Paumanhin sa lahat ng napangakuan ko ng POE experience, got so busy the past days kaya super late na ito... but as the old over use adage goes: Better late than never.
DAVAO/Sept 2: Crying, crying and more crying as we bid our final goodbye to our family and relatives @ the airport... I was never asked for any travel documents for my kids. I just showed them my kids passports and our tickets and that was it.
MANILA/Sept 4: Same thing in Davao, I was not asked to present any travel documents for my kids except for the passports and visa. No permit from DSWD or anything not even birth certificates. Everything had been very smooth for us. the only thing that was a little frustrating was knowing that all the NWA tickets bought before August 2008 was supposed to have 72lbs baggage weight allowance for each of the 2 free baggage for each ticketed passengers... We had 6 checked in luggage (2 for each of us: me and the 2 kids) weighing 22kgs or less, I spent time making sure it will not go beyond the new baggage policy, had I known I was not covered by that yet(bought ticket first week of june), I would have brought so much more
.
DETROIT/Sept 4: Arrived safe and sound after the long flight from Manila to Nagoya to Detroit. Had to lined up in the visitors line coz the Filipina lady assisting new arrivals insisted that fiancee visa holders and even new immigrants are still considered visitors... Lo and behold we were asked to transfer to another line after a few minutes of lining up. The immigration officer looked at our papers for awhile then asked a few questions then he told me to go to the special immigration section (the blue line- 3rd time lining up) where a few new immigrants were already lined up. When it was our turn, the immigration officer asked me why we were sent there and I told him the other officer told me it was for the re-verification of our packets. The new immigration officer browsed through our papers and then told me to go to a lady officer who in turn gave me a number to call so my kids could get new skin test and xray. After that she let us go and wished us well.
All in all, our travel had been ok, no hassles and we met a few good samaritans who helped us with our carry ons and also met a few filipinos who was so game to go with us and ride the detroit aiport tram (a small train inside the aiport that travels from one end to the other) just for fun
.. I felt God has been holding us in His protective hands every step of the way.
The reception we received from the people here are so overwhelming. All the relatives was even there for my son's birthday party 2 days after our arrival (Ricky's mom organize the birthday party which was also our welcome party).. some of the relatives even gave my daugther gifts also just so she wouldn's feel left out.. and I received kitchen wares which was already arranged in our house before we arrived, they even stocked up rice and other things just for us. Even Ricky was amazed by the gestures of everybody especially his mom who never cared for any of his ex-wives before... Words simply could not describe my gratitude for everybody here... even up to now, 9 days after our arrival, we are still recieving special additional gifts from Ricky's relatives... be it be additional bed sheets, curtains, fetching the kids, etc.
The kids have started school last tuesday and their new teachers and new classmates have welcomed them warmly... my son even received straight A's for his school work this week.. I just hope it continues to be so for the rest of the year.
There are still so many things to do.. so many things to prepare here... I will probably be very busy for the next few weeks and still won't be able to be on vj as often as I would have wanted to be. Ricky has gone back to work, we moved our wedding date to november to allow for more time for preparation.... I still wash by hands, Ricky has made a clothesline for me coz I told him I don't want to waste the NC sunshine and it will also help save electricity... had salted dried fish early this morning (Ricky tried it even if he totally disliked the smell).. had salted eggs yesterday... visited the filipino store in raleigh last sunday.. visited grand asian store also so at least I am not really missing out on filipino foods here... the kids are adjusting just fine and the best thing is me and Ricky are really working on improving our relationship before we say "I do".. yes our wait is extended but we are hoping and praying that it will be for the very best.
Thanks to everybody who has shared our journey with us..I am not saying goodbye to VJ, just taking a short vacation for awhile (there is just a lot of cleaning up to do and fixin up of stuffs here. How can a man live alone for years
) I wish everybody the best of luck and prayers in whatever step of visa process you are in right now.
God bless everyone... till next time. (((HUGS)))

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering, for those who arrived in the US with a K3 visa, how long did you wait before you can have your work permit?
Thanks for the replies.
Hi! I think u can apply anytime once you get here in the US, I got here last June 23 and I applied for my EAD on the following month July 10 and then I had my biometrics last Aug 27, so it's 2 months now since my application, I know EAD will take 3 months the maximum so I will still wait until Oct 10 for my EAD approval
-
Hi everyone Im a bit confused here could I possibly file EAD without filing my AOS or is there any form I could use aside from I485?
I need your help.
Since you're K3, yes, you can apply for EAD first in order for you to work, but you need to pay $340.00 or EAD application, it's more expensive because if you file the AOS and EAD together I think you only need to pay $1010.00 (not sure about the exact amount but AOS fee is around this amount)the $340.00 for EAD is included there, I know that because that's what we did, we just filed for EAD first and file the AOS sometime next year, I suggest you download the link for the EAD application under K3 here in VJ. Just an update on my EAD appl, I just had my biometrics last Aug 27th and waiting now for my Ead card.

Time has flown so swiftly. 3 months after receiving our visa my kids and I will finally be leaving our hometown, our birthplace, our family and friends. This will be my last post which will originate in Tagum City, Philippines... Congrats to all the approval, all the visa and all the happy reunions... Good success to all who are going for medical and interview soon.
So far we have had 4 separate despidida (farewell party) already. One courtesy of our cell group in church (august 17), then one from the women's in our church (august 24), one from the kids teachers and classmates in school(august 29), and one held here in our house last night... now that I think about it, i am wondering if these people connived to make sure we do leave and not come back again that is why they planned so many different despidida
.
I have cried barrels of tears already and I don't wanna cry some more. so, last night, I tried cracking up jokes everytime someone would give their well wishes for us. For the most part, I was successful in turning a mushy speech to one tinged with laughter but some of the guest just started crying (the ones really really close to me) when they were about to leave... gosh, I hate it when somebody cries coz I can't help but cry myself... and jokes just can't stop the tears from flowing.
Tomorrow, me and the kids will be off to Manila so we could go to CFO on Sept 3.. then finally off to North Carolina on Sept 4.... but before leaving, I will still be meeting two of my closest friends who are based in manila. One is a cry baby so I am sure it will be another tear filled get together. As they both said, even if we don't see each other that much at least we are all in the Philippines, just an hour by plane away... yeah, they already made me cry from the first moment I told them we got our visa and we'd be leaving in a few months
My relationship with my fiance has survived, flourished and got stronger in the past 3 years inspite of the distance... I am sure, the mountains and the oceans will never truly separate me from my family and friends here... months and years of separation will never severe the family ties and the bond of friendship that I have forged with them for decades.
I hate goodbyes.... but I also welcome "WARM HELLOs"... and I know, though we are saying farewell to our friends and family here, we will also be saying Hello to our new family and new friends in N.C.
As one of my kid's friend said, it is not goodbye but "Au Revoir, till we see each other again.".. and kita-kits na lang sa friendster.
Hello Gay, I just wish you and your kids goodluck, I know you will be happy here in the US, and I know your fiance is really, really happy to be reunited with you, imagine, he waited for you for three years, wow! He really loves you, I wish you both happiness Gay, May God bless your marriage too, Welcome to the US Gay.
P.S, Pakikamusta mo ako kay Rose (dora2x) pag nagkita kayo sa North Carolina ha.

Hello guys! Specially to the people who had their biometrics done in Honolulu, well, we just filed for Ead last july and we paid the fee of $340 for it too, about two weeks ago we received an appointment letter for biometrics in Honolulu this coming Aug 27, so we have to fly there since we're living here in Maui, my question is, do we need to pay anything about biometrics, let's say biometrics fee if we go there or everything is included in $340? Thanks guys in advance for your replys, Mahalo!
Pricilla
Are you adjusting status also? [i-485]
Honolulu trys to set it up so you don't have to make a bunch of trips. Get them to stamp the EAD in your passport while your there.
Nope, we're just applying for the EAD first, and then SSN and maybe 5 months from now we'll apply for AOS, thanks for reminding me to get a stamp for my passport, do you think they will ask for another payment for the biometrics when we go there? Thank you so much.

Hello fellow Philippine VJers!! I don't see too many of the familar folks from our time through the immigration wringer in '06 and '07, but nevertheless here's an exciting announcement of great joy and celebration for all, whether your journey is nearing it's end or just now beginning!! Our brand new little girl was born very late on July 1. Ester Faith weighed in at 6 lb 12 oz and was about 20" long. Her mom is very tan, dark hair and brown eyes. I'm very fair (German and Danish descent), very blonde and green eyes. Guess what we got?? Yep, kinda tannish, dark hair, but maybe not really dark, and brown eyes, we think...She is beautiful, and most importantly, healthy. Yes, there is much to celebrate. We are planning our first trip back to Leyte next spring for introductions to her lolo and lola and otherwise very large family.
All in all, Milah Jean is doing great, following her pregnancy and c-section, and overall since her arrival in the US in April 07. I'm still amazed at how well she has adapted. But she is still the same in every way.
Regarding another recent topic here, she has added a few pounds, but mostly due to her mommy condition. When she arrived last year I couldn't help but notice how she'd eat and and eat and eat, but not the junk food. She loves fruits mostly. We'd sit down to dinner every night, which usually was and still is a mostly Philippine style meal with rice and much of her favorities, and she'd just shove it in as fast as she could. I understood very quickly that she had NEVER in her life ever had access to so much, so naturally the reaction would be to grab what you can fast for fear you won't have the chance ever again. It was difficult for her to stop, until she was stuffed to the gills, followed by misery. Can you imagine what it must feel like to be really full for the first time in your life??? She was really tiny when she arrived, and still hasn't gained too much weight. I enjoyed watching her. It brought tears to my eyes to see her enjoy the bounty that the Lord provides. She was grateful for not having to fear where tomorrow's meal will come from. She often shares tales of her life with me, and I am so moved always. Even today when we prepare a big meal for just us, we think of how wonderful it would be to share with her family. Anyway, to all who have similar backgrounds, eat. Don't worry about it now. Too much too fast will cause weight gain for sure, but you need to learn this by living, too. This, too, is part of adjusting to a new life.
Enjoy life all!! Mine has never been better than it is now. I am blessed.
Michael and Milah Jean
wow! such a very nice and inspiring message about your new baby and wife, I hope we'll get one beautiful baby too soon, congratulations on your beautiful baby another filam future actress

Hello Edna, aloha! Welcome here in the beautiful island of Maui, a place where they called paradise, and it is indeed right? Sabi ko naman sa yo napakaganda lalo na ng sorroundings dito everywhere you turn you will be amazed, sorry now lang kc ko nag log in sa VJ been busy for like weeks na yata di ko tuloy nabasa yung first posting mo na you got your visa now, I'm always hanging out kc with my husband now that he's back in school, I met few filipina teachers there and they've been so nice to me, welcoming me and now I don't feel sad anymore kc finally I was able to talk to a fellow filipino here, sabi nga nila, there are a lot of filipinos here, yung lang nga you have to approach them and ask if they are filipino kc yung iba mixed hawaiins or marshallese but they look filipino too, yung others naman they grew up here kaya di na ring marunong magtagalog, pero you know my nose is "bleeding" na rin ka e-english dito everywhere kc dapat english language mo pati sa bahay yung hubby ko minsan di ko maintindihan yung english nya kc slang, buti na lang lagi nya ko ask if naintindihan ko then he'll repeat it and then slowly na, tpos lagi nya din me teach how to pronounce words na american accent ba, kc iba daw english accent natin mga pinoy, he's right para nga naman maintindihan din nila tayo diba, tapos lagi nya din correct grammar ko but in a nice way naman, tama yun for me, important talaga now that we're here in the US, we have to talk or speak like them in order for us live and work here successfully diba sis? So, enjoy sightseeing ka muna sis ha, ako medyo sanay na kc one month na ko dito but everyday lalo na pag may bago place or another island kmi punta I can't help padin to be amazed sa ganda ng mga places dito pati birds dito ang gaganda and minsan halos lumalapit pa sila sayo, pati nga pala sa honolulu when we went there sobrang ganda din, dun sa famous waikiki beach dami din magaganda tao everywhere na naka bikina lang...he.he.he..sana may friendster ka, I posted my pics there pati beautiful sorroundings dun nasa friendster ko, para makita mo, but I'm sure makakapunta ka din dun sa honolulu, tell your fiance punta kayo dun, 30mins lang by plane, kaya calling ANN(Jego-Ryu) bilisan mo na punta dito para malaman mo din ang ganda ng maui at ng buong hawaii at mag reunion tayong tatlo ha...he.he...he. keep in-touch ka naman din Ann ha..,,, cge Edna, just call me or email me ha....again enjoy your stay here and Aloha!

Hello Priscilla! My name is Edna. I am soo excited na to see you too in person sa MAUI! Yipeeee! may kilala na agad akong PINAY pag dating ko dun! Kita tayo ha?
God Bless! Take care! Aloha my dear!
Hi NOVA! Finally I am able to see one Filipina that I can possibly talk to in HAWAII too! And Guess what? I am heading to MAUI, HAWAII soon too! YEAH! you read it RIGHT! ---> MAUI, HAWAII din ako! Medyo mabagal lang kasi ang Document Verifiction ko until now wala pang result. Hopefully sa end of July makuha ko na din visa ko. Don't worry may kasama ka na ngayon na makakausap mo ----> AKO! heheheheHello fellow VJrs, I just got here last June 23, 2008 under K3, I can say that I'm really happy now that I'm reunited with my husband, but sometimes I can't control feeling kinda lonely, from being away from my parents and nephews in the Phils. I know I shouldn't be feeling like this, my husband is always cheering me up but sometimes I wish I knew somebody here in this new place wherein I can talk too, I also plan to work here when my ead is approved but I don't know when, where and how to apply here, I am worrying how I will adapt here because up to know I haven't spoken to any filipinos here, I know there's a lot of filipinos here but I am hesitating to approach them and be friends with them, they're all speaking english here so I'm afraid that since my english is not that good, they might reject me the first time I talk to them, I don't know if I can easily find a job here, I'm an accounting graduate and I used to work in a bank for almost 12 years in the Phils, I'm even worrying if I can find a job that's close to my course or job before, up to know I don't know how things are working here in this new place I'm living here. I hope somebody can help me out or talk to me about how things are working here. Thanks and God bless to all of us.Pricilla

Hi Nova 71!!
I immigrated to Maui about 8 years ago and lived there for the first 3 years. I am currently living in Honolulu but I regularly fly to Maui maybe once or twice a month with my family. I do have a lot of friends in Maui that you could probably hook up with.
Maui is a small island... virtually everybody knows each other... esp if you're filipino... you pretty much hang out with the same bunch of people .... i used to live in Kahului.. behind War Memorial Stadium...
My girls from Maui are not in any relationships so they do party a lot.. are you 21 years old yet??
Pasensya na kung mejo weird ang pagtatanong ko.. and i know i'm new here at VJ.. but I have been reading and learning from members posting messages here and i believe it is time to pay back.. let me know if you wanted to meet up with some of my friends... they are all from Manila and they are very cool.. and we all speak in Tagalog everywhere we go...
If you were an accountant for a long time in PI... I could have you call my friend who works for an accounting agency and they primarily do books for business clients... Hawai'i have three standard banks: Bank of Hawai'i, First Hawaiian Bank, and Central Pacific Bank... starting salary ranges around $8-9 an hour so medyo mababa... you can probably apply as payroll administrator in an upscale hotel in Maui and would be earning twice as much.. depends on what your long-term goal is... kase kung sa hotel ka.. you could end up being a controller and you will be getting paid a lot...
anyway... if you have any more questions let me know... yngat parate!!
hi stmclemore, thanks so much for the great advice ha and for taking time to reply to me, I'm at ease now, you're really a great help, I am discussing now what you have suggested to me with my husband, that it's better to work in a hotel than in banks here, I am living in kahului maui too in one of the condominiums here, what a coincidence! We'll I'm already 36 years old kinda old na, I hope my age won't be a big deal here if apply for a job, thanks so much ha, bye the way if you don't mind can I ask for your email address para pag may other questions pa ako ma address ko to you, but if you don't like ok lang, thanks talaga for replying and for giving me great advice, what's your first name nga pala, God bless you and your family.

Thanks and God bless to all of us.
