there, etc etc. If he mentions you left on a student visa, a bell may go off, to question further. I think the part about marrying wont be a problem, but if an IO hears you overstayed, he may think your brother will also.

This of course depends on what the denial rate at the consulate he goes to is, if its high, he'll face more scrutiny, so be prepared.
