  1. hey guys! im new to this forum so sorry if i am in the wrong place but I wanted to ask a few questions regarding the n-400. I was approved for my 10 year green card around march and the date i received residency was october 1, 2009 (through marriage) so when should i file for citizenship, i know its 3 years but i read somewhere that i can apply 90 days before..is this correct (according to my lawyer its only 30 days) also when i file since i am doing it through marriage..do i have to resend that lengthy package that i sent in from the i-75 that proves we are a married couple or new "evidence"?... Thanks for all your help guys! :)

From what I understand the Marriage date is irrelevant, you need to be resident three years from the date of your issue date on your green card before you can apply for citizenship.

not 100% sure about the time window thing for citizenship, maybe someone can answer that, i have not heard of a time window that you can apply for the naturalization early.

    Good Luck.

  2. Hmmm my first thought was, how can you get medicare for your pregnant wife?

surely you would have to earn x amount in order to bring her into the country on a visa, thus rendering you ineligable for medicare.

Secondly, your wife is not eligable to be a burdon on the state that is why they have a stipulation of earning x amount ayear to support the non citizen.

Third, did you not have a medical plan through private means or work related?

which with her added could have helped.

Do you have the confirmation paperwork that says as a GC holder your eligable to be covered?

if so then see a lawyer to fight your case, good luck.

  3. The two copies is for your own safety.

meaning if they lose your package, not that they ever do....

you will have a second copy of the original documents you have sent in.

now chill and give your man a hug and tell him sorry.

everyone knows this process and how stressfull it is and can be.

    good luck to you both.

  4. Hi Guys

A quick question for someone to answer.

This November I will be married 3 years, and continually resident in the USA.

my green card is up for renewal this September,it has been posted off.

My question is....in order to apply for citizenship do I have to wait for the three year

anniversary of getting my permanent resident(green card) or the three year anniversary of

being married 3(three) years to my US citizen wife?

I think I know the answer but just wanted to get clarification on the subject.

    Many thanks inadvance.

  5. Hey guys

Hope all is ok? a couple of questions,

I am filling in the I-175 to renew my green card to remove conditions

Where it asks to Have you ever been arrested detained charged fined etc etc

is that EVER? or just in the USA

Also, where it mentions in part 5 information about your children, does that mean your kids in the UK?(where both mine are)

    many thanks in advance.

  6. Stop panicking....I was in the same boat, although only held over night, answer YES to the question and where if it asks for an explanation just enter what happened and the result. IT WILL COME UP SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE as you have been advised.

Be honest and all will be fine.

Not sure why they would hold you for 5 days for possibly having weed on you but guess different countries different laws.

Again, and I can't stress this enough be truthful as a lie or half truth will come back and bite you in the end.

    Good Luck.

  7. USCIS do not move fast, especially if your waiting on progress being made...we waited months for a reply in total the process from start to finish took nearly a year.

Don't get too down hearted it will get processed, this website made the wait just about bearable

just keep up the communication with your loved one and leave the rest to take care of itself.

    good luck on your journey.

  8. It certainly is not easy and takes time, I was lucky in the fact that a week after i got my EAD

I got a job through a local temp agency, it was nothing great, but, it took the pressure off finding that

great job that i wanted to build a career with.

I registered with all on-line sites, Americanized my resume, and then sent it out in to internet world.

I also registered with every local agency in my area, got interviews with each one so they could put a

face to the name and accent, then kept in touch with them all on a weekly basis.

I also took up coaching soccer and found a lot of friends through that, who would inform me of local companies

taking people on and who to apply to etc etc after a while i began to get nearly an interview a week but

was able to choose which ones i wanted due to having a job so could pick and choose, I eventually after

many months got the job i had been trying to get into since last May, I start this Monday.

things do get better, put in the effort, get yourself out there, make friends and socialize and word of mouth

will get you that one job your looking for.

    good luck.

  9. It made more sense for me to move from Scotland to USA, Fiancee had been over a few times visiting but did not like the wind and rain and i think the harshness of the people, it's more cuddly in the South lol.

I had a good job but was living with family, where as Fiancee had just moved into new home and had steady job working as a nurse so had no problems with healthcare as all family is encluded.

We have the same discussions, about differences in culture, words, candy, etc etc i must admit i did not realise how big the culture difference would be but i am getting used to it as is my wife with me lol.

even working here is soooo different. the experience continues....i also think the milk is weak here, i also miss my Scottish pride bread and real bacon.

  10. I am/was from the UK too and ironically started the process in Janurary as well, I am not going to tell you all will be easy and the wait won't be that bad, it is.....from start to finish took us 10 months to be together.

We initially started out on Skype 24/7 then we moved onto Magic Jack which saved us both a fortune, especially calling nearly 24/7, got USC(now wife)to send it to me which i set up as local USA number so calls cost nothing other than the yearly $20 equivalent.

I was fortunate enough that I changed my shift work to constantly be on the same hours as USA, DOWNSIDE BEING I WAS CONSTANT NIGHTSHIFT....but the good thing was we both were on the same timeline, we also arranged during the weekends to download movies on our pc and then call each other, click on start and then sit and watch the movies together through the night(UKtime) all the time working towards getting our stuff together, first USC gets her stuff together, then after a few months it is the NON USC to get the stuff together and honestly the process goes quicker towards the end....just think of what your goal is and where you want to be this time next year, I would suggest to save as much money as you can to get by when you get here and waiting for the work authorization card.....remember when you are both together you will look back on this time and it will be a distant memory that bonds you forever.

We sat on our porch in OUR new home and toasted a glass of wine with "we did it"

    good luck guys.

  11. Hey guys don't worry too much it is painless and a lot less stressful than the original K1 visa interview, we got put through for an interview, because i had, the year before i got here, been refused entry and returned to UK, anyway, got to interview early, stood in line with the other few interviewees and partners, after showing our letter to security we were let into the building and through the scanners, then over to a desk to show letter they directed us to the seating area, we sat for 5 mins and then got called, interviewer had all our file, they explained why we had been asked for interview, he asked how our trip was where we met if we had pictures, looked at them for 2 seconds, then talked about my country(Scotland) and how i liked USA then he said ok well you should get the card in the post, "oh sorry, yes you have been accepted" that was it in and out within 10-15 mins.....week later i got the card in the post with welcome to USA leaflets inclosed.

  12. Sorry, lost in translation....I put in the original question the date of when I got the Green Card and when it expires, my question was, or should have been, Do I have to apply for a NEW GreenCard when it expires? as I suspect, I can only apply for Citizenship three years from the date of receiving the original GreenCard. when I get the NEW GreenCard to take me legally over the Three Year threshold can I then apply for Citizenship within that time.....also how long do you apply for with the second GreenCard.

    thanks for the replies

  13. Just to be clear, ONE certificate for Philippines and ONE for Japan.

We're still waiting for NOA2, but I wanted to be ready for the next step when the time comes.

    Thanks for the help.

yes thats correct, any you country you have lived in 12 months or more through out your life, and have to have English translation. Good idea to get this started early as can take some time depemding on the number of countries and also finding place to translate if required.
