  1. Hi everyone,

we finally scheduled our interview at the Dutch embassy!

could someone please help me bc we have our interview on the 24th of October (only other available date was 10 October) but our NOA2 expires 4 October, does anyone know if I need to do anything to renew it or if they won’t renew it bc we chose 24-10 instead of 10-10?

I am going to bring a new updated letter of intent to marry either way.

I can try to find out but *most* embassies will send you instructions only and you gotta show up with all the right documents at the moment of the interview. The only ones I know for certain that need documents sent to them by email before the interview are Montreal and Tokyo.

    Hi,

okay thanks! All we can do is wait and see. We have already prepared all documents we can (that we know we need) so now we just have to wait for the instructions to come.

how long does it often take for the embassy to receive it from the nvc and sent you an email/mail?

Ok, more info I just got: everything comes by email for ND. The only thing that comes by mail is the K1-FTP that is kinda useless and you also get it by email.
Seems you don't need for the P3 to wait to schedule the interview, but I would confirm first with the embassy. Maybe they end up sending you the P3 quickly this way.

    Thanks!

Do you know if the required documents to sent back to the embassy is through e-mail too?

Everything now depends on the embassy. Your timeline is not filled but I am assuming it's Amsterdam looking at your posts?
I only know one person that went through there. I know Amsterdam received the K1-FTP by mail as well (Italy too). But you already got it, so no worries. I am unsure about packet 3 but *most* embassies send out the P3 by email only.

When it comes to DS-160, you do need to inform your travel history to US in there. So you'll be missing one trip if you do travel after submitting it. I am really not sue if this will be an issue or not, I don't think so but maybe the consular officer may ask about it.
I think it all boils down to the fact that your embassy would let you or not schedule the interview before the packet 3. If they do allow you, then you'd be losing time if you waited on the packet 3 to arrive by email. Are you able to reach out to other people going through the same embassy to find out? I'll see if I can reach to the one I know.

    Hi Sarah,

    thank you for your help.

for the Dutch embassy we need to make an appointment through a website and on the embassy page it mentions that you can’t book an appointment until you receive a letter. I think “package 3” also contains a “appointment request page”. So I will be waiting until we receive the package 3 to do the ds-160 since I can’t book it in advance either way.

do you think I can still go on vacation? And just submit things while I’m there if we receive anything during that time?

  5. 3 minutes ago, Bh_sarah said:

DS-160 is ok to submit, scheduling the interview depends on how your embassy works. Best to wait until CEAC shows  "ready". Some embassies also want you to send some documents before the interview, for those you do gotta wait until they reach out.

Your embassy doesn't let you schedule the interview once it turns to ready? :(( I am sorry. Same situation as @FilledesEtoiles it seems.

You can fill and submit DS-160 now, no problem at all. Not sure about scheduling the interview, depends on your embassy.
Also, note that the fee for us K1s is not $160 (it's actually $185 now for non-immigrant visas). Our fee is $265.

Hi Sarah, I think we will wait until we receive package 3.

i go on vacation to visit my fiancé in 3 weeks but I’m worried to receive the package 3 during it. What is best to do?
can we still travel to the USA if we submitted the ds-160?

Hi, it went well! You don't need the letter to schedule an appointment. Just make sure you fill out the DS 160 because you need the confirmation code to make the appointment. If you need any help just let me know. Good luck!

    Hi everyone,

we just got an email from nvc that it got sent to the embassy.

do I apply for the ds-160 already?

was “package 3” physical mail or an email and did you have to sent back physical mail or an email with the attached documents?
and what were the documents you had to sent?

is there also a certain time you need to respond to the package 3?

I will be going on vacation in 3 weeks for 2 weeks and am worried I will miss important things.

    thank you🙂

Looking at poster flags, this works for USA-"friendly" countries only.

    Prove me wrong. :)

Yeah it’s mainly for people who have an ESTA so USA “friendly” countries

its difficult even for USA “friendly” countries citizens to get a tourism visa while already in process for the k-1. That doesn’t change.

So you are taking stuff basically as a comfort blanket and nothing wrong with that, put it an envelope in your carry on, do not volunteer anything the chance of you being asked anything more than the stand 2 or 3 questions is very small

Yeah it’s just to be safe in case they would ask for more. I won’t volunteer All the paper work I have with me to them but just so that my story and everything else is backed up by proof.
I hope everything will go smoothly

  9. Hi everyone, I’m traveling this Saturday to the US on ESTA for 2,5 weeks ish.

    im bringing in these documents

    -paystubs

-return ticket (me and my fiancé )

-train ticket back to my city

-working schedule for the first 2 weeks I’m back

    - old and recent I-94

    -bank account and savings copy

-document stating the city I live in

    -NOA1 and k-1 visa package.

is there anything else I could bring? I’m so nervous and worried.

No it's not a problem. Don't make it one. An important thing in this whole process is to not volunteer information that could potentially get you into trouble. Use a copy of his ID ( which is ok to use for other federal agencies) and his last 3 paystubs. That's all that is needed.

So we also don’t have to let USCIS know that he changed jobs? Just fill in the information that’s true at the moment of filling?

If I want someone to prove to me that they are an active member of the U.S. Military, I ask for their active-duty identification card.  I've never asked someone for a copy of their contract.

Is there a specific USCIS requirement for a printed contract?  Would the ID card, or a photocopy of it, work as well?

    Regards,

    Vicky's Mom

It nowhere says a printed contract is a requirement but since it said any documents that you think could help your case. I thought the contract would be good since normally people are hired for a couple years and especially in the military it’s a stable job.

so you think a photocopy of his military ID would be sufficient too?

you don’t think it’ll be a problem with him changing jobs during the whole adjustment of status process and getting married thing?

since on the I-485 you also need to fill in your current job, won’t it be a problem if he doesn’t have that job anymore when they process?

    12 minutes ago, Letspaintcookies said:

His LES is also just fine. So you have the paystub and prove of being in the military all in one.

    Thank you!
so it’s not a problem for him to change branches around our marriage/applying for adjustment of status?

  12. 13 minutes ago, Chancy said:

Why do you need to submit his contract?  It is not required for the I-864.

It’s not? I thought you needed to show proof that you can take care of the beneficiary?

    • If you are the petitioning sponsor and on active duty in the U.S. armed forces or U.S. Coast Guard and are sponsoring your spouse or child using 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, proof of your active military status.

it says this on the USCIS website, that does mean we have to sent his contract up too right? Then they will see his USMC contract only goes until September 2023 if he decides to change branches.

I also see that you can sent in an employment verification letter, how would we go about this if we apply before he changes branches?

I must be missing something. Because I don’t  see a difference between reenlisting in the Marines vs enlisting in the Air Force with respect to I-134 / I-864

Well if he enlists in the airforce and we get married while he’s still in the marine corps we would put his contract from the marine corps in the I-864 and they will see that his contract ends  soon or has ended when they review it. Will this not cause any questions or RFE’s?

  14. Hello everyone,

so my fiancé is in the marine corps and will be at the end of his enlistment in September 2023. We applied for our k-1 visa in may 2022 so we are expecting to receive it before his enlistment ends in September 2023.

our question is if it’s smarter for him to renew his contract with the USMC for another 2 years or to go to the airforce in September 2023. Since it might cause difficulties when we get married while he’s in the marine corps and put his contract in I-864 affidavit of support and then while adjustment of status is processing he moves to the airforce.

obviously USCIS will also see his contract with USMC would be ending soon if we get married before his switch to the airforce.

what is the easiest/smartest thing to do?
And how would we need to do it if he moves over to the airforce after we got married and applied for adjustment of status? Do we sent the new contract to USCIS later? Or will we just get an RFE for that?

I hope this all makes sense! Thank you for reading and helping us out in advance(:

  15. Hello everyone.

I saw you need to bring your medical record to the medical exam but I have deleted everything off of my medical record about a year ago so I don’t have any medical history anymore. Will this be a problem or do they have a way to access deleted records?

I went to therapy and wanted to get a fresh start so I got my document removed and everything else, should I still disclose it since there’s no documentation/proof of this?

  16. 3 minutes ago, Letspaintcookies said:

Like others said before, your little mistake doesn't warrant it but would probably only complicate your case. There'll be no denial because of that.

Okay thank you. I will leave it as is then.

One more question I, the beneficiary signed the additional information/documentation proof too on our I-129f package. My usc fiancé signed the I-129f papers and the rest, I only signed the rest. I knew it wasn’t necessary but I wanted to be sure. Would this be a problem? I suppose not?

  17. 1 minute ago, Letspaintcookies said:

To fulfill the requirements for the I-129f you have to meet once in the two years before filing. You've send evidence of that so you're good. There'll be no denial over something like that. At least you now learned that it only brings problems to volunteer information that wasn't asked for. Don't do it again 😁

Very true😅. Just thought it would make our case stronger but me and my fiancé can’t read I guess cuz we looked over the mistake like 5 times, the whole process is just so nerve wrecking and especially now with everything having a long processing time it’d be 10x worse getting it denied after waiting over a year. But I have my fingers crossed.

so you say not to inter file either and just leave my package like that and wait for a approval/RFE/denial?

  18. 2 hours ago, Letspaintcookies said:

Those boarding passes only confirmed the November date where we went to the usa and our recent meeting before we sent our file in.
sadly it does not refer to our first time meeting in our relationship with the March/may part. But as others said if I get an RFE I have plenty of proof to back up which date is correct and pictures to show. Which I will all be bringing to the interview. My fiancé is on deployment now too, so I know how you feel. Luckily you guys get to be together more often now!!
thank you for your advice, I just pray for no denial. But I’ve seen they only really deny it if there’s like a lot missing or really important information missing, else they just normally sent an RFE right?

so you don’t think ill be receiving a denial? At most an RFE

    2 hours ago, Letspaintcookies said:

There won't be a denial and most likely not even a RFE. You sent passport stamps and boarding passes that show the dates of when you traveled. They won't give you a hard time because you had a typo in your letter.
