  1. Hi All,

My husband and I had our green card interview on June 16th, 2022 after adjusting status from K-1. The interview was a little odd... the guy didn't really ask us questions but just kind of chatted with us about the state that we live in. He didn't say we were approved or denied at the end and so I asked him, and he said "you were approved the day you got married and you should expect the green card in the mail in two weeks". Well it's now been two months and still no green card. The status on the website still says Interview Scheduled. It doesn't have a decision or acknowledge that the interview already happened. Should I be worried?

Hi Alex- are you looking to get married in Ethiopia? Yes, you need a non-marriage certificate to get married in Ethiopia.

For all of you still here, we got our appointment scheduled today for later this month! They even had April 9th open. We actually got an appointment earlier than the original one we had picked to print out the bank form. Hang in there!

Awesome!! When is your appointment? We just paid the bank yesterday and now we're ready to schedule an appointment- just waiting for one to open up. It's awesome to see all of us moving forward now! :)

Looks like we finally did get our packet, so maybe expect it in a month and some days at the most?

Also, if anyone knows. When we opened the usvisa-info site, after checking for a day or two a date finally popped up. We clicked it and it then led us to instructions to pay for the visa at the Bank of Abyssinia. Did that today and it was approved letting us move on to scheduling. How exactly does scheduling work though? We chose a date initially before the payment (you have to choose an open date to actually pay) but now it has moved us from the payment to scheduling page and it says no times are available. Is it going to eventually give us times on that first date that we picked or does the NVC/embassy actually assign us a date and time?

Did you get your packet as an email?

The embassy should send an email to the beneficiary soon.  You can get a head start by looking up what's needed for Packet 3 for Ethiopia.  Some of the common items are police clearance certificate(s), birth certificate, passport size photos, a new set of signed Intent to Marry within 90 days letters from both of you, and the US citizen petitioner filling out the I-134.  Then also filling out and paying for the DS-160, scheduling the medical and scheduling the interview.

Ok thanks friend. How do I look up Packet 3 for Ethiopia?

for Morocco there is now only 1 K1 interview scheduled /  probably one that was cancelled last spring

the embassy still is very restricted as to what they can do as Morocco citizens need a paper giving them permission to travel from city to city and even to get on a plane

Even after things open up,  your petition will be at the back of a long line of those already in embassy waiting for interviews to open as so many were cancelled

    Patience and prayers are needed

How can you see how many K-1 interviews are scheduled at your embassy?

    Hi All,

I know there have been a few of you who are waiting for the Ethiopian Embassy to start interviews again. I just wanted to post an update saying my fiance had her interview today and she was approved!

Our documentation was spot on because of visa journey. Her interview was 10 minutes and the only real question of note asked was where did we meet?

Our original interview date was March 19th if I remember correctly so we may have been at the front of the line for getting interviews. I just logged in one day and it said your interview is scheduled.

ohhh friend this makes me so happy! Thanks for sharing! Can you tell us briefly what sort of documentation you brought?

Hi everyone. Me and my fiance were just given the opportunity today to schedule an appointment at the US embassy in Addis ET. Does anyone have insight or info as to how far out we should schedule ? We are considering options in mid-late Feb. The sooner the better.. but also want to leave time for the Medical and vaccination part. With COVID the medical facilities may be overloaded.

Thanks in advance, also im happy to give others details who are applying for visas from Ethiopia  and currently being processed still.

I am so happy to hear this!! We're waiting to be able to schedule a k-1 interview in Addis too and you give me such hope!

Hear me out, this is a serious question.  As my wife and I go into our third year of this process with no end in sight, it seems there must be a point when enough is enough.  We finally got through NVC stage after 19 months from filing, only to be stonewalled by a covid-closed consulate for almost a year so far with no opening in sight.

The solution is simple, let my wife immigrate on a conditional basis until the offices can open and the government can start processing again.  We would be more than happy to go anywhere at any time later for the proper interview.  CR-1s have to do this anyway and it's not a problem.  Give every I-130 spouse who's cleared NVC CR-1 status until they can process us properly.

So who do I need to talk to?  My Representative?  My Senators?  Surely we're not alone in this situation nor in the belief that it's completely ridiculous.  We're trying to do the right thing here, going about it the legal way, but we're in our prime years and have to spend them apart because of a situation that could very easily be remedied with no loss to anybody.  We've been patient but nobody should have to put up with this.  Who's with me?  How do we participate in democracy and make the government work for us?

I wrote to my senators and representatives and they tried to help me as best as they could, they wrote to the embassy on my behalf and are following my case- but the only information they could get from the embassy was what I have already heard a million times "due to covid routine visa services are suspended and we cannot give  date when they will resume" blah blah. So it wasn't very helpful. Joining the k-1 lawsuits is probably the closest we have to enacting change on this.

Hey Jesse, the embassy in Addis has been closed since March and hasn't been conducting interviews for K1s, IR1/CR1, etc. since then. (Aside from a handful of people that got their cases expedited for emergency reasons). The embassy hasn't been communicating well either, so I empathize with you feeling in the dark like the rest of us.

If you do a search in VJ for ethiopia/addis ababa, you will find some posts and comments this week from people who finally got interviews scheduled for January 2021! It looks like these folks are IR1/CR1 AND K1 visa categories, so luckily I don't think the US embassy in Addis will go the route of ignoring K1 visas, like some other embassies were/are. The people that have been given interviews this month were DQd/ready at the NVC in December 2019, and had their original interviews scheduled in March/April 2020. Depending on where you fall in your approval date with the NVC, you should be able to get an idea of when you might get an interview, assuming the embassy stays open for a bit.

Best of luck to you, and stay sane :)

Also, it would be really helpful for everyone on here going through the Addis embassy if you update your timeline! There aren't many of us, and the more information we have from people on here, the better everyone else is able to gauge how long the process will take.

Hi fellow Addis Ababa Embassy filer! My case is also still at the NVC waiting to be sent to Embassy. I guess not much for us to do at this point, but you can call NVC and they will give you your invoice number so you can follow your case on the CEAC website. Hope that helps! Good luck

  11. Hi Everyone,

My case has been at NVC since July. The embassy in Addis is just now starting to resume fiance and spousal interviews. I had called NVC and got my case number so I can check my case on the CEAC and it still says At NVC. My question is- I never received any packet or email from NVC. Should I have? Or do they send it after they send our petition to embassy? Is there something I am missing? I don't know what we're supposed to be doing other than waiting.

    Thanks.

I submitted my expedite request to the NVC expedite e-mail, including case number, full name and DOB and invoice number in the body of the e-mail.

I gave documentation for why it was necessary to expedite his case, including my own mental illness diagnoses and mention of the war in Tigray. I also wrote a letter to them and my immigration lawyer complimented that with his own letter and had everything in one PDF document

I'm happy it worked out for you. I was worried for you with your husband in Tigray, so I am glad you got your expedite.

We also tried to expedite using the war as our reason (it was a long shot I know) and we were denied. It appears they are working on spousal visas now and hopefully us fiance visas will be soon after.

    Wishing you two the best!

Has this happened to anyone? Our case was expedited and is now at the US embassy in Ethiopia.

Last week they sent us an e-mail with detailed instructions for medical exam and other required documents, but NO date.

In the e-mail they said: "Please find the attached instruction for immigrant visa process. Once you have completed all the requirements listed, email us at AddisIV@state.gov so that we can schedule you for interview."

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I thought usually you receive a date BEFORE the medical exam, because that's what the medical examiner would want to see. The attached letter isn't even addressing my husband's full name. Is this a mistake on the embassy, or a new policy? I was hoping to get the interview date so I could fly there to help him for the last stretch.

I tried calling the embassy and they refused to be of any help, and just insisted that I e-mail them, which I already did 5 days ago.

    Sorry, a little frustrated now.

I'm so happy to see some interviews in Ethiopia now! Can I ask how you got your expedite?

Vent all you want, it's perfectly OK to do so here, and with whatever help we as a forum can provide, we will do so!  Hopefully your K-1 gets issued in the near future!

Thanks friend! Everyone here is so supportive. I don't know what I'd do without visajourney.

Also- Brazil is my favorite country. Not sure why you and your loved one would want to leave ;) lol

According to the embassy website, the interview waiver program for B1/B2 renewals is available in Ethiopia.  Many of those B1/B2 visas issued in November are probably visa renewals that did not require interview.  This is the case for many embassies worldwide where this dropbox renewal option is available.  So it doesn't really eat into the interview scheduling for immigrant visas.  This site says Addis Ababa is still not taking appointments for routine B1/B2 interviews -- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/wait-times.html

Ahhh that makes sense. That makes me feel better.
