  1. Hi everyone,

I had my interview in San Diego this morning and they did the Oath ceremony right afterwards. I am so glad this is finally over.

The interview was very quick and painless. The questions they asked me were:

    1.      Where is the statute of liberty?

    2.      What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?

    3.      What is one power of the federal government?

    4.      Who is our founding father?

    5.      Who was the first president?

    6.      Name one state that borders Canada

Then we went through my application. The interview took about 20 minutes. Afterwards I went up one floor and took the oath with about 10 other people in the room. That took less than 5 minutes. Overall, I was in the building for a little over an hour. Now on to getting a passport.

For those of you still waiting, I would definitely recommend filing a FOIA request. There is no guarantee that it will get you an interview quicker, but it helped so many of us now and it does not hurt your case.

    Anyway, here is my timeline:
    04/20/2020: N400 submitted
    03/24/2021: Biometrics done
    12/10/2021: Filed FOIA
    01/03/2022: FOIA reached step 3
    01/06/2022: Interview notice
    02/09/2022: Interview and Oath

    Good Luck everyone!!

I don't know if anyone remembers me, but as I mentioned before: I requested A-file back in Nov 2021. It got stuck in step 2 for more than 2 months. Today it finally moved to step 4.

Still no information on interview scheduling yet. How long did everyone wait to get an interview notice, after A file request moved to step 3? 1-2weeks?

My interview was scheduled 3 days after FOIA moved to step 3. It is still in step 3 today, 3 weeks later. Hope you get yours soon.

Great news!!! I just logged into USCIS portal this morning and see both mine and wife's interview were scheduled for Feb.

We filed FOIA on Dec 12th. Mine went to step 3 on Dec 30. My wife's is still in Step 2 as of this morning.

It looks like FOIA has triggered the interview.

We have international trip next day after the interview and wondering if we can ask USCIS to have next Oath ceremony date instead of the same day oath. Any one has any experience in this ?

Congrats, that's awesome.  I really believe all the ones on here still waiting will get their interviews soon.

Did anyone receive a letter with such wording when you made your FOIA request?

Your request is being handled under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. § 552). It has been assigned the following control number: . Please cite this number in all future correspondence about your request. We respond to requests on a first-in, first-out basis and on a multi-track system. Your request has been placed in the complex track (Track 2). You may wish to narrow your request to a specific document in order to be eligible for the faster track. To do so, please send a written request, identifying the specific document sought, to the address above. We will notify you if your request is placed in the simple track.

Yes, I got the same letter after I filed and mine was placed in the complex track too, but it still moved quickly to step 3.

Happy to inform that my spouse has received an interview request for FO Newark,NJ for Feb 7th . I am still waiting to hear on mine.

It may be noted that we both did the FOIA request on the same day , however her case moved a few days earlier to Step 3  than mine did.

That is fantastic news. Looks like the FOIA thing is really starting to move things. I am so thankful to user Sam713 for sharing his experience. I would have never thought of doing a FOIA request otherwise. Really hoping everyone else on here still waiting will get their interview soon.

I filed an FOIA request yesterday and when I tried to check the status today, the USCIS website told me I need to register my request, and to do that I need to enter the tracking number (which I have) and the PIN (which I don’t). What is the PIN, and also what is the “USCIS acknowledgement letter sent via mail” that this PIN is supposedly on? I don’t remember getting such a letter. Does that mean they mailed me one after I submitted the request and I’m supposed to be getting it soon? Or, is it something I’m already supposed to have received? Can anyone help me understand how I can track the status of my FOIA request?

     Thanks.

You don't need the PIN and you also don't need to register your request. Just say no to the pop up about the registration and you can click on your request and get the status. Re Acknowledgement letter, I received that about 2 weeks after filing the request, its just a formal acknowledgement that they received the request and which track is was put on for processing. Hope this helps and good luck.

It seems like things have started to move now. I just logged in to my USCIS account and saw that my interview has been scheduled! After 20 long months of wait. I am not sure what worked here. I had filed FOIA on December 12th. It moved to step 3 about 12-15 days back and today I got the interview notice. But I should also add that I had reached out to the senators, congressman and the ombudsman in November, and just yesterday I got a reply from Ombudsman saying that they reached out to the USCIS on my behalf.

So I am not sure which was it, but my bet is on the FOIA to get the ball rolling! Hang tight guys and file the FOIA if you haven't already.

    Awesome, congrats!!

Congrats! When did you file foia and where are you located?

Also did you request your entire A file or sections of it?

I filed the FOIA on Dec 10 and it just moved into step 3 on Jan 3. I am in San Diego. And yes, I requested the whole A-file. Honestly, I have no idea if the FOIA triggered anything or if its just a coincidence, but its worth a shot for sure.

That's great news! I filed my FOIA a couple days after you. I'm just glad it worked for somebody!

Hoping you get your interview soon!!

Nice. What's your field office and date of filing? Did you do anything special to push your case?

I filed April 20, 2020, Field office is San Diego.

I have opened several service requests, contacted congressman, Senator, Ombudsman. They said my file was stuck at the NRC.  I filed the FOIA on 12/10. I honestly have no idea if this is what triggered things but it obviously didn't hurt.

Note: This is an estimated date based on average processing times. Availability of records and complexity of request may effect completion date.

That's awesome. Can't wait so see if anything happens. Mine is still in step 2, my queue is 13429 of 16234, so should come soon after yours. Fingers crossed!!

Yeah, I'm obviously really trying to avoid moving as it would have severe personal consequences but I'm just so sick of living in limbo my entire life. I guess, I'll find out next month if my BBG was extended by two years. I think usually it's one year but hopefully it will be two years for me as well. On the German dual citizenship self-help group a member just told me that it took 10 weeks in Ohio. Yeah, they applied in October 2021.

    I know, its super frustrating.

How does one contact the ombudsman? I and congress person have contacted USCIS field office and national benefits center but not the ombudsman. SF field office didn't respond to congress person but were previously told that we need to contact national benefits center. National benefits center responded to my inquiry and says we need to contact SF field office.

Assuming that you're also dealing with the BBG, have you looked into filing the mandamus lawsuit, selling your house and moving to a better field office, or going back to Germany? I'm honestly weighing those options at this point, even though the latter two would have severe personal consequences. However, I can't carry on living in limbo anymore. This has been going on for my entire adult life and most of my life and my BBG is about to expire.

Regarding the BBG, I picked up my extension in LA this morning and I am now good until November 2023. I thought it would only be extended for 1 year but they actually gave me 2. If I am not naturalized by Nov 2023 I think I will give up.

I too am considering filing a mandamus but I will definitely wait until I reach 2 years, which will be end of April for me. Moving is not an option for me. The San Diego field office is actually not doing too bad, 10.5-15.5 months currently. The problem is that I am already at 20 months. Arrrgh! Mandamus will be my last resort, but I am fully prepared to file it if needed.
