Hi,
I have a friend who is currently applying for security clearance for federal jobs. She does not know whether she is dual citizen or not as she just received her passport last year and did not apply for dual citizenship in the Philippine Embassy. Now the questions is:
1.Once she renounced her citizenship:
a. Will she be able to acquire back the filipino citizenship someday?
b. Will she lose the property that she already have in the philippines?
2. When she received her US citizenship, did she automatically lose her filipino citizenship or does she have to renounce it? Does her passport still valid?
I told her about visa journey, but she said she does not have time to sit down and research in the internet..so I am doing this for her.
I know there is someone here who used to be in the law practice, i just forget her name..i hope she can read this post.

Hi all you 319b filers. I know most of you got oaths the same day, but what about you guys who did not?
There was no oath today after our interview, so we were told to come back next Friday. On the way out, we asked, "What time," and they said we would get a letter in the mail in the next two or three days or that we would get a phone call.
Strangely, they called about 30 minutes after we left, but we were not yet home. We got home an hour later.
Should we call back? They left no message. We just want this to be over, but we feel like it is. We have the little letter that has "Congratulations" checked, but no official oath letter.
Thoughts?
THomas,
try to call back.. like what i have said before, agencies may varies.. some do the oath at the same day...but no worries... You are almost done with the process.
COngratulation.. My friend also is a usc now, she did it in VA.

i find this article offensive being a USC married to a Filipina. My wife is highly educated and has no problem supporting her family with her income but because she chose a foreigner to marry she should be branded as some kind of pathetic soul. that is so wrong. The fact of the matter is the Philippine Government is mostly to Blame for this situation, if they focused more on eliminating the corruption running rampant in their government and less time on pushing issues like this, maybe Filipinos would have more options to remain in the Philippines and the whole social structure could improve. As far as the domestic violence for Filipinos abroad goes there are far more instances of abuse coming from employers of " helpers" and entertainers than from abuses by foreign spouses and it is offensive for this type of article to state it so unfairly.
I completely agree with you..
As far oif the questions of Mr.. Mykuls, regarding as to why we married foreigner instead of marrying filipino, I will not speak or disrespect filipino men as they are also great person. But what to do if our path did not cross and I met someone who I fell in love with and married and coinsidence he is american national?
It is just so sad that when we marry an american we got branded like a shirt, and it is really unfair to us. But there's nothing we can do to change people's mind... It is just a matter of ignorance... We dont have to prove anything to anybody, people will say what they want to say but you know what as long as we are happy.. we can just ignore it.... It is just getting old after a while... Only our spouse will tell how we are to him.. and decide whether who is right or wrong..
MMV is right as far as the abuse to filipinos coming overseas like the helpers, especially in the Middle East.. But also, as far as I experience, filipinos here are getting abused also by some americans, not their spouse but people who is married but pretended that they were single, or even if they are single after they get what they want, they left the filipina pregnant.. A lot of cases here with a situation like that.. but we never branded american as a user. And this is not fair.
What iif we flipped the coin and will say that, american is just dating filipinos for one reason, to use their body and get their dignity out of her.. Isnt that bad? of course it is...
-
This articles generalized filipinos as a whole. I can not speak for others but I will speak for myself.
Unemployment rate in the philippines is rapidly increasing as the government can not provide more jobs for all of us.. .. Filipino men or women go abroad to work to support their families back home, and I will consider myself that I am one of them, I was 22yo when I left the Philippines, i had a nice career back then, it does not pay that much but it taught all the legal aspects in courts and such. By perseverance I guess and hardwork, I reach the goal i have in life by having a job that better my life and my family back home.. Then I met my husband.
Now, marrying a foreigner like my husband is not the option for me to have a good life, as I believe with perseverance and hardwork, I can be able to support my parents back home.. I did not intend to marry my husband who is coinsidence a USC national but it was destiny that brought us together.
It does not mean that when we married a foreigner, our life is in a bed of roses.. We also have to work and help our husband financially to have a better life for the family.

hello,
so i have an interesting dilemma:
i have applied for citizenship under 319b from cambodia. i've expressed worries on this site about not receiving mail in a timely manner.
i requested an interview at the fairfax, va, office which provides an email you can use to inquire about your case. after several emails, i did get a response from an officer on january 16. he offered me two possible interview dates, march 3 and 4.
i wrote back to say those dates were fine. guess what...no word since!!!
so, i have sent him several follow up emails, phoned earlier this week, but have had no reply NOR a letter from USCIS stating that i have an interview.
the interview is supposed to take place in less than 4 weeks. since i have had no confirmation, i still don't have my ticket.
i am wondering, is his email proof that i really do have an interview on one of those days?
would he have actually looked into my case before offering these dates?
what happens if i never get a letter?
has this happened to anyone before?
thank you all so much.

When did you file your N400?
-
6 months ago, a friend came to me and ask me how did I become a citizen in the matter of 1 1/2 years time while overseas, and I did tell her that because her husband works overseas as a contractor she can file N400 under Article 319b of Immigration Nationality Act.. She said she want to do it and if I can help her because it is hard to come back every year knowing that it is too expensive to fly for the whole family..
To make story short, I did help her will all the required documentation from start to finish and she sumbitted her packet around October, did the interview yesterday, she gots approved and took the oath!!! She is american citizen now..
The only thing that delayed her for 2 hours is that the officer asked for a letter from the company of her husband stating that his wife is joining with him overseas... She called me to ask our Manager for this letter, and we scanned it for her and sent it to the officer.. Then this morning she called me... she took the oath at the same day!!!
I am so happy for her,, she is not a member of VISA JOURNEY but i just want to express my happiness in this forum..
Nothing is impossible if you have patience to do it....
-
IR-1 Visa is for couple that is married for more than 2 years. The paperwork and required documents is just the same for CR-1 Visa. CR-1 Visa is a Conditional Visa for couple who are just married for not more than 2 years.. Tis visa is valid for 2 years..
Dont be confused as far as the visas... Since you dont have a kids yet, file for Petition for Alien Spouse. Here are the forms you need.
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-130.pdf
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-325a.pdf
http://foia.state.gov/forms/newscripts/formlist.asp?type=V
Since you are living now in Qatar, will it be possible for you to just cancel the old petition and re open a new one?
-
I wouldnt worry what other people say, family, friends, neighbor, anybody.. When you married, you should have get yourself ready for any speculation from different people, because you choose someone from different country.
You are already married to your husband and that is all that matters.. People can say everything they want to say, and you can never control them.. Sabi nga you can not please everybody.. so think that you are better than them.. If pinatulan mo meaning, they won as they were trying to pick on to get the real information about you.
Simple solution, tell him to close his account to myspace, so any comments you will see it will not bother you...Or dont read his my space.. Ikaw na lang umiwas... Or you can either file a police report.
I had been treated badly from the past, received comments from different people from my husband family, but I did totally ignore them, I still remain cordial and civil to them.. People will get tired and will realized they are wrong so, just dont worry about it.. Worrying will affect your relationship with your husband.

Don't mean to be rude, but please only reply with some sound info or advice. Looking for assistance not criticism. Thank you.
I am an American currently residing overseas in Qatar where I am employed as an English Instructor.
My Ethiopian wife, who I have been married to for almost 4 years, is presently residing with me in Qatar. However our case is in the hands of the U.S. Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, as that is where she was residing when our case was filed.
I had been requested to submit an I864 from a joint sponsor and proof of domicile. (Of course I also submitted an I864 with my personal information, although that had no value since my income is overseas).
My father who makes about $60,000 each year submitted the joint sponsor form. They are now asking for a second sponsor. My wife and I have no kids, so I am sure that my father's income meets the requirements for financial responsibility. Also noteworthy is that the address of my father differs from the address that I provided on my 864 and documents showing domicile.
Secondly, concerning domicile, I have submitted the following and still have been rejected: proof of voter registration, a valid driver's license, statements from my U.S. bank account (which included a letter showing years of maintaining the account) and credit cards, and mutual fund account statements (all statements having the same mailing address). All of my documents showing domicile use the same address except my license which shows another address in the same state. I also have a utility bill in my name that I will submit the next-time around. Is this not sufficient? I am sure there have been some who have been granted a visa with less documentation than this! I feel like there is someone at the Embassy who gets turned on by rejecting applicants!!!!!!!!!!
May I also add that after inquiring to know if they had received the joint sponsor form (about two months after I mailed it) I was informed by email that it had not been received. Then a couple days later, I asked if I could send a copy since the originals had apparently been lost in the mail. They then replied that I needed 'another' joint sponsor which I assume means they did indeed have the original I-864 in the first place. SOUNDS FISHY TO ME!
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. I am now even willing to pay for a lawyer to assist me. Can you please give me some advice and/or provide me with ANY contacts of lawyers who help Americans residing overseas?
If you choose to, you can drop me an email at dshell32@gmail.com. THANK YOU!
I am confused as to why you said the your income overseas has no value??? We are living in Kuwait and still living here when my husband filed the petition? As to question regarding your income, my husband is just an ordinary contractor as well. We did not submit any proof of domicile except his passport, tax returns, company letter, employment letter overseas as we dont have any house in the US. When we got question in the interview, we told them that we are working overseas and that is my sister's in laws address.
If I were you, since you are living in Qatar, and I am hoping that you have residency there as well, why dont you cancel and reopen the case.. ask the embassy if they can do it.. http://qatar.usembassy.gov/spouse.html
Try to send them an inquiry first to the embassy in qatar if you can close the case in the UAE, and transfer or begin the new process in Qatar., before going to a lawyer... and if there is no solution at all, then probably yes, hire a lawyer.
What I can think of this, I apologize for my first post, probably the immigration process has changed for the last 2 years.

My husband taught me the basic of driving but it did not really work for me, as I am more nervous to him.. My father in law and my sister in law's husband offered themselves to teach me how to drive but still I did not pass the test. I was just in the US for 1 week, so I am not really expecting to gain a lot of confidence driving especially in parallel parking.. I passed the written test but failed the road test.. Woke up 3 am in the morning just to be included in the 40 person a day in Dallas DMV. But still did not work as what can you expect from someone with 1 week driving experience to pass the parallel parking?
But I have no regrets, maybe it was not just the right time for me, i just took that as a learning experience.
What may work for other people may not work for her.. Spouse sometimes can be mean when teaching his wife how to drive, as he is more eager to see the results....
Because this will be a lifetime, you may want to enroll her in a driving school.. You can teach her some basic and see if she can learn better, but if it is not working, spend some money to enroll her in the driving school.

This thread is interesting I guess but i just did not like the idea of sharing opinion in other foreign language other than english and tagalog..
Knowing and not forgetting where we came from is a great thing, but being so proud that results to disrespect to other races or nationality is not right at all... People can tell where we came from, what races are we, we dont have to be real proud and disrespectful to other people and compare ourselves to them. Just the way we look, the way we carry ourselves, people knows we are from the Philippines
Cheers!

Hi everyone. My wife, infant son and myself are traveling to the Phils in May. My wife has her green card and Phils passport. However, her passport is still in her maiden name. If we bring her green card, certified copy of marriage certificate and her passport are we ok? Also we will be in the Phils for almost 3 weeks. Any chance NSO might get her name change on her passport completed while we are there? God Bless.
Your wife should have at least ammended her passport after she got married. She needs to go to the nearest Philippine Embassy in your area and apply for passport or at least request for amendment. You have 3 months to do this prior to your travel to avoid any problems in the future....Neither any members here is an expert so, better to be prepared.
Philippines does not care if your wife is a greencard holder.

We have watched this movie last weekend.. I thought its kind of boring as the actress in that movie does not know how to act, but after a while, I focused on the story and realized that it was a great movie. Both of us had tears.
This movie happens in reality.. some couple fights for money, some are not. Some tend to say I do this, I did this.. and its all about I.. Communication plays a very important role in any relationship.
Cheers!
-
TRUST plays a very important role in one relationship.. Without trust, relationship will fall into pieces..
You will never know the person until you live with him/her, so basically marrying someone is taking a risk, whether he is a cheater or not, no body knows..
COMMUNICATION plays a big role as well, even if you love each other and you dont know how to communicate, it is useless..
COMPROMISE is a part as well, couple should learn how to compromise..
Without these three words, you can't have relationship with someone...
People cheats with different reason... It is not a human nature, but it is something that a person does when they are not satisfied with the person they love.. Temptation plays with it too.. but this is up to the person who has the problem in communication.. These three words are actually connected.
-
oh yeah! i want to ask abt this too..i will be bringing my son soon here in USA and i already have a greencard, and my son is his first time entry...where we go fall in line in the immigration? of course i cant let my son fall in line by his self,he is only 5 years old.
you can bring him in the line with you... that is exceptional..

Please click the website below.. This will guide you as a newly naturalized citizen.
Thank you for that link.
Do I understand this correctly, even though I used my middle initial on my application, I should make sure that I sign my full name without any initials on my photographs and Certificate of Naturalization?
Just checking, since the IO seems to have encourage eau_xplain to use the same signature on all three items (application, pictures and certificate).
I wonder if it makes a difference then if you sign your passport the usual way.
passport is different.. you can sign your usual signature.
In the interview, the officer will tell you to sign your picture.. Make sure you sign in your full name and it will be same in the Naturalization certificate as per the link I gave you.
In the oath ceremony, they will give you a copy of Oath of Allegiance, maybe Flag sometimes, and an instruction how to sign the certificate.
I had someone that redo her certificate and apply for another certificate as she did not sign the certificate correctly as what the intructions indicated.
It depends to the officer in charge, but if I were you I will just follow the instruction.. Read first before you sign anything.

Is there anyone who has Dallas office experience to share? We have an interivew coming up...
Be there at least 30 minutes early.. Put the appointment letter in the box once the guard let you come in. If you were lucky Dallas do the interview and oath at the same day..
Read the history and be confident... Present yourself like you will be interviewed for a job.
Goodluck..

Hello everyone, I haven't been here for around 5 months due to an illness. But now that i have recovered from this, I want to continue to get my wife and her child over here to be with me. But I have to wait until I get a buyout from my job that is coming to a end in June, 09.
I am worried about bringing my wife over because of uncertainty of my financial situation. I have enough money to get here over here but I don't know if I am going to be working or in the unemployment line with so many other people that are out of work here.l
But with this buyout that I am getting from my job, it might be the only time for a long, long time that i would be able to pay for everything that needs to be paid to get my new family here.
Some people say I should just get her here and things will work out and that Filipinos are resilient and find some way to make it work wherever they are. There are a lot of Filipinos where I live in the S.F. bay area so maybe that would make things easier for here.
My only other option would be to just take a trip over there after my job ends and spend some time with her and try to bring her over here when things get better. I am just afraid it's going to turn into a big disaster if I don't have enough money to take care of them.
I miss my wife so much. It's going on two years since i have seen her and she really wants me to get things going here. I know she isn't going to wait forever although she said she would.
thanks,
martinbr
You may want to try applying jobs overseas as contractors , the money is really good here, you can escape from recession in the US. There is lot of jobs in communication, administration, mechanical.. different jobs same as in the United States.. They provide housing (fully furnished) and company vehicles.. This will allow you to save money and get ready to live with your family, and be able to take care of them.. You can bring your family here as well, and process the immigrant visa, more easier and quicker than the US Embassy in the Philippines..
http://www.dangerzonejobs.com/artman/publi..._index_20.shtml
Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE is not bad at all is pretty safe and lot of Filipinos live here. We've been here for 5 years.

the usual case is not...you will be in US citizen line and she in visitors line...but it depends on the situations...sometimes you can go together most especially when long line for visitors...or you can ask the personnel in the airport that will assists you...In my case we are in separate line...
Happy Trip!!!
Thanks for your reply! Are there any others who would like to tell me their experience going thru customs together when it is her first time to enter the USA?
Hello,
Based on my experienced, I was also a CR1 Visa, you and your wife will be going to different counter.. You will line up the USC counter, and your wife will be going to separate line for IMMIGRANTS only.. VISITORS line is different as this is much more people. and the counter for FLight Stewards/Pilot is different as well.
In the IMMIGRANTS counter, the Officer will ask your wife for an envelope (sealed) that came from US Embassy in Manila.. This is the envelope that was given to your wife and was intructed "DO NOT OPEN" until the OFFICER ask her at the PORT OF ENTRY. After the officer opened the envelope.. he will ask a few questions (nothing bad) and take biometrics for her and fingerprint.. After the officer reviewed the paperwork in the envelope, he will tell her that the greencard will be in the mail soon.
The IMMIGRATION line is kind of slow, I would advise you that you better hurry after the plane boarded out passenger, so you can be the first one in the line and you dont have to wait that long for her.. Occasionally there will be families inline and that kills the time for the other people waiting...
I entered the US with my son and my husband.. My son and him went to the USC line as my son is already a USC and I went to different line... They have to wait for me for almost an hour, as I was at the last, with 3 families in front of me...
Hope this helps,.

I am sure this has been covered before somewhere but I can not find anything on it. Once you bring your wife to the USA what is the next thing that must be done? Any forms to fill out so she can be permanent resident? Green Card? Is there a certain amount of time before we can go back to visit the Philippines? Any information or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
If she is a CR1 VISA..she just need to receive her greencard and get a SSN. She can leave anytime once she have the greencard on hand, provided that she will not stay in the Philippines for more than 11 months.
She have to adjust her conditional status if she is a CR1, 90 days before the date of expiry.
Thanks for the information but have another question for you, She is CR1 and what is the expiry of conditional status? Is that a two year time period?
Hi, if you were married not more than 2 years, they will issue her a Conditional Greencard which mean this is valid for 2 years, she have to lift up condition 90 days before expiry...
butif you were married more than 2 years or you were married for 2 years, they will issue your wife a PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD valid for 10 years.
I hope this clear your confusion.
