Guys we made it. We are back in Chicago. The only issue we had was while check in Cancun. She needed to call CBP to verify we can enter, then she gave us our boarding passes. In the US we had to fill out a health questionnaire and that was it. Mexico (tulum and cancun) were really chilled.

Guys, wanted to give you an update. We rebooked our flight to the 13th and flew with AirCanada with a layover in Toronto (18h!!!) to  Cancun. We reached Cancun yesterday and all went well. The first checkin in Frankfurt was easy, they just checked if Mexico has any restrictions and checked if we have an eTA for Canada, which you also need even if you transit. The flight with AirCanada was a good experience. Not too crowded and we even got food twice during the flight. The airport in Toronto was also way less crowded than Frankfurt and we spent the night alone at the Terminal. The immigration in Cancun was super chilled, they just asked what we are doing here, we said vacation and visiting a friend, they asked for how long and let us in. So overall it was super easy to get in. Would definitely recommend flying through Toronto with AirCanada

I found a flight from Zagreb via Serbia to JFK though - https://www.momondo.com/flight-search/ZAG-JFK/2020-06-28/2adults?sort=bestflight_a
But again, it is only a flight per week

Yes that is what i meant, so from China, Schengen etc you can not travel even if you have a valid status, but from all other countries you can, which makes no sense. because why should it be allowed from other countries....for people that have tourist visas like B1 or so but not for someone who actually lives ther
By the way, is Puerto Rico an option. I havent seen any travel restrictions in place. Or would they have the same as the US?
