  1. Hi all - I had my interview today in NYC (Manhattan) My PD was 7/20/20

We waited about 40 minutes before we were called in. Our interviewer was very kind and understanding but also professional.

We first sat down and showed our passport + IDs. Then we had to stand up to swear to tell the truth. He asked for very specific things such as certified marriage certificate, birth certificates, I also had a new job since then so I provided an updated i-864 which he asked for. Next, we provided evidence of relationship, first we gave all the proof of joint accounts (credit, checking 6 months evidence), beneficiaries of my life insurance and 401k,  proof of dental, medical, and vision insurance. He also asked for an album of our photos together and took with him 2-3 and handed us the rest back.

We weren't asked many questions, only things such as the name of both parents, where I work, do I wfh, does my company have a physical office space, where my wife lived before we moved in together, did she have roommates. Other than that, the standard questions (yes/no) from the i-485.

One important thing here that we forgot to do, make sure to bring originals of both you and your spouse's birth certificates! We only had copies, mine was fine, but my wife needed to show her original copy. Luckily, he understood the reason and was able to check to make sure the copy + translation was in good standing. I know it's not always that they ask for the originals of the birth certificates, but I am told afterwards that it's not unusual that they ask during the interview.

Also don't forget to give the interviewer the sealed i-693 if you haven't already! We forgot and our interviewer kindly called us to come back to drop it off.

Finally, we were given a form stating that he will verify the birth certificate today and will approve the i-130 first. If everything cleared up, he would then approve the i-485. Just an hour ago, we just received a status change to "New Card is Being Produced."

Hope everyone here not only gets their interview scheduled, but also have successful interviews. Let me know if there are any questions and I will do my best to help answer them!

Can you share timeline. I know July 13 got scheduled April 14 and August 2020 got scheduled over the phone yesterday for today and got approved.

Hi - to add onto Celebi's post:

    PD: 07.14.2020

    Biometrics: Jan 5 2021

Status has been changed to "Interview Was Scheduled" today 04.14.2021

    New York City (Manhattan) Office

I hope you all move to interview stage soon

Yeah, it says “interview was scheduled”, but I thought that even after that update, the interview would take a long time to actually happen, considering their agenda is busy. Good to know that it could be faster than I was expecting. 🙂

Wow, congratulations. I filed around the same time as you and received the interview is ready to be scheduled on Jan 5th, but it hasn't changed to Interview was Scheduled yet :(

You can check it on USCIS: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

Brooklyn's processing time is 18-38 months. That's why I prefer to have my EAD and AP approved ASAP instead so I can work and travel back home even without the green card.

I am adjusting from tourist visa and I'm planning to have my medical exam taken probably after 1 year of my submission since it expires. I will keep on checking the processing times to see if it changes and will adjust my medical schedule as I see fit.

Did you apply for EAD and AP as well?

That's smart... we actually had the medical exam completed about 2 months ago, I hope we get an interview before we have to re-do it.

I heard some people got their interviews waived but for us, that seems pretty unlikely since they didn't receive our i-693 medical forms yet.

Yes - we applied for EAD and AP as well!

Yes. But being from Brooklyn, I'm sure that will be scheduled after a year or so. I just want my EAD so I can finally go back to working. LOL

Hey! I'm curious why you think that your interview will be scheduled so long ago when the status is now "case is ready to be scheduled for interview?"

I know COVID led to a lot of delays.. but was curious why you think it's that long. It sucks to know :( I'm also a July flier but in the NYC field office.

Also, did you submit i-693 along with your application?

    Thanks!

I have chatted via Emma live chat almost every week. On Oct 27th, I created a service request for my I-765 stating that I have not received my biometrics letter (this was advised by many). That service request is still unassigned till today. On Nov. 5, chatted with another agent and she created another service request for my I-485. That has not been assigned as well. I then called customer service 3x in different days and was very polite and nice (despite my frustrations LOL) but no changes as well. Last Wed, I chatted with another live agent and she created a new service request specifically for my I-765. I asked her if there is a way for me to expedite due to severe financial loss (no one anticipated Covid would stay in the US for this long) and she politely said she cannot expedite but she can have someone take a look at why there is a delay. On Sat morning, USPS Informed Delivery indicated I have a mail coming from USCIS. By some miracle, it was the biometrics appointment letter.

I have no idea why the agent did not see that a letter has already been mailed to me. I didn't ask to be transferred to Tier 2 as well. Maybe you can try having an SR created. You can create one yourself but I suggest you have a rep do it instead. Either call or do live chat (as early as 8AM or you'll have quite a long wait time).

Thanks! I had no idea that I can submit a service request since everytime I call and speak to a rep, the person just tells me that it is still within the timeframe due to covid. As true as that is, It was frustrating that I couldn't get any more updates other than that.

How many times did you submit a service request for the I-485? I'm thinking of submitting a service request for just my I-485 for now as that is the most important one for us right now.

I didn't send it. I received the USCIS letter yesterday and it was dated Nov 21. So it took 7 days (Thurs being holiday) for me to receive it.

My ASC is in Brooklyn, though at 60th Street.

Upon closer review, looks like I sent the package out July 11 and it was received July 14. Fingerprint fee was received July 27, all others July 14 and that was my last update.

Did you submit more than just AOS? I'm curious how closely mine matches to yours. If it was received July 26 ,  it looks like my application is behind.

  8. Hi - My wife and I are applying I-485, I-130, I-131, I-765 but we haven't heard any updates since July 27, 2020. We submitted the package sometime in May 2020.

    July 27, 2020 -

I-485 : Fingerprint fee was received

    I-130 : Case was received

    I-765 : Case was received

    I-131: Case was received

I called twice every 3-4 months and they said there were no updates at all yet. I didn't get the appointment to get biometrics done.

Does anyone know how much longer we will have to wait? I'm hoping for at least an update. I wonder if they are also doing interviews or planning to pass the people that they do not really need to interview?

    Thank you for your help.

Is your husband the American? If so he doesn’t need a valid passport - it won’t matter it’s expiring. If you do plan on renewing it however I suggest you do so ASAP - the longer you wait the longer it takes for you to receive it.

Yes - he is a US citizen. Oh, it won't affect his i-130 that he submitted? If so, then I will tell him that it is OK to renew it now. Chances are if we renew it now, we won't receive it for a few months due to the waiting times right now.

  10. Hi - We submitted our AOS package (i-130, i-485, i-765, i-131) last month and got notification of acceptance recently. We also got a notice for i-693 which we will get done soon.

However, my husband's passport is expiring September 3, 2020 and we saw that the waiting times for US passport renewal is pretty long, they are still working on April/May renewal applications and are fulfilling about 25% of each month's total applications.

We are worried that the passport renewal will take long and might affect us when it comes to the time we receive a interview notice and any RFE. Should I be concerned and how should I prepare? Would it be an issue explaining it to the office?

    Thank you!

  11. Hi all,

A quick question about the proof of assets for all the checking and savings account that I listed, how many months of the statements do I have to provide?

Also, in Part 4. Education and Skills ... I do not have any evidence of this but I studied at two US universities for my bachelor and master's degree, should I provide the coursework that has relevancy to english/writing proficiency? What other proof can I provide here?

    Thank you,
