  1. Thanks for the replies. truly appreciate them.

He is actually going home to Manila in January 2023 to formally ask the parents' blessing for marriage. They have known each other for years, and it's kind of like an expectation for both families that they will, after graduating and having stable jobs.

Q: If they decide to get married in January 2023 ( I do not know yet if they will, I am just speculating, since they have long waited for this), how do we proceed? Do we just inform USCIS that we are changing the K1 to CR1?

  2. Hello everyone. I hope someone can answer my questions. This K1 visa is not for me, but for my son's fiancée.

My son (USC) filed for K1 for his fiancée, who has been his girlfriend since he was about 13 yrs old. They're both 26 yrs old now.

The filing date of the petition was on August 30, 2021, and they have not seen each other for 2 years before that because of Covid restrictions. My son also was working and graduated from College ( Oct 2021).

    Today, we received an RFE.

Has anyone used Covid as a reason for the missing 2 year period?

  3. Good day, VJ community.

I am in need of your help/ personal experiences/ professional knowledge/ inputs, and anything else that will help. Thank you in advance!

My son ( USC ), went back to our birth country to study college ( BS Industrial Engineering). It was his choice. He has now decided to stay in the US to continue his education. He is coming to the US in the next few weeks, and I am asking him to bring his documents with him.

    Please let me know:

    1) What documents he needs to bring with him, aside from his transcripts..

    .

    2) How the subjects/ courses he already passed in our country will be accredited here, so he does not have to re-take them

I have no college experience in the US ( arrived with a degree and had no problems); so I am at a loss on how everything works here.

    Please enlighten this mother! :)

  4. Hi TeacherMarites, and thank you so much for your reply.

My problem is that she is here in the US right now, and her PP bears the entry form ( I-94? I couldn't remember at the moment). That would be on her PP that bears a first name different from that of my BC.

    To anyone who could help,

Would it be possible to go ahead and do a DNA test in a USCIS accredited facility?

  5. Oh, that's even better not having to pass the interview!! Didn't the officer ask your children anything at all, even casually?

He asked him his name and birthday, if the way the name as spelled on the certificate is correct; gave him an envelope containing details about citizenship, and a flaglet; and that's it. Then they asked my son to take the oath.

After that I asked if I can take pics of my son by the US flag, and my son refused, finding it cheesy, I guess. The officer told my son " Oh just let her, these are all for her hard work FOR YOU." And so my son let me; reluctantly , though, as I made him wave the flaglet. The officer was smiling throughout all these. Hahaha!! These kids!! They just don't know what we go through for them.

Regards, you all. God bless us parents, for doing everything for our children.

  6. No, both my kids are over 14 so they will have to pass the interview and perform the oath. My kids are Canadian passport holders/citizens too, so they do not have to get formal B2 visas to enter the U.S.

Those over 14 but under 18 do not need to PASS an interview, they just need to take the oath. My children's certificate says they are USCs since the day of their arrival to the US.

God bless! Wishing all that are still undergoing this process a hassle-free journey! And congrats to those who are finally done!

  7. did you get anything in your email? coz i put my philippine address, since its for n-600k (residing abroad).. still waiting for an answer. filed in july... when did you file?

They received the file June 12, 2012. We got the hard copy stating date and time of oath, on September 12, 2012. Nothing in the email at all.

  8. Do you have to apply for the N-600 for minor children or is it optional? In other words, can we just get them passports to show they are citizens?

    Thanks.

I filed both for each of my children. It is quite expensive, though. $600 for the N600 for each of the minor child.

There are some threads/discussions here on the pros/cons of filing for the N600. I checked them out and then decided that it is better for them to have the certificate.

I suggest you go through the threads, and then see which one works for your situation.

    Good luck!!

  9. Hey Ezzie and everyone else. We received a letter from USCIS today about the N600 which said for us to sign the 2 photos of our son, and to mail them the green card and the signed photos. It says they will send us a seperate correspondence once a "decision" is made. Does this mean it is approved or what does this mean?

    Thanks.

Im pretty sure its been approved. I remember having to ask my son to sign the photos before we submitted. Maybe it's just a requirement thing.

    Good luck!

  10. I applied for infopass today, scheduled for tomorrow. I would have to happily cancel it now, though.

When we checked the mail, there was a letter from USCIS. It says " Your application for Certificate of Citizenship has been approved. You have been scheduled for an Administration of Oath at the time and place listed."

Today is exactly 3 months from the time they received our application ( June 12, 2012). Oath is scheduled end of September.

    So happy for this.

Hoping for good news for you guys as well.

    Ezzie

  11. I have heard that many SS offices will allow you to use a US Passport to update the status with social security, so you might try a different office. It even says on the social security website that you can use a US passport or a COC to update the social security status.

Yap, will try a different branch.

I called up USCIS yesterday to follow-up. They said the NBC is still processing it.

  12. hello..

As for my son..We still haven't gotten any hard copy/NOA.

he's got the US passport, though. Last week, we went to update his status w/ SSA, and they were asking for the COC. The big boss said they cannot update his SS file, even if he has a US passport, until we can present his COC. They said they will update it if my son's name was in MY COC. I told them that at the time of my filing and oath, my son was still in the Philippines. But no dice, they said come back once we have my son's COC.

So there you go..one more reason why it's okay that we filed the N600.

  13. To the OP:

Please run away as fast as you can, and never look back. If you stay, you are setting yourself up for future disaster. No cheating partner is ever worth your time.

This is a hard time, but you will never regret running away from someone who never treated you fairly.

Regards, and thank the Lord for protecting you.

    Ezzie

  14. Okay, sounds good. We will keep each other updated here. When did you apply for the US passport? We got my sons US passport without the N600/COC in 2009. It will be time to renew the passport in 2014 and according to alot I've been reading the COC is going to be important in the future for drivers license, employment etc. so we applied for the N600/COC in June and I pray I submitted everything correctly and all goes smoothly.

He's only been here in the US for more than a month; we applied for the passport June 18th.

Not everyone applies for the N600, but I just know we'll be glad we did this for them. If you research VJ, you'll see the contentions of all those against it. Well, they're not really against it, but more like they see it as a waste of precious $600. It's really a lot of money for a certificate, so I wish it would have been a lot less than that.

  15. Seriously praying that all goes well with our N600. I want my son to have everything he ever needs to prove his citizenship. He already has his US Passport but seems the N609 Certificate of Citizenship is really important.

Based on the uscis website etc.

Let's update each other on the process. We're still waiting for his US passport as of the moment.

    God Bless.

    Ezzie

  16. I pray you are right Ezzie. I mean since we can't track it online, how do we know from day to day? What if a notice or something gets lost in the mail? How in the world would we know? I just pray everything goes smoothly. I'm new to this. Let's all keep each other updated.

Since there's no way to track, we'll just wait...Haaayyyy..like it's that easy, no?

Last year, the notice for my eldest son's oath-taking was lost in the mail, and someone from the local field office called me up asking why we didn't come on the supposed date.
