Perhaps you could have said that was what you were worried about. Very many people file at 90 days with no issue whatsoever.

That’s what I did and a didn’t get an earlier receipt date. I suspect what happened in the cases like the one quoted above were rarities.

The OP's best bet is the online early filing calculator, and if the N-400 is filed online, it'll automatically tell if you're eligible or not. The application won't let you continue if you're not eligible yet. I applied online on the same day as my eligibility (as decided by the calculator) and it went fine. Got a regular notice of action and I'm scheduled for an interview. Perhaps they can do it later in the day instead of the early a.m.

To clarify, my receipt date on the NoA was March 18th, and I had applied a few hours after midnight that day. Can't recall what time.

  4. In terms of driver's licenses, is there an urgency to update them at all? I know the status doesn't change automatically (when I moved back to Colorado and wanted to get a license as a green card holder, the DMV employee noticed that my previous CO license from 10 years prior had my status as international student and she needed to tinker a bit to change my status to permanent resident). But still, does it have much effect if I don't update my status with the DMV/my DL? Aside from being eligible for an enhanced DL in certain border states I mean.

Please help me understand how to file for the passport. I've had my Green Card since 2014. I have had it renewed since 2014 and it expires in 2026. I just was never in a rush to apply for the passport because I already have a Canadian passport which allows me to travel everywhere any way. Did I miss a deadline?  How can I apply for passport and how long does it usually take?

You can apply for a passport if you have US citizenship. Did you get US citizenship yet?

  6. House bill targets US passport backlog

    Quote

Lawmakers introduced bipartisan legislation on Thursday that would require the Biden administration to submit a plan to eliminate the massive U.S. passport backlog.

The Passport Backlog Elimination Act was introduced by Democratic Reps. Gerry Connolly (Va.) and Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.) and GOP Reps. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) and Tim Burchett (Tenn.).

The bill focuses on staffing shortages at the State Department that have caused the passport backlog, requiring the agency to ensure processing time is six to eight weeks for applications and two to three weeks for expedited applications.

    ...

The legislation would give the State Department a 30-day deadline to submit a plan, which must then be implemented within one month. The State Department inspector general would also have to submit an audit on the effectiveness of the plan within six months of the bill's enactment.

I am new to driving so I barely understand all these terms. But the officer did give me a paper that stated the fine on it and told me to long into some website and pay it off. Is actually my first. Have never been pulled over before.

As Savva said, pay it online and take a screenshot of the receipt plus print it. It should have a reference number of sorts.

I decided to get a passport first and deal with SSA later. I find the system of sending original documents pretty weird, but ok 🙄 Tried to walk in to infopass today but they turned me away since i didn't have an appointment. And to make an appointment you need to call and then they call you back in 3 weeks. I got a call back in a month and missed it. But i already made a passport appointment so i'll just mail my original one and will be left with no document at all. Weird.

Oh also, you can't send a certified copy with your passport application, it has to be the original one.

For SSA i may just give them my passport when i get it, by the way, not the naturalization certificate.

On the 2020 version of the DS-11 it says an original or certified copy and a photocopy (of the front and back) can be submitted:

  9. This may be a silly question, though I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, and I know most of you have already applied. But I noticed that there are hand-written passport applications in addition to ones generated by the passport wizard after filling out the info online. The latter application generates a barcode on the top left part of the first page. I'll post photos to illustrate the differences. My question is: do you think that sending out the application from the online wizard with the barcode makes processing it faster? I would think that the barcode contains all the info, which means they wouldn't have to type it by hand.

Hey all QQ on the civics test, When we have questions where there are more than one answers and they DO NOT say answer one or two, what do we do? Do we have to say all?

    For Example:

What does the judicial branch do?
    ▪ reviews laws
    ▪ explains laws
    ▪ resolves disputes (disagreements)
    ▪ decides if a law goes against the Constitution

I personally assumed that one answer would be enough but I could be wrong.

Mabruk on your interview!!! I'd say take whatever they asked you for and whatever else you can bring, they don't limit the entry to the amount of your paperwork, so better safe... Mabruk again!

Allah yibarik feek 🥳 Yeah I’ll bring everything plus the kitchen sink lol. I just hope they don’t get hung up on the 2016 tax returns if I don’t get it in time.

  12. I had previously sent out forms requesting the tax return transcript for 2016 and the tax return, and the latter apparently takes 75 calendar days to process. I can’t remember when I sent it, but if I don’t get it by then, I hope it doesn’t become an issue during the interview.

I tried ordering a tax return transcript through the phone, but the automated system said they were only available for 2017-2020. What a mess lol.

  13. Also it says this on my notice:

”You MUST BRING the following with you to the interview:
    • This letter.
    • Your Alien Registration Card ("green card").
    • Any evidence of Selective Service Registration.
    • Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States.”

The notice says nothing about bringing my tax returns for the past five years, which I’ve been told could be important. Should I bring those anyway? Like I said I’m not the spouse of a US citizen but I’ve been told it’s still important. The problem is that I’ve been trying to get my 2016 return transcript from the IRS to no avail. I mailed them the necessary forms a couple of time but got nothing. And now I only have about a month until the interview.

I know it’s off-topic so apologies for the side track.

  14. I GOT SCHEDULED FOR MY CITIZENSHIP INTERVIEW. I’m waiting to get the letter in the mail to know which date the interview will be. And it still says 13 months lol.

Edit: to reiterate, I’m in the Denver area and I applied using the five-year rule. Did not get my green card through marriage.

It does not expire at all as long as you maintain your green card and it’s not otherwise revoked.
