  1. Good morning from a very cold and snowy Boston! I was wondering if anyone is able to offer me some advice regarding this topic. I filed my EAD and form I485 for adjustment of status on 10th Nov 2025. I had my biometrics appointment on 29th Dec 2025 for both of these. I have my appointment for my interview for my green card scheduled for the 2nd week in February. My understanding was that if I filed my work authorization it would arrive earlier than my green card enabling me to apply for jobs and find employment. As I thought the green card itself enables me to work and travel as well, as being in the US legally. My question I guess is have I wasted my money applying for the employment authorization document? From looking at timelines it looks like some people received their EAD within 30 days of applying for it ( I am aware that there has been Veterans Day, Thanks giving, Christmas, New Year and MLKJ day since when I applied and now) but I’ve also seen ( and hope it’s true) that if approved , people receive their green cards within 2 weeks of having their interviews. I understand that this may not always be the case and depends on the number of cases going through the system but based on the dates for the appointments I’m getting my situation aligns with this pattern. Im just wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience of this?
  2. Thanks for the responses. I'm already on the trip as I left my home location on Monday on a road trip for the holidays so trying to reschedule prior to leaving is not an option. All my family think I should keep the appointment in order to prevent any potential delays. So it looks like I'm heading back home on Dec 26th instead of Dec 28th like I'd originally planned. I'd also like to get my employment authorization ASAP so thats another reason for keeping this biometrics appointment. I think I might skip re filing the I 131 hopefully that decision won't come back to haunt me. Thanks again
  3. Filed I meant sorry .. I paid $520, I've just found out also my biometrics appointment has been scheduled for 29th December in Boston, Im currently on my way to Florida on a road trip with my parents and I wasn't planning to set off on my drive back until 28th Dec. I'm not sure I want to reschedule my appointment as I don't want to rock the boat and would like my authorisations asap. But I'm going to have to cut my holiday celebrations short in order to return home.
  4. Hello forum friends, Anyone able to figure out what is happening here: So I filled my I-485, my I-765 and my I-131 all together. I have receipts for my I-485 and I-765 but my I -131 came back today rejected. It has been rejected because “ the payment amount does not match the required amount” I did not include any payment due to the USCIS website stating “Do not pay the immigration parole fee when you submit Form I -131 to USCIS. Beginning on Oct 16 2025, if you are in the United States and we determine that we can approve your request for parole or re parole and that it requires payment of the immigration parole fee, we will notify you that you must pay this fee before we can approve the request. So I’m confused… however my I-485 is being processed, I’m thinking is it worth spending $1000 for the parole fee or should I just wait till my green card is approved? ( which hopefully it will be) Anyone any experience of this to advise me further? thank you Lesley
  5. Thanks everyone for commenting. I received a text today confirming reciept of my i485 and that my I-797c will follow in the mail…. I’m beyond happy!!!
  6. Hello wonderful forum friends, me again. I'm hoping someone can help as my timeline is getting narrower and I'm starting to panic!! So I'm in the US, I'm here on my K1, I'm married to my wonderful husband. I've sent my i485 (work permit and travel permit) in. Here are my dates for clarity. Entered the US 15 Sept 25 Married 10 Oct 25 Posted forms received at PO box for USCIS 11 Nov 25. My question is how long roughly does it take to receive the NOA1 for the I485 as my K1 expires on 13th December!!! I also included the form with my phone number and email address so they can notify me electronically that they have received my paperwork. But to date as of 23 November I've heard nothing. Further to this I had no clue I had an A number so left all my forms blank of it. Then I saw it on our I129F approval ( well I think it is as it's a number with an A at the front above my name - but it doesn't actually state what it is and it was on the notice that was posted to my husband so I had never actually physically seen this piece of paper before) I only saw after is posted the forms!! Please help, I'm concerned I'm going to have to go back to the UK. My husband and I have been working really hard on setting up our lives together here. I feel very anxious. Thank you Lesley
  7. Hello visa community friends, I am after some help again…. I entered the US on 15th September and married my Fiancé on 10th October ( I am a British citizen). Our marriage license has been sent to the city hall ( last Tuesday) and I’m awaiting my marriage certificate copies to arrive. I have a US bank account already. I am wanting advice about my driving license, my husband and I are looking to purchase a car together in the next week or so. My question is, should I await my marriage certificate to avoid having to change my name on my drivers license or should I just get on with the drivers license process. I am in Boston, Massachusetts and will have to do a written exam and a physical test in my own car from what I can gather. I just don’t really want to waste any time as we have a lot to do. if anyone has any tips for someone newly married, changing their name to their spouses name and trying to navigate their first few months in the US I’d be very grateful. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Lesley
  8. I have to have a document check at the embassy straight after my medical
  9. Hi guys, I have my medical for my K1 visa this coming Friday, I’ve just been going through my documents doing a final check and I’ve noticed they want the affidavit and IRS documents with me when I attend. I have the IRS that’s no issue, we have the I 134 document, my question is where does my fiancé submit this completed form and his bank statements? my understanding is that I have a copy of the form with me but he has to submit it somewhere, is that correct? Or are we submitting that at my physical document check? Any help is much appreciated, the document check just says I require the I 134 and the IRS it doesn’t mention his bank statements or proof of pension etc. Many thanks Lesley
  10. If that's NOA2 ? 14th March
  11. Thanks for this I'll try to sort out payment. I just find it so complicated!! It's really not easy to follow at all. For you info the rules have changed about booking medical first. I rang up last week and was told I can't book the medical until I have a date for my interview/ interview booked. This is a recent change.
