If I said that people from Romania are cons, and that they shouldn't be trusted, that would be wrong. Coz just because Romania has been stereotyped in many different ways shouldn't make the whole country a bad country or their entire population untrustworthy. The US, like many countries, is a great country, and that is my opinion. I like the opportunity it has provided me and millions of other naturalized citizens.

20 Million illegal immigrants are a strong enough percentage and proof that many consider the US a place they will do whatever they can to live in. And those 20 million illegals are not just from Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala etc. A good percentage got on a plane and came to live in the US and refused to leave. 20 Million people is equivalent to the population of some countries. Some people swear their allegiance to this country during their US citizenship ceremony and then come and bash the same country here on VJ.

Especially when they say, "it is better for the children" Is it now?!! And the ones who say that countries in Europe or Asia or Australia have a "better this or that". If I was your American born spouse and you said such things about my country, I would be pissed. The truth is you, the beneficiary, are probably dying to come see this great country. I came to the US 14 years ago. I love the US just as much as I love my home country, and I spend time in both countries. I now have roots/family in both countries. I am grateful to be here. The US is not a country like other countries where there is a majority religion. The US has many many religions, Muslim, Catholic Christian, Mormon, Budhists, Jewish/Judaism and many many more. Choose which religion you are, say Christian. Would you want your child to be made to pray a Muslim prayer in their school? If you are Muslim, would you want your child to be made to pray a Christian prayer in their school? If you are Catholic (who don't believe in salvation) would you want your child to be indocrinated with salvation talk. In my opinion, religion is parental responsibility, not the schools. Keep religion (any religion) out of school and you will not be accused of indoctrinating someone elses child with your personal beliefs.

As an American I can say you're welcome to go somewhere else if you're just going to b!tch about the country you're so desperately seeking to either come to or bring a spouse to.
You know, I've been seeing a lot of America bashing threads recently on this board. I know everyone is frustrated with our immigration process -- I am too (and I'm American by birth-- family has been here for at least 500 years, no lie). However, if all you guys can do it talk ####### about the country you're either trying to move to or are trying to bring your spouse to, why don't you look into another country??? You don't HAVE to deal with "pigheaded Americans" or our "lack of health care" or "snide remarks." No one is holding a gun to your head and saying "MOVE TO AMERICA." So.... calm down. Stop bashing the US. Seriously. It's getting really old.

I disagree. VAWA was enacted with help from women advocacy groups. Women are the ones who pushed then Sen. Joe Biden to bring it to law. For you to say that VAWA was made as some sort of bias is incorrect. That VAWA benefits men and battered children of USC proves that it is not a biased law. It would be biased if it was covering women only but not men. If it weren't for women advocacy groups, VAWA would not be law today. Men should participate in advocacies that protect the rights of men like the women groups do. Don't let us (women) do all the work and then complain that we are biased against men, when we push congress to protect us, especially when you get to enjoy the benefits of our hard work.

I've heard of immigrants being mistreated and petitioners being used for immigration benefits or mistreated. This is not a black and white issue. We have some cases where people have had bad intentions in both directions, and yet plenty of cases where it just didn't work out. When the heart is hurt, its hard to say how you'll react. Even if there is a legitimate reason to want to send someone back, that person would do much better just forgetting it and moving on with their life. There's also the case of petitioners poorly treating spouses or potential spouses and refusing to help that person return when they want to. There is every mix under the sun that will come through here. I'm just glad there appear to be more happy cases than sad ones. Or maybe I just prefer to believe there are more happy?
