As you may be aware Filipino is rich also in history and cultures.. We do still have our values and beliefs even now in the modern days....
This is just a continuation on my recent post regarding Language Barrier.... I am moving now in the second part on my experience in my first year of marriage.
I've got pregnant after 1 month of marriage.. I guess it is a honeymoon baby... And because I grew up in a small town (small barrio) where the superstitious belief exist all the time. There is a lot of older people who used to gather in a small store and talk about short stories "kwentong barbero" I am not saying I did believe on all those but when you grew up with those people like that, you still carry that belief even when you get older... Even when I went to Manila it did not change the way I am as country girl.. or in tagalog you call it (probinsyana)
When I gave birth to my son, I remember what my mom told me about do's and dont's in taking care of the baby, which contradict on my husband beliefs on how they were raised. Putting oil On the baby stomach to massage it for flatulence (Called Manzanilla), instead of giving him Little Tummy (US brand) he admitted that this is really working to my son.. I believe in medicine, but somehow we do know some alternative medicine that we can used without taking a medicine... Like the old people used to do back in the old days... We had a little argument in some of this, . He has his own way also on how to take care babies, but you know I am the mother..
But you know it takes time to understand one another.. i think that is just part of marriage life.. But now we understand what we need to do if the second baby come up.
Day by day of knowing each other is really a challenging for both of us, but we did have a good laugh after we argued on something nonsense. No matter what we argues mixed it with some sense of humor and everything wll be alright..

Has anyone purchased software to learn a language? I'm considering Rosetta Stone's Tagalog L1/L2; is it worth the cost?
Rosetta is good, but is a little bit expensive. But if u really want to learn basic tagalog you can check the website below.
THis is a free website for tagalog language. I used to teach my husband tagalog but he does not have patience.
Thank you for the website. Maraming salamat po. Hopefully I'll have down some of the basics before my family arrives in the states. I know a fair amount of spanish and that makes it a little easier since a lot of tagalog words have spanish orgin.
We always need to start the basic first and apply words to it, add something to it.. Basic question, who, what, where, how, why , no need to worry numbers because we have our language mixed with english sometimes.. Unlike here in the arab country I have to learn how to count in arabic because nobody speak english.
I always used to do a research when my husband wants to buy something.. I gave him an option all the time which one is cost effective, I am like devil's advocate.. But if he really like I dont have a say so also.. Im just giving him option to balance it out before buying.
Goodluck!

Some says that LDR won't work because of lack of trust, communication and etc...
You can give you opinion on how to workout this kind of relationship.
GOD bless to all of us.
In my own opinion it depends up to people. Some people work it out real good, some dont..
In my own personal experience lasted 6 years, LDR did not work because I realized in the end that there is a lot of things that we didnt know on each other. I mean you can talk anything in the phone or YM see each other but knowing the person inside in and out, time is not enough.. Some say you can divorce her or him later if things did not worked out real good. But for me, I think when you enter marriage it is like a covenant, the most sacred at all because two people bind together to have families, and have the communities we are in today. So I wouldnt get married if I am nor sure with my feelings for him. It is two side of the coin also. sometimes, you thought you love her because you misses her but when shes around you dont feel the excitement at all because you just love the idea of being online and talking to someone..

hi,
I agree with you,I keep on asking my husband in all the words that I dont understand and I learned from it.I also practice everyday even just one word and pronounce it in their way.And also talking to other american who talks so fast really challenged me to talk in same way too.You know that we filipinas are so flexible and we can adapt americans lifestyle easily so I believe that we can deal with it.And Im proud to be a filipina especially the values we have....will you also agree with me?........jenny
I agree with you Jenny. I've been married now for 3 years and we have a son. It changed our lifestyle a little bit because when you have kid your time is limited but both of you will still have to talk and share things like you used to.

Hello there.
You may want to ask first, if you need to get a visa for your wife going to Europe. We both live and work in the Middle East, did apply in the embassy for the greencard, GOT approved and received it when we visit the US.
I did travel to Germany and I have a conditional greencard as well, but I need to have a visa..It does not mean that she have her greencard now she can travel anywhere... We are still considered Foreign National to other countries.. except asia we can visit for 30 days without a visa.
We did round the world travel just presenting my greencard and passport that's all..
She needs to change her passport to apply her married name to avoid complication in the end. She need to go to the nearest Philippine Embassy to update her passport or even just to add in the last page of her passport that she is carrying your name now.
Hope this helps.

I am sharing some of my experiences in my first year of marriage.. Hope this will help some of the americans and filipinos all over the world.
I was not really good in English language.. I mean I can write a nice email, post a nice article but I am not really confident talking english. I guess because I am with my co filipinos at all times and just speak english at work.
I did work in a lawfirm in Manila before coming to Kuwait to work at TGIF and that is where I met my husband 2004. I was scared to date Americans that time because of the bad impression they have for filipinos overseas.. Until I met my husband changed my beliefs..
!st year of marriage is the most challenging year in marriage I guess. But understanding each other cultures and belief takes a while for us to understand one another. Slang english adds up trying to understand some of the slang words.. Believe me there are times I was alone and writing all the new words I've heard from my husband everyday, when he is not around I do look at webster dictionary but cant find the exact meaning of the words he said.
We had several arguments that made us understand one another.... Sometimes some american speaks FAST, and forget that the person they were with, english language is not the first language... It does not mean that Filipino do not understand, but when someone talks fast all you can hear is blah. blah. blah But learn how to speak in the way that your partner can understand the language.. You can gauge someone ability to speak the way they talk to you...from then, you can analyze how you will make conversation with her. Try to be mellow and listen what she has to say..
And for filipina, always ask "what do you mean? why did you say that?? Always, always ask question if you dont understand.. not say yeah at all times.. even if you did not really understand at all.. Never assume something until you asked him and understand what he has to say....
To be continued ............. but hoping for your comments folks..

We as filipinos as having bad impression because of that. Living in the USA is not what we all think of.. I would rather say it is much easier to live in the Philippines or other country than US. My husband is american, been there in the US several times but will prefer to live in Philippines or Kuwait.
Sometimes pinays are taking a risk to marry someone just for them to come in the US. Seeking for a greener pasture... I am not generalizing people, but sometimes this is the reality.
I am just glad I met someone whom I dearly love so much..

I think she is just trying to protect her kids because of their ex. You know in any races whether US or Philippines, some couples end up in bad separation. Some think of revenge and some wanted their kids back to them.
Trust your wife.. Talk to her, there should be things that you and her need to discuss. You should know her fears and the things from the past so you know what to expect..and She should tell everything..

[/color]I received my greencard on 17 Nov 2006 and will expire this year. We both work for US company overseas. I filed N-400 (319 B) last March this year.
Wondering if there is any people that has the same situation.? Can you please share experiences?
Hi.
I applied under 319 (B) as well. My husband works overseas. I sent my paperwork in march 18th, with finger print cards that i did in the us embassy and we wrote 675 dollar check and all other........ paperwork.
They returned it saying fee was wrong, should be 595. But they had fingerprints opened so i do not think they were good after that.
So we wrote another check and i put all the same papers and send it back again.
So that all
sent april 2
received april 7
chek cashed april 9
NOA 1 received april 19
nothing since
share a little bit more about you?
Have you done your fingerprints ?
How long did it take to send the FD-258 to do them?
I sent my application on 9th March.
I received the the Notice of Acknowledgment 15th April. The letter stated that they will send me the refund because I sent $675 as what indicated in the instruction in the form. They said 365 days before I will get the interview.
I have included the fingerprints in the packet.
I did it at the US Embassy here in Kuwait.
But my dilemma is, I have to file Petition to remove condition on July because the expiration is on November.
How about you?
What kind of PR do you have? I have conditional
Hey
I had conditional as well.I had filed I-751, and it was pending over 1 year when i sent my N400 under 319 (B). Lately I had it approved and i received my 10 year greencard.
My understanding is that you are filling from overseas as well...
I think you would have your interview date by that time, hold on as long as you can, I-751 should be filed 90 days before your 2 year card expires, but you can file even 60 days before, you will gain one more month, and hopefully you will have interview by then. If your card expires say nov 10, account 90 days back, and that will be your date, closer to aug 10-15
Thing is, you have to have your valid greencard at the time of interview
question
Do you mean that NOA receipt for the petition will be okay to enter US if ever I get the chance to be interviewed first for N400? What if MAUNA ang interview ng N400 kesa sa Petition, how can I go back to the US?
So you send 675 and they did not return your check...
Mine said your appl. is returned because
1. fee is incorect, should be 595
2. when you will be available for interview, at least 4 month window after filing date(so i put july 15-20, july 25, just numbers)
3. it said we will send you letter to explain how to do fingeprints with FD258 forms......
Thing is I had my fingerprints also done at the embassy, and it was in special closed envelope, but USCIS opened it and sent my opened FD-258 cards back with whole package... can not understand why
I sent everything back with corect fee, even the opened fingerprints so I do not know if it was accepted.. or not
My understanding, they would not except opened FD-258cards even though they opened it....
I included a closed envelope that has my FP CARDS from the US embassy..
The letter I received from them stated that they will send a check to the address I provided, if there is any changes on the address, notify the office within 30 days.
The will send notification if they will need more documents from me. I guess they have different people who review the packet..

If my wife travels back home to the philippines while 6 months pregnant as a permanent resident, how will the child gain citizenship even if shes not a citizen yet? Any advice?
I gave birth to my son in Kuwait and he has 2 passport, US and PI.
You just have to report his birth. Submit his birth certificate along with your documents... Tell your wife to call the nearest embassy.
