  1. I did not know where to put this, so please move if needed but I need help, and I need it quite quickly. I am sending my kids to Oslo in two days to get their CRBAs and American passports. For this I need to fill out a ds3053 since I cannot go with them. This needs to be notraized. I am running out of time because I asked their dad what he needed from me and he just said to send my physical (norwegian) passport to prove I am a citizen. I took his word for that, but remembered a discussion here in the forum last year so I looked it up and found out about the form I needed. On that post someone also linked notarize.com which says. "On-Demand 24/7 US Notaries Serving Norway Notarize a document from Norway in a matter of minutes" Super! I was filling out all the information but then i got to the point of putting in my address and then a US address is required. I asked customer support and you need to be tied to a US address. So that just does not work. Does anyone know any online notary services that would be valid at a US embassy without having a US address?
  2. I looked it up today and it says this now. "On February 20, 2025, we sent your case to the Department of State for visa processing." Our application was approved on january 31st. Is this when the average wait time starts?
  3. I have concerns for my embassy and how long it will take to get my case number. But there is not much we can do about it other than to be patient. But yeah.. I do worry that I will run into trouble trying to schedule an interview in Sweden, they already handle cases from a few other countries. But it might be different where you are. But I have no idea when you first filed and where you are in the process, might be good if you update your timeline.
  4. My kids are half american, so while they will be moving with me and have never lived in the US, they do not need a K2. I plan to homeschool my youngest while my oldest will be going to highschool. Most of my research has been about homeschooling, because I am not familiar with it. I find it quite difficult to know what to do about HS because we do not know when we will be moving yet. But you can look up school information about the state you are moving to, that is probably a good start.
  5. That sounds pretty good! I am just anxious to schedule my medical and interview asap, because I worry that changes will make me not be able to for many months after I reach this step. So even if I would not schedule it before probably May or june if possible, I just want it on the books.
  6. Do they take the copy for their records, or do they just want to see it in person?
  7. My embassy has already had to take on cases from a lot of new countries starting recently, so I am worried that I won’t be able to schedule my interview for months and months once my case reaches them. >_<
  8. the form is pretty straightforward. we looked up a youtube video about the documentation, it was very useful because the instructions are not as set in stone. help making a packet, putting together photos and such. but always refer to official websites and quadruple check the info everywhere!
  9. We got January 31st! No emails yet though, I only know because we paid for trackmyvisa. I know my fiance added the email thing to the application, but he says he has never gotten any emails so maybe it didnt work.
  10. My fiance shops at Hannafords, although when we stayed with him for the summer we sometimes would go to Marked Basket instead. I love trying things from Trader Joes. ^^
  11. Hmm, maybe I can make that work then. There is only one hospital in all of Norway that I can go to, I emailed them last month to ask about their wait times and they just told me to try to book as early as possible, but since we just got our NOA2 and the case still needs to be sent to state and then the embassy I have no idea the timeline and I cannot make any appointments yet. But it would be nice to be able to try to schedule an appointment so that I could travel here - oslo - stockholm - oslo - back home instead of two completely separate trips, especially because I have family in Oslo I can stay with while I wait or something, to give it a few days. Do you have any information about booking interview slots in Stockholm? Someone mentioned to me that they had to pick a date a few months into the future. I am really hoping we can move this summer, but if I have to wait a couple of months just to get my case number and then wait a few months to get an appointment that is looking less likely. Mostly I want it because I have two kids that are school aged, and it would be nice if they got some time to "land" stateside before starting school in the fall.
  12. Sometimes not even that, I gotta go to another country for mine. XD
  13. Oh wow. XD I am norwegian, so I have to go to Oslo for my medical and then Stockholm for the interview. I have to take a plane to Oslo, so it would obviously be easier (and cheaper) if I could go to Oslo, stay a few days, go straight to Stockholm to my interview, but I am too worried about them not having the results to do that. XD
  14. So my norwegian passport expires in november 2025. My passport number is registered in my application, and I still have an active ESTA that is good until july this year. I will be visiting for 2 weeks in april, but the passport still has more than 6 months left at that time, so I assume that will be fine. My best bet is probably to get a new passport right as I get back, and luckily it will probably arrive pretty quickly after, I have had it in hand after a week previously. Is changing the passport number at this point going to mess with my application or delay anything? The way I understand it I obviously have to bring it and leave it when I go to my interview in Stockholm, and then they put a physical thing in it to show my K1 visa, right? I probably should have done this last year before I even applied for the visa, that was an oversight on my part. 😕
  15. Hi. 😃 Hopefully I put this in the right area of the forums. I am moving to the USA on a K1 hopefully sometime later this year. My kids are about to get american passports and ssns beause their dad is an american and they will be dual citizens. We are moving together to live with my partner in the USA, and I just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with what sort of documentation I should bring from their dad, showing that he consents to the move? How does it work with insurance and taxes over there? Their father is american, but he does not live in the US and has not for many many years, and I have full custody of the children. Would a translated version of our custody agreement and a signed consent letter be enough? He lives far away at the moment so getting things signed is kinda hard, but the kids are going to the american embassy in Norway this month to get their papers, so I have a chance to get him to sign stuff and would like to prepare for that as much as possible. Would I be better off paying for an online notary service for these things? Thanks.
  16. Thank you guys for your input, that is very helpful! Our case got approved today, but the estimates sound like they will work out the way we want them to, so I guess we will just see how long it takes to get to Sweden. XD
  17. I know that it will take a few weeks or more for the papers to be sent to state and get the case number and all that, but is there a timeline for when you /should/ send in the DS-160 and schedule medical/interview? We seem to be closing in on them getting to the application (i know something might delay this, but all signs point to things happening within the next month or so). The reason I ask is that I have a trip coming up early in april, and I wonder if maybe I should wait to schedule things until after? Or maybe I am being silly, I dont know. I wish there was more data on how fast I will be able to get an interview in sweden, but there are not a lot of scandis on this site. 😅
  18. Currently there are 698 cases between you and the front of the line. When you started, there were 8 697! Look at where we are, look at where we started! XD
  19. I have a trip coming up in April. The one in october was supposed to be my last, but it was absolutely thrown off because he lost his job while I was there, so we did not get to do a lot of preparations. I am almost nervous about it, since things seem to be speeding up, but with a house, job and two kids at home I hope I can make the case that I obviously do not plan to just stay when we are getting close to getting the visa. 😅
  20. What are some reasons people fail the medical? A danger to yourself or others, illegal drug use, highly contagious diseases like TB, those are pretty straight forward, but are there any gray areas? For instance, after my abrupt separation in 2020, where my ex husband left me and my kids and moved far away in the early pandemic, I seeked help through a therapist and was put on sick leave. I went to therapy for a few years, and I suppose I technically still have a general anxiety and depression diagnosis on record, but I am not medicated or suicidal. I never went back to my old work, but I am currently enrolled in school to find a job better suited to me. Are these things that can become a problem? Like I said, I ended therapy and I am getting through school just fine, but I receive money from the state for this, until I can get another job. Also other things.. like general health, are there things people get in trouble for?
  21. It took a bit, but I have an update! My fiance got another job with the same pay and benefits, so we are back to the original plan, full force! We bought a month of trackmyvisa, and it does look like this might take a while, longer than we first anticipated. Estimates were saying NOA2 by december-january, but the website is showing february-march. So that is a shame. But I have a lot of work to do: finish school (only a few weeks left), sell or rent my house, do some more research on homeschooling my youngest. Things have been tough, but we made it through and I am very happy that he is coming here to spend christmas with us and staying until my birthday in january. ^-^ Edit: I made a thread somewhere else and forgot I didnt update this one, but he lost his job and things were looking bad because obviously we could not keep up with the application. But luckily it worked out. ^-^
  22. Mine keeps being wrong in the email when I compare it to what I see on my timeline here. So I would not use it to plan too much, or get my hopes up. That being said that might also be because my consulate is not a very common one on the site, but we filed before you guys and it keeps telling me there is not enough data to give me a timeline.
  23. The waiting is fine. At the moment it is to my benefit that this isnt going fast, actually. I am just confused and a bit annoyed at the visajourney website sending me inaccurate timeline estimates. But maybe something is happening, and then it recalculates and doesnt want to give me info due to a lack of simmilar timelines or something.
  24. Anyone else keep getting timeline updates from visajourney that are very different than the timeline on your page on the website?
  25. A small but crappy part about it is the constant emails I get from visajourney about an update to my timeline. It is never right, the other week it told me my application was approved (lol) and I checked the forum timeline and it says there arent enough cases. Today I got another update that said januar 2025, but then I log on here and it says not enough applications for a timeline again. 😕
