Does anybody know embassy interview times? Like from the moment NVC approves your docs to interview?

When my case left NVC (after I requested to expedite) the turna around to get me schedule for an interview was about a week.

The thing I did not like was that there seems to be zero flexibility in changing your date and time. Therefore, I would make sure at the what you keep you schedules open and or make arrangements to make sure you have time off to go to the interview.

No, not just NVC, after your case is transferred to the embassy, NVC is done, and anything you upload after that is to the embassy.

    Thanks for the clarity.

So the embassy can/will check ceac?

last, the YouTube links on the 221g are outdated hahaha (I checked). Also, I myself had to retrieve the embassy email so I could email the tax as well. I have updated my ceac and sent them an email as well.

You upload all the required documents to CEAC....once you've done that, you send an email to the address telling the embassy you've uploaded the documents to CEAC....then you wait....like us...

The brings me to another question.

The Embassy checks CEAC. I thought this was just NVC whom deal with CEAC. Can I have some feedback on this?

OP's wife interviewed April 1st... before taxes were due.

They've been in extended AP after interview... and OP is wondering why they haven't reviewed documents submitted to CEAC (as instructed by the letter wife received) BUT

wife received verbal instructions to email most 2021 transcripts....

I have officially submitted my Affidaivit 2021 W2. Now I wondering when will get a e-mail, call, etc. Does the passport just come back in the mail? Do the inform before they send it? How does it work?

the embassy said to email these per the 221 G and instructions she recd

do whatever is asked of u or the case will go no further

u may not understand the "why"  but the CO had a reason

there is another member that recently posted he/she was told to scan to CEAC and also to email the documents

If u spoke to someone at NVC they must have approved the documents but the person  u talked to no longer can see your case info

so the following statement is unrealiable

The same visa center when I gave my visa details and the gentleman said everything looks okay lol.

Just send what they asked for and save yourself any further headaches. As others have said the NVC has no final say in anything, they are just paper pushers. The CO has final discretion in all decisions, including financial.

Wasn’t the NVC. It was the Embassy visa unit.

From now on you take over emailing the consulate and alway c/c your wife.  You can be a little bit of a demanding US citizen , it’s ok . And when you do reach them ask innocently if you should contact your Congressman for help to resolve this..

I like this suggestion. Thank you very much :) . I will be sure to cc her and keep her in the loop.

But, did the email give instructions on how to submit the documents or did it just tell you to submit another sponsor?

And does your joint sponsor make a lot more than the required amount or is it just a little over the amount he should make to sponsor your wife?

He makes well over six figures. More than required.

They submit to CEAC. This is from the visa center.

The same visa center when I gave my visa details and the gentleman said everything looks okay lol.

And the email she received stated she should upload the documents to CEAC?

"another" might be a typo... are the instructions also in Japanese?

I am so sorry you're going through this prolonged AP but hopefully the consulate will issue the visa soon.

The first instructions were in Japanese.

I just don’t think what she was received is by any means correct.

Like I stated what was handed to us at the embassy takes precedent I am sure.

The gentleman I spoke with said ignore anything that isn’t directly to my e-mail or phone from the embassy

I am assuming “ another Joint Sponsor “ to mean they did not like the one submitted. Was your Joint sponsor actual IRS transcripts submitted or the 1040 return?

Yes, they were. All were approved by NVC before pushed to the embassy.

The only document they want is the 1040 and W2 for 2021.

My joint sponsor taxes for 2019 and 2020 were submitted and cleared

Sometimes the directions aren't always up to date.

Example: They state you need to submit all PCCs if you lived in a country for 6 months or more... but in truth they only want PCCs from countries you've lived in for 1+ year.

I would probably be safe and email the documents as that is what your wife was told to do.

I am assuming by “another” they mean another copy? The gentleman on the phone told me to wait on contact from the embassy.

The interviewing didn’t mention anything about what’s in my wife e-mail. I will talk the 221g as precedent.

Ah! Have you managed to call the embassy yet to clarify what to do with the documents?

I know you already submitted the docs via CEAC but maybe they do expect you to email it, too...

When my wife spoke to me after her interview, she gave me the 221g. She then said to me they said “e-mail” lol, On there document it says upload via CEAC, which doesn’t make any sense to me.

I just spoke to the Embassy Visa Unit. The gentleman said “don’t worry you wife’s visa is still be processed”. He also told all inquiries about documentation submittal as etc should be directed to the embassy. NVC or CEAC communication should be necessary.

Sometimes, the consulate requires items to be uploaded to CEAC since NVC and the Consulate are both part of the Department of State.  It appears you need an I-864 and ALL supporting documentation from a well-qualified joint sponsor.  Personally, I would upload the documentation as the letter states. Good luck.

Already all submitted to Embassy. Her interview is done. Therefore I don’t know what the embassy sent her this. Miscommunication maybe?

I just spoke to visa center and the guy I spoke said her visa is still processing. I am pretty fed up wth the disorganization.

  13. Hello all again (lol),

    I have more questions.

First, I would like to know once your case is sent from NVC to the Embassy and once you have the interview with the embassy, the embassy is responsible for documentation correct? We got documentation stating we need to upload to ceac, but also it was said to e-mail the final document to this e-mail TokyoNIV@state.gov. E-mailing makes more sense to me since it seems the NVC part of the process is done.

Second, my wife received an e-mail form the embassy with the below:

[X]  Affidavit of Support, I-864 for another Joint Sponsor ( This has already been submitted and paid hence why it is at the embassy now)

[X] IRS Federal tax transcripts or return for the another joint sponsor 2020 or 2021

[X] IRS W-2 for the another joint sponsor 2020 or 2021 of tax year  (2020 was given and in my current NVC file along with 2019 that was given at the interview)

[X] Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident (copy of ppt bio page or green card) for the another joint sponsor (I have this for my affidavit, but wasn't requested after the interview)

This all seems conflicting and overlapping. I don't know why the embassy in Tokyo sent here this. Any ideas?

Last, the embassy before she left her interview gave here a 221g document stating that they just needed line item two and three above. Do not know what they mean by "another". I guess this is a typo. We need to be out of Japan by Sept 18th 2022. If not we will need to do a health check again. Any help will be appreciated.

How long did the approval take for you when you sent the request to expedite? I am wondering if I could do the same thing and expedite the process, stating that our children already have a spot in schools and we will probably loose them if we don't manage to be there on time.. Did you mention the "silliness" of the RFE that you got in the request?

If I recall correctly, I got the nditification within a week of putting the request in.

Well my question is, if we weren’t good on docs, why would they take the passport?

So I have indeed found out that at this point right now her visa is being refused. We just need to submit the affidavit 2021 1040/ W2 and we will be good to go.

I thought you said you already went through your interview. A DQ email is typically sent by NVC before you're interview can be scheduled so now I'm a bit confused.

Did you get an RFE message requesting the proof of income document? You then submitted it and never got a DQ email? But got an interview date anyway?

That is correct. Like I stated I think the proof of income was a flub, but still i got zero information back on it. When I asked to expedite cause the actually approval form CEAC was just taking to long, they approve to expedite. My wife interview and they have taken her docs, but they said we need to submit update 1040 and W2 of mines or affidavit ( I think its really on the affidavit cause I don’t need to claim my Japan income. I filled my 1040 as unemployed)
