This has turned into a complete mess. I tried to be considerate by booking the shortest return flight with my son to avoid stressing him. I found one with a Canadian airline and, before buying the ticket, I contacted their support who then asked me to contact Service Canada to get clarification. I clearly explained that my son would be traveling on an immigrant visa, not a non-immigrant one.. this happened 3 months ago. The representative provided information and sent me an email with the details, which I bookmarked. Based on that guidance, I believed all we needed was an eTA. After receiving your message, I called Service Canada again to confirm. This time, I was redirected to the CBP equivalent and, after nearly an hour on hold, the lady on the other end simply just read information from the same website. I am now forced to purchase a new ticket with an American airline, near the end of my vacation, at a cost of $2099.. this is not right.

U.S. Department of State IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION Issued Case Last Updated: 22-Dec-2025 - Your visa has been printed. Depending on local procedures at the location where you were interviewed, your visa will be mailed or available for pickup soon. If there are further questions, or if we need updated contact information, you will be contacted. For more information, please visit TRAVEL.STATE.GOV. I didn't know this existed tbh, but it says that it was issued.

A couple of weeks ago my son had his IR2 interview and it was approved. I was told that I should hear something from Aramex within 2 weeks to get his passport, but I haven't heard anything as of yet. I called last Friday and I was told by Aramex that they haven't received the passport from the embassy yet. Is this normal?

I know this is an older comment, but how does one apply for a passport for an IR2 recipient? I would assume just getting the docs outline by @jan22 then going to the post office and ask for the passport? Honestly I should of looked around first before asking.

We didn't think of that, I'll run some flights and see where we at. -

The only way for her to go is by quitting her job since her manager only gave her 10 days, despite telling her previously that she'll give her more than 2 weeks but now have changed her mind. This is sad, we've been waiting over a year now for this time just for this to not work as we expected. -

Would you say 10 days is enough after the interview date for the return flight? Or this is cutting it short? Just switched jobs and I can't take more than 2 weeks. Also he doesn't speak yet he only knows some words. -

Can his grandmother or aunt take him? Or it's better to have one of the parents goes with him? He's almost two year old, I'm not sure what they're going to "ask him", I assume they're going to ask whoever is going with him to the interview. -

Sorry for the late reply, he's my biological son and our application as of yesterday is with the Moroccan embassy. I read a little bit ago about filling for N-600 for a citizenship certificate. My wife only received her green card last year, so I assume she cannot leave the country for more than 6 months. You mentioned extra steps, what are you referring to? -
My son's interview finally has been scheduled, I have a couple of questions regarding his interview. As the petitioner do I have to be with him during the interview? Or can my wife travel back home to be with him instead? If approved, what other steps I need to take to not mess things up? Or just pack his bags and book a ticket for him?

After a long wait my son's I-130 has been approved, and NVC docs were DQ'd a couple of weeks ago. He's only 1,5 years old and I tried emailing the consulate to expedite his interview (I did mention that the NVC stage was completed) and I received the following email from them: "Thank you for your email. This office has not yet received your case at post. Usually, immigrant visa cases are scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC) in the United States. We only receive files at this office after the interview has been scheduled, and a packet emailed to the applicant. However, if the NVC agrees to expedite your case and send it to us, we will be happy to schedule an appointment for your son as soon as we receive the case." How do I contact the NVC about this request? I thought that once documents are DQ they get sent out to the consulate for processing? What do I do?

Now I am really confused. All this time I was gathering and uploading the AOS documents but I was wrong all this time because they only need his docs? So I don't need to upload anything AOS related because that's not required, where would I know where to get extra civil docs for him because the only two required docs; passport bio page and the birth certificate which I already translated. This is what I have in my main screens once I login to the NVC site. -
NVC exempt.

Oh I didn't know this, and yes I am a USC but I couldn't go down the CRBA route due to lack of the 5 year rule at the time of his birth. Once he gets here, how can I apply for his passport? I was kind of confused when I saw the "exempt" in the NVC profile. I just need to gather the documents normally? -
NVC exempt.

He's under the I-130 and he's 16 months. I paid the immigration visa fee but the other one was waived. -
Hi, finally had my son's I-130 approved and the application has been sent to the NVC. When I tried to pay the fee I only saw the one ($325), the other fee was $120+ was showing as exempt next to it. Is that normal? Now I'm starting to upload his documents. With so much info around, can you guys share with me what civil documents and financial docs I need? Because of the AOS exempt does that mean I dont need the i864?
