Maybe I did do something wrong. When I go to the website, I don't have the option to select the Jurisdiction - I am simply asked for the New Passport/Citizenship Nationality, which because it is Canadian, it automatically gives me the Toronto form. Anyhow hopefully I get the Renunciation Certificate ASAP, so that I can try your method for the OCI!

Not entirely sure (there is no specific process from USCIS for the specific case that many on this thread are faced with). @Kai G. Llewellyn / @Maverick_TO and I are trying to decipher how to notify USCIS, only to ensure that we have been proactively and completely clear with them so as to not face any issues in the future.

The problem I faced with your method is: 1. When you go to the PassportIndia.gov.in website, it asks the Country you've gained Citizenship from, and I selected 'Canada' (THAT is what put the Toronto Consulate in my form. 2. When I entered my current address (which of course is in the US) , it took me to the Houston Consulate page/instructions 😡😟 3. So basically, I had: a CGI Application specifying Toronto Consulate, and a Renunciation Application meant for the Houston Consulate

Lol your timing is great. Just had to pay BLS $30 to enter in 1 LINE that they claim I missed to enter even though the online form didn't have that field. They said I should get my Renunciation Certificate in 15 business days. Wow 4-5 Months??? I'm going to have to look into this and see if I can apply for an OCI from US Indian-consulates. With any Indian Government process I've learned you need to go through the entire application/process before you actually need to, in order to understand the intricacies.

Agree with @Kai G. Llewellyn - I sent USCIS a message declaring my acquiring of Canadian Citizenship after acquiring my US LPR status and unfortunately I also got a non-sensical automated response that my US Green Card had been issued and that I can contact them in case I did not receive it. My game plan is to keep the record of that conversation, should I need it during my application for US Citizenship.

@Maverick_TO, It's good you could apply for your renunciation from within the USA (using your newly acquired Canadian Citizenship). I unfortunately was denied by VFS because they said that the Toronto Consulate would have to process my application (though my current US address puts me in the Houston Consulate's jurisdiction!) Anyhow, I am applying for Renunciation with BLS Brampton today.

I presented exactly those 2 things (US GC & Indian Passport) and answered only what was asked (Who are you visiting, for How long, etc.) - They never asked me any questions that required me to claim Canadian Citizenship.

As an update to all re my travel back to the US from Pearson using my new Canadian Passport: I got my picture taken, presented my Canadian Passport and US Green Card to CBP. They asked me where I am going in the US, and why. I answered truthfully that I am going to ####, I live there as a US PR. They looked at my Passport and GC, asked if I had any produce (No), and then I was on my way. The whole process was 10 seconds max. I do still feel I need to contact USCIS and get a new GC with my new/correct Nationality (Canadian) b/c my current GC says Indian (as I was an Indian national when I received my US PR/Immigrant Visa and also when I immigrated to the US). My personal view is 2 weeks is too short a period of time to accomplish all of those things. And IF you are able to achieve success, you still have the challenge of the change of citizenship that you mentioned earlier.

Why would you inform the CO about citizenship change if it has not even happened yet? You are still, in fact, an Indian citizen. Note: This assumption is going by your earlier post where you stated that you will still schedule/reschedule your Oath after immigrating to the US.

You truly have a unique situation, however somewhat similar to many on this thread - especially as it relates to balancing concurrent US IV approval and Canadian Citizenship grant. I can see why you are waiting for your successful US IV Interview before taking your Oath. You can enter the US with the US IV Stamped in your Indian passport, if you do not want to wait for your Green Card (GC) to come in the mail. That being said, it took 2 weeks for me to receive my GC after I entered the US on my IV - However keep in mind that this timeline may differ for people depending on their processing office. This is ENTIRELY my opinion and not based on specific research, but the only thing that raises possible concern in your plan is the time that your wife is staying outside of the US after becoming a US PR. I am not sure of this, but wouldn't they question her intent of remaining a US PR is she is out of the USA for more than 180 days in a year? Just something to consider and possibly even discuss with a US Immigration Lawyer.

I never mentioned anything about picking up my passport because they didn't ask me. If they did, I would have told them. I am not sure if it'll pose a problem because the US agents may be confused about the new Canadian passport, but I intend to explain my situation - Let's see. Again, I highly encourage you to simply answer what is asked and that's it. If they ask more, answer more and answer truthfully.
