  1. I was checking the USCIS website to see the status of my application and I noticed a touch on my I-485 saying the same message I got last week when I was approved at the interview... I wonder when my green card will be arriving in the mail though.

When I got home I found the NOAS for my I-485 (welcome letter) and the I-130 in the mail, so that was cool.

My question is do you guys know how long it takes for immigration services to send out the green card. I'm getting a bit anxious since we'll be changing addresses very soon. We told the immigration officer about our change of sddress at the interview but she told me to wait a couple of weeks for the green card before filing the form AR-11.

  2. We did plan on doing k1 then circumstances changed with the pregnancy and loss that happened when my SO was here in January, in fact my divorce was not filed much less finalized BEFORE he came here in January therefore we could have no intent on marrying when he entered the country . I know its tough for all of us to be separated from our loved ones, we have friends that are going through this and we were completely prepared to go through it ourselves. Yet as i have stated things changed and I could not have survived physically and emotionally without my SO here with me to take care of me and my 3 year old daughter. This was our decision and i do not see why us or anyone else for that matter should "pay the price" for filing AOS from here. If we had planned this to avoid the "waiting game" and committed fraud then yes i could understand the anger in people that are waiting for the K1 but for people that are legitimately filing AOS after deciding to get married in the US, i think there are other things to worry about like people that are not in true relationships etc... we are all in the same situation one way or another and should be here to support each other and not criticize one another... i wish everyone good luck on their journey

I totally agree with you. USCIS is most concern about the relationship being genuine. Thats all that matters, do not be affected by narrow minded people. AOS for those who did not go through k1 or k3 is not ILLEGAL and PROHIBITED! So cheer up and good luck to you.

    Thumbs up to that!

  3. From the time you got engaged in July 2007 and your marriage in March 2008, was your husband in the US the entire time?

\No he was not , he was here a few months 2 x and i was in England once. Funny story about the engagement .. i said yes because we were in front of thousands of people but then after we decided that it would not be right to be engaged until my divorce was final so he reproposed to me the night before our wedding .... it was pretty silly really

You may have a problem then. Here's why... After you got engaged in July 2007, he went back home. He then came back on VWP I assume with the INTENT to marry and file for residency which amounts to visa fraud. It's quite clear what the intent was, so you will most likely have to explain yourselves. Taking the easy way out isn't always easier.

There is nothing to say that he had intent to marry and file for residency on his second trip back....as the OP stated she was surprised w/ a proposal at a live concert, but afterwards the couple decided to not be officially engaged until she was divorced. In effect then, the OPs (now) husband had no INTENT other than visit his love when he entered a second time. Jumping to conclusions isn't always easier either.

    -P

Riiight.... they didn't plan on taking the k-1 route, or even the k-3 route. That tells me exactly what their intent was. And the fact that he left the country and then came back already engaged tells me that this was planned. They are trying to circumvent the visa rules, for whatever reason, and I hope they pay the price. The rest of us have to wait months and months and they get to do it the easy way...

We cannot really judge their intent at the POE based upon the little information given on this post. Everybody has different situations and circumstances. I did AOS from VWP and I did not have intention of immigration when I entered the U.S. The question was never asked at the interview however I was very prepared and had enough proof with me. This forum should be informative not condoning. Let's just help the couple instead of jumping to conclusions. My two cents...

  4. AOS APPROVED!!!

Hi Everyone! I was just approved on my AOS. I was interviewed yesterday in Los Angeles Federal Bldg.

The lady was nice. We were just interviewed for about less than 15minutes. She just checked all the requirements.

Then she gave me the approval letter. My wife and I were so happy. Hopefully we can get the 10yr green card since

we've been married for over 3yrs now.

If you are going to LA for interview please do not bring your camera with you. Leave it in the car.

Goodluck to everyone.

CONGRATS!! I was interviewed there last Wednesday, maybe we had the same lady? Ours was just awesome!

    Congrats and enjoy it!!!

  5. I'm so sorry for your loss.

To be honest, it is a tricky situation but if I was you I would go for the interview and explain the situation to the immigration officer who can just stamp the passport with the I-511 (if you guys get approved). That way he'll be free to go instead of re-scheduling the interview adding more time to your AOS process and go through the hassle of using the AP. Just my two cents!

    Wishing you all the luck!

  6. how long do you have to wait before you can drive in the usa!

i am 22 never drove in uk! so i will have to learn in the usa!!

do i have to wiat for the Green card or can i learn just with a SSN ??

any help would be great :)

You can apply for your drivers license as soon as you get the EAD and therefore the SSN. It is so easy to drive especially if you choose automatic. good luck with it though!

  7. Receipt Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

    Current Status: Card production ordered.

On October 8, 2008, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

Just a quickie, I got approved at my interview yesterday. I just checked the USCIS website and this is what I found. However I never got an e-mail. No biggie.

I checked the status of my I-130 and it still says "Case Received and Pending", is this normal???

On another note do you know how long does it normally take for the GC to arrive in the mail?

    Thank you in advance!

  8. It varies from person to person, but often people do get a series of emails about the approval.

We got the "Card production ordered" email about 12 hours after our successful interview. About 24 hours after that, we got the "Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident" email. And one week later, we got the "Approval notice sent" email (that's the one with the green card in it).

Congrats   and good luck with getting the green card fast!

(By the way, after the biometrics our case was touched the next day, then no touches or emails till the card production ordered one. That is fairly common from what I read here on VJ.)

Thanks so much for the input! like you i only got on touch after Biometrics and that is it. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a surprise on my inbox!

    Take care and thanks again!

  9. Since you interviewed for AOS this indicates that the field office handled the case, in that case more than likely the field office did not report every time they touched the file, like an adjudicator would if the petition was handled at a service center.

Gotcha! I guess I was worrying for nothing :P

So would I be getting any other mail alongside the green card or not?

And thanks so much for the prompt response by the way!

  10. Hi guys, my AOS was approved this morning at the interview. The immigration officer gave me the congratulations letter and told me I shall be receiving my green card in the mail shortly as well as other relevant information.

However I have checked online and my application has not been touched since April 2008. Is this normal? Not that it matters really since I passed my interview and i got the letter but just wondering to myself since I have read on this forum about people getting e-mails from CRIS shortly after being approved.

Thanks in advance for the input!

  11. Congratulations! Thanks for posting this, it makes me feel better as I also entered on a tourist visa (VWP) and we have our interview in 2 weeks time. I had no intent to stay and we have nothing to hide, so hopefully all will go ok for us too.

I'm sure you'll do great! I came straight from the UK to the US for Crimbo vacation to intent to go back to London but things just happened to change ;-)

Make sure to prepare everything and be very organized and please do keep me posted I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! AL THE BEST MATE!

  12. Just a quick message to let you know I just got back from my AOS interview here in Los Angeles and I'm approved!!!

I'm so happy! I can really say my immigration process has been painless. Considering I entered as a tourist everything has gone just right! I can't be more grateful to this forum for all the help, support and encouragement.

My interview was fast, we spent a lot of time in the waiting room though. The immigration officer was friendly, sweet and professional. She congratulated me for preparing such a great package!

We brought tons of more evidence with us and she didn't need to see any of it, she said what we submitted was sufficient.

That was all really, no intent questions were asked, she only asked about our address, phone numbers where and when we met and if I have ever been arrested prior to handed me the congratulations letter.

My advice to others in the same situation is to be prepared and organized, to tell the truth and if you don't have anything to hide and your relationship is legit you should be ok.

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!

  14. Hi everyone , August 23rd was the interview , it was approved , was told the visa would get delivered in a 3-5 day timeframe , today is the 5th day , and yes I counted the stupid bank holiday which was monday . We have called the courier phone all day and it repeatedly gives a voice recording then hangs up on you. We are leaving in a week to get married . I am heartbroken , and I have no idea what to do , any comments would be deeply appreciated . Please tell me what to do .

I come from London myself and all I can say is NEVER TRUST THE ROYAL MAIL. I'm sure they already have a backlog of mail due to the bank holiday weekend. Do not worry I'm sure your visa will turn up shortly, give it a couple more days and if it doesn't show up call the U.S consulate for information.

    All the best!
