I've been thinking about that too and recalling some of the older yet lighter threads from years back that could be redone. Such as "You know you're married to a MENA man when..." or even the topic you suggested on how to prepare for your new lives together. That one hasn't really been done, and redone, and repeated, and beaten to death around here yet.

I never get involved with these threads, but thinking I should. I've been kicking around here long enough

I've been trying to think of some topics to discuss to get the ball rolling around here again. Maybe to get some of the newer people involved. Perhaps something informative for the newer members to prepare them for their new lives together in the US? Something for everyone basically. Any ideas?

Hey guys hope you are having a great evening. We are waiting on Farid's oath ceremony letter so he can get his certificate and apply for a US passport. Then God willing we can go on vacation to Morocco. Wohoo :thumbs:

Happy March Fellow Mena's!! Today marks out 4 month wait AOS. My hubby is growing inpatient of this wait. He has his EAD and AP but he says is not the same. I told him it will be here shortly and it's the government nothing is every speedy with it.

Happy March! I love hearing updates on how everyone is doing with their families! Alot of babies are growing up so fast & it seems like many of you just had them! Adam & I do look forward to the time we will be able to have a baby. Just this week Adam just got approved to move to the weekend shift where he will be working from 5am to 530pm Fri-Sun then off Mon-Thurs. More time to drive me nuts I suppose! He is completely maxed out in pay until he gets a yearly cost of living. Im really proud of him! He's already been studying for Citizenship & I look forward to when the paperwork will be filled out & mailed off. I think a heavy weight will be lifted once everything is complete & he becomes a citizen.

I think March is gonna be AWESOME!!! I'm hoping to hear something soon!!!

Hope everyone is well. Been a while so thought I'd stop by and say hello to all
I don't remember when I posted last in MENA but lots has happened for us and thought I'd share. 2011 was a good year, thank God.
The best was our son was born in 2011. Actually last month he turned one years old. The other great news is that we bought a house together. We go back and forth on whether we should stay in Minnesota or move to a warmer city but for now Minnesota is where we call home. We've had ups and down with work for my husband but thank God he is working again and is starting school this month as well.
We filed for the ROC in January. Biometrics is in a couple of weeks. Probably won't hear anything about it until the middle of summer.
So anyhow, I'll be popping in, usually over in the ROC section ,so I'll try and stop by over here as well to say hi.
I wish everyone well on this journey we call life. Take care all!

so the NGO trial wrapped up & the judge went back home and the 18 americans flew back home on an egyptian military aircraft safe & sound...damn so all of that was a publicity stunt from the military council!!!! thats not the military council i know!!! ...for all of my fellow VJers do not get startled by every news or article u see here & there, just like bank robberies -Most Daring Videos style with surveillance camera footage and everything- , alleged kidnaps and all of this bullshit that suddenly decided to happen all at once..all of that is part of a big ridiculous show from the MC production, another pathetic measure to pull back the country to its unfortunate past.

Kat (Beauty for Ashes), it sounds like you're still married to this guy. Hopefully you can find a way to divorce him and get him out of you and your kids' life for good. Going back and forth with this guy for over 3 yrs now with all the stories of physical and mental abuse is almost like at this point just looking like you're a glutton for punishment. Not saying that to be mean, just hope you can get out if not for yourself since maybe you might enjoy the drama, but for your kids! Take Care

I spoke with members of the local muslim community here yesterday. Some of them are Afghani. I asked them the same questions I asked here to try and understand the situation better. This was their consensus.
That to properly dispose of a Koran that is old and worn and ratty they burn it. That it is the intent of the person that makes the difference because they only do it if it is necessary and they do it with respect for the sacred book. The fact that the Quran's were sent out with the garbage at the base and burned like garbage is what made it considered a desecration to the Muslims in the region. This point is what infurated the masses.
They also said that the Afghan people do not understand why the West is there and that they are seen as an Imperialist nation exanding their empire and occupying their land. I asked them to explain their idea of imperialist nation and they said the US has a military base in nearly ever country in their region. If it wasn't for this the people of Afghanistan would no more give a thought to the United States than the people of the United States consider a country like Uzbekistan. That the people want the US out and it could have been any reason that started these riots and protests against the US but that this is probably a good enough reason and they don't forsee a de-escalation. That the US should probably get out. The Russians couldn't win and neither will the US. That's their words.

In a third day of riots 4 NATO soldiers and 2 US soldiers have died as a result of these protests. No matter what I can not see justification of taking human life for the burning of pieces of paper.
The religion claims to not worship idols or have idols. I can see how the foreign troops would want to destroy a tool being used to pass extremist communication. I know Sunni's are particular about now worshiping idols and Shites are different in that they don't care as much and have loads of pictures of the prophet and his heirs.
Does anyone know if their holy book is something they both agree about not defiling? Does a holy book claim exclusion from the not worshiping the idol thing? And as some have asked how does one dispose properly of an item like this with respect such as the procedure the US has with the flag?

Thanks for the info! My husband is from a village very close to Homs. Some of his extended family have been killed or injured. They're Christian and very afraid of what's next
