  1. Hello Everyone,

I would truly appreciate advice you might have for me

I'll be moving to the US  in a month or so and whilst researching on options for Health insurance in NY I realised that I would be eligible for the Essential Plan form the providers in the market place if my income meets the threshold 12,000 - 25,000 per year.

So I'm thinking can go ahead and start looking for jobs prior to my arrival in order to start work immediately after I arrive. I would prefer work that I can do from home

Do you think this is a good plan or am I missing something

My mum is the US citizen and she's 70 plus

According to this report, Lagos has issued between around 3500 and 9500 immigrant visas per year since 2011. Even though there will always be more interviews than visas issued, the 400 thousand number seems at least an order of magnitude off.

Thanks for pointing that out, that was my error .this is the link above and it covers all over the world not specifically Nigeria.

    Apologies

Dqed December 14 2020... it's been frustrating not knowing what is going on!!

There's a backlog of over 400000 immigrant visas to schedule in Lagos, this includes those who were scheduled for interview and it was cancelled, includes those from 2020 who were ready for interview scheduling and were affected by ban , includes thos who were not affected by bans as well as those who got DQ since the ban was lifted

That's not how it works. America through its embassies organize a flight to bring stranded people back to America. They never even announce what airline is used, the embassy select the people, and America citizens are first priority.

You are misinformed Ma'am. Embassies can schedule evacuation flights I am not referring to registering for Evacuation flights via US consulate directly- that is different from what I am saying.

I am referring to the return leg of evacuation flights ( in this case it is Nigerians returning to Nigeria) out of Nigeria which is publicly available on airlines websites.  Ethiopian airlines and Emirates in particular. If you can get to Lome - Ethiopian will fly you to Newark.

Right here on visajourney Nigerians have left Nigeria on return legs of evacuation flights - information that was readily available on airline website, e.g Emirates .

I know of Nigerians with residence permits in Canada and even a KI visa that left in the last two weeks. Via emirates and Ethiopian airlines

When did you find this out? I haven't heard this news. I also thought the airlines were only open to full service for domestic flights only as of right now. Any info is greatly appreciated.

It has been communicated on their website that they are attending to emergencies, and a few people who required vistiors visas to accompany us citizen for evacuation have reported that they had interviews.

    About international flights?

Air france , Emirates and Ethiopian airlines who have evacuated Nigerians back to Nigeria have flights out of Nigeria were they have said if you have VALID RESIDENT PERMIT or PASSPORT of a country that they are flying to or you can get a connecting flight to they will let you pay and board. And these are not evacuation flights out of Nigeria. Their websites have info of their flights.

An evacuation flight from the US arrived this Saturday or so , I am pretty sure a flight out of Lagos will be due soon.

We got notice yesterday that evacuation flight was already full.

You don't need an evacuation flight

Just contact airlines that are evacuating people back to Nigeria

Simply check for their return flights and ensure your can get a flight to your designation from wherever the Airline's route is.

I would attempt to reach out to them. As far as I know the embassy is closed. If I remember correctly I read earlier here someone in Lagos showed up, and they and a bunch of other people who were waiting outside were told all interviews were cancelled and that due to backlog they were unable to email everyone about cancellation

    Oooh,

    Thanks very much.

  8. Hello

My interview is next week in Lagos, Covid19 is causing travel restrictions on movement. We are moving to a shutdown.

I wouldve have thought US consulate would have rescheduled immigrant interviews but the only communication is for nonimmigrant interviews.

Im quite concerned - I cant reschedule my appointment right?

Secondly I dont have the original Police certificate that I submitted, I only have photocopies. Do I need to get a new one?

  9. Hello everyone,

I hadn't joined before cos of the brouhaha about the ban

    DQ - Jan 14

    IL - Feb 24

    Interview date is 31st March

    F1

For those who have done medicals I have 5months plus validity on my International passport is this a really strict rule, would they still do the medicals if I book.

Same with the interview date - by then I'd be 5months validity.

Renewing a passport in my country Nigeria can sometimes take awhile

  10. Hello,

I hope its okay to ask for advice here even though mine is a F1 case

So we submitted our documents for our application

I am an adult child of a US citizen so F1 application

Mum is US citizen and is retired so we got my cousin to be co-sponsor.

The first RFE we got was a minor error on his i864 which was corrected ( his name was not written properly). So on the ceac site it said rejected, when we uploaded the corrected one it allowed us to submit.

2 weeks later we received 4 messages for FE,

    i) They asked for his marriage certificate ( he listed his wife and dad as his household members)

ii) The asked for citizenship or LPR status of his wife and Dad

iii) They asked for tax transcripts for wife and Dad (by the way the wife works and He put in her income as part of household income, his Dad is retired)

iv) They said both wife and Dad should fill i864a

I do not know why ( iii -iv) are necessary since his own income is well above the required level . He earns over 100k.

Why would his Dad and wife need to fill i864a

Lastly - how do I submit these documents since on the home page it just says 'accepted'

Would I still be able to submit? or are these documents supposed to be brought to the interview

PS. My case has been current for about 6months now.
