  1. No shortcuts. Every possible route aside from crossing Bidens wide open border (don’t recommend), will likely take 2 years or longer start to finish.
  2. Deferred or not, being honest is the best route. even if it doesn’t show up on record, immigration can likely see more than we all know.
  3. All offenses including ones that happened as a minor need to be reported. If there is no record, explain the charge and the approximate date.
  4. Not a fun process. I can’t comment on what to do. But I understand how hard this is and the emotional struggle of being away from your loved one. 9 months in, I have days I become severely depressed. I’m sure somebody can answer your question
  5. Hey fellow April filers. Feeling a little down about this long wait right now. Exhausted and drained finding vacation time and buying plane tickets. It's hard being apart.
  6. 8 months in man, you’re in the same boat as the rest of us. I filed a month before yours and I understand the wait is painful to say the least. I suggest wait and surround yourself with supportive friends and family. You’re half way there.
  7. After k1 approval, after getting married, can I add the beneficiary and her son to my health insurance plan? Or do I need to wait the several months for all the other paperwork so she can work, get a SS etc. I'm just curious, we want to start a family soon after arrival. But Ill wait if I can't insure them immediately.
  8. I understand. I just got so many different responses that I decided to get a professional to help. It's peace of mind. I don't think anybody here suggested I get FBI fingerprints checked, but I'm very thankful that these forums have been so informative.
  9. Hello guys, it's been awhile so I thought I should give you all an update. I actually went to a lawyer to with my concerns about this. He actually gave me free advice initially. For free, he told me to go down to the courthouse and ask them to print a document saying no criminal record was found, and nicely ask for a signature saying nothing was found. Then write a nice letter to uscis. Well I did go to the court, and like I said no records turned up. I asked the person if they could print it, and I was told because there is no record then there is nothing to print. I then asked if he could print a screenshot and sign it, but he told me they can't do that, signing anything is considered legal matters. So I went back to the immigration lawyer and paid for his service. $1000. He instructed me to go to the police station and get all my fingerprints printed. He would send that to the FBI for a background check. It took about a month for the FBI to respond. They confirmed my fingerprints were checked and did not bring up any criminal records within the federal government. After that, my lawyer put together an amendment request for uscis. The request included formal amendment to the 129f form, to update certain boxes and that I am now using a lawyer and all communication should go through him. It also included a very brief summary of what i remember from highschool. It was something like, when I was around 16 years old, I was in an minor alteration with another student, in which I was questioned by police but was never under arrest. I never saw a judge or entered a court room. I did community service. I did not think to add this to my original 129f because it was so minor. But I want to be as honest as possible. Etc. I have included an FBI background check and a Washington state patrol records check. My lawyer says they likely will approve, but if they want to dig more because I brought it up they may ask for more records that really don't exist. In which case he said he would help for no extra charge. Sorry for the late response.
  10. So I spoke to a lawyer in my area. He is recommending that I "attempt" to get any record that might be available, and if nothing is available, try to get a signature that nothing is found in the records. He then recommended using that document and sending in for an amendment to my i-129k. He said he can write up a letter for me to send, but seemed to think I could do it myself and even gave me some tips. He would charge 1000$ if I hired him, even if I do the legwork. He says USCIS or anybody is likely not really concerned with my history from being a minor and probably won't show up. But if I want to feel better, disclose it in an amendment. There have been a couple people here that offered tips for writing an amendment. I think I may message them and politely ask for assistance. I really don't want to fork over $1000+ In the meantime, thank you all for your valuable input and information. I really appreciate it. I will keep this updated as things progress.
  11. I filed i129f a few weeks ago. There is a charge for some form of minor assault during highschool. I was questioned but never arrested and didn't ever see a judge, but it was easier to accept community service for a couple days as a punishment instead of fighting it. record was expunged automatically. I have never seen this in any background check, and no employer has questioned it. Even my fiance's relative knows somebody who works in government and did a background check on me (for my fiances safety). They didn't see anything. I was squeaky clean. So I didn't disclose it on my i-129f (but I did tell my fiance about it). Now I'm reading horror stories about people being denied because they didn't disclose expunged records from decades ago. I'm worried. Can I amend my original filing? Should I be worried? Should I call USCIS? Thank you.
