  1. Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue, as I am perplexed. We receieved a RFE that we need to send a copy of the birth certificate.

However, I submitted the long form birth certificate, that was ordered from Sweden and stamped with the small round seal from the Swedish Tax Agency's (i.e., followed exact instructions from the travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html). So i am totally confused what the RFE is for.

If anyone is from Sweden reading this, does my marital status on the extract of population register need to be updated to indicate I am married and this is why USCIS rejected it? If yes, I am not sure how to go about this because my marriage certificate was submitted to Sweden and there is a back log for updating it in their system.

If anyone has experienced this please let me know how you handled it. Thank you!!!!

I hope more knowledgeable folks will chime in, but I think I have seen a few K1's that this has caused problems for because USCIS thinks the visa holder left the country on the return flight (even if they didn't, may be problems with the cancellation for the return flight) therefore disqualifying them when it comes time to Adjust Status.  If I'm remembering correctly it can cause big problems for a very few people because yes a lot of people opt for the less expensive round trip ticket.  If you do it, be careful, remember to cancel the return flight, and document it.  It sounds really rare for it to be a problem, but if it's your problem you'll feel differently.

This is what I was curious about - thank you for sharing!

Sorry, I've flown a lot, and never seen a round trip cheaper than a one way for the same destination.  Yes, the one way might be almost the price of the round trip but I have NEVER seen it cheaper.  If you don't mind, as I'm super curious, what is the arrival/destination you are searching that a round trip is cheaper than a return ticket?

Also, they don't look at your tickets during the K1 visa interview, so it's not important anyways.  They even advise you not to buy tickets until you are already approved.

Nonstop flight from Stockholm, Sweden to Philadelphia, PA, USA or Newark, NJ, USA!

And we already receieved approval. Wasnt sure if it would be a problem at the border or at time of AOS.

Does anyone know how long the medical exam visit in Gothenburg takes? i.e. if you need to plan to visit the clinic for a couple of days to complete the process or if it's usually enough with one day.

I am traveling from Stockholm so just trying to figure out how to book hotel tickets.

My fiance had his a few weeks ago! He left at 4am to drive there and drove back the same day! His dad went with him, they also had lunch after the interview. Definetely was an all day fiasco but he was happy to have it done with in one shot and didnt want to pay any additional fees on top of the medical exam cost!

Ps: he really likes the gothenburg physician :)

    goodluck!

  5. Hi!

If you do not have your vaccine history documentation, can you go to a local clinic to have bloodwork done to find out ehuch vaccines you need, and receive the vaccines locally private to the k1 medical exam (i.e., instead of having the bloodwork and vaccines administered at the medical exam)?

    Thank you!

Thank you for the update. It is helpful.  Shameful how long everyone has had to wait on this process.  I am happy that you are sooo close!

Thank you! And agreed, it has been a crazy year!!!

Congratulations on his interview getting scheduled!  You may want to consider checking the physician in Gothenburg.  They may have an earlier time.

My husband had his medical exam recently in Stockholm.  They scheduled it the week before his interview (similar to what you describe he could not schedule one earlier) and he too needed an antibody test for a missing shot.  At the day of the interview, the Embassy had not received his medical exam results (and another civil document he forgot that day).  They gave him a refusal notice which basically said he had up to a year to provide the missing documents.  His status changed to Refused.  The doctor's office sent the medical exam results to the Embassy electronically that next week and mailed him all of the exam documents (which you will need to enter the U.S.) about a week later.  After the Embassy received in the mail the missing civil document his status changed to Administrative Processing.  It was a quick turnaround at the Embassy for his visa to be Issued (about a week).

    Thank you for this information!!!

Does anyone have any updated news on where Stockholm is on interviews for K1?  Last I heard was that they were working on April/May 2020.

We received NOA2 in late February 2020. We were contacted about 1 month ago for scheduling purposes and are scheduled for interview mid August. Not sure if that is helpful!

  8. Hi everyone!

My fiance's interview is scheduled for August 19th in Stockholm. He tried to book the medical exam last month and the Stockholm clinic told him to email email in mid June to schedule.

Yesterday my fiance contacted the clinic to schedule the exam and they told him that the physician is fully booked up until the point in which he will be transferring to a new clinic. And that the new clinic would reach out to my fiance for scheduling purposes.

Anyone else run into this issue? My fiance does not have his vaccine records so will need test done at appt and/or receive required vaccines.

Any input appreciated :) thank you all!

It's pretty bad. There's even some April filers that are still waiting on EADs:

Even if you have a job offer it's pretty rare to get EAD without doing biometrics inside of the US. (c)(9) category EADs are only processed at National Benefits Center: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ "4 Months to 9 Months" right now; always subject to change

Wow, that is wild!! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Hi everyone,

This might be a silly question but, while I could have joined this lawsuit (i.e., fiance in country barred.by PP; NOA2 approved feb 2020, visa payment submitted etc) I worry about the EAD processing timeline in USA, as well as the hiring freezes at companies here. Is this not a concern for others (i.e., they are not worried about their fiance finding a job here during pandemic) or is the EAD process/job market doimg better than I was aware of?

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to share your input and experience!

    I’m so sorry!! 😔

We found out in September that I am pregnant and it’s a very high risk pregnancy.  So we were able to get an emergency interview and thankfully were approved. He arrived in November and we got married one week ago. Baby is coming in May!

My heart goes out to all of you who are still waiting. This process is an exhausting one, even without a pandemic. Your time is coming!! Don’t give up!!!

Oh my goodness, I am so glad they expedited this for you guys! Congratulations!!! Wishing you a safe delivery ... May will be here before you know it :)

  12. Hi everyone!

Just wondering if anyone has any insight regarding the k1 visa MRV fee? I believe it is valid for 1 year. Anyone know if this will be extended due to Schengen area EO border ban? Hope so!

We were in the midst of scheduling medical and interview when the EO went into place in March 2020. Are people that had medical completed going to need to pay to have it completed again since it has been longer than 6 months?

Here's hoping this comes to an end soon!!

My husband is 60+ and belongs to a risk group for Covid19 due to high blood pressure. He's living alone and we stated he needed the support of me in case he becomes ill with Covid19. Also, I live in a multigenerational family so it would be safer for me as well to join my husband in the US.

Yes, the visa we applied for is an IR1. We've been married 2 years.

Thanks for getting back to me! Best of luck to you and your family during these crazy times!!

Just a thought, please don’t bite my head off if you think it’s completely stupid.

With this new EO set to be signed today, it now lists non-immigrant visas that are banned until the end of the year but K1 isn’t on the list... could this work well in our favour ? Or do you think we’ll just be brushed to side (again) ?

While I would love to be hopeful, i do not think that they will be processing K1 visas, as Trump's intent is to limit the distribution of green cards in order to 'protect American jobs'. The K1 visa only gets you into the country to get married, then you need to apply to adjust your status to get your green card and authorization to work in the country. I honestly cannot imagine that he would be willing to let anyone get in the way of his beloved economy. Ugh.

Again, I could be wrong. My fiance is in Sweden and his i129f approval expired June 3rd and we needed to request an extension, which is now good until September. So i am banking on needing to submit another extension.

Im so sorry for what everyone is going through

    :(

I am on my way to an emergency interview in Stockholm, Sweden at this very moment. We were DQ March 16 and wrote the Stockholm embassy requesting an expedite May 12th, telling them we were already DQ. The embassy then asked NVC to send our case to them, which NVC did. NVC informed us of their actions via mail but the only correspondence we have had is with the embassy. The embassy approved our expedite request.

Hi, what was your reason that you were able to request an emergency interview in Stockholm. That is where my fiance is, but it looks like you might be filing under an immediate relative? Thank you!
