My interview got scheduled today. I filed on October 27th (3 year rule), biometrics re-used, interview notice Jan 8th and interview date Feb 27th. Field Office is San Antonio, TX. Estimated time until case decision shows 7 months

Finally had my interview today, for some reason the one above got cancelled and then re-scheduled a few days later but with a new interview date.  The interview was very conversational and began with the IO requesting for my green card, ID and passport. The IO asked if there were any changes since the application and I provided information on my new job. This was then followed by the english test then the civics questions. The IO then asked about my travel history since I got my green card and I talked about an 11 month trip I took in 2019-2020 where I basically got stuck in my home country during Covid. This trip was not mentioned on my form since it was outside the 3 year statutory period and the IO did not seem overly concerned about it. The IO then went over the yes no questions and then informed me that my application was approved.

I was then ushered back to the waiting room where a few minutes later we were called to a counter and provided with our oath ceremony appointment letters with the oath ceremony happening a week from today. My USCIS status also got updated fairly quickly and now shows " Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed"

Thanks to this community for sharing your experiences and to all those still waiting, you got this!

I naturalized fine being outside more than 6 months, less than a year. I timed the filing so that the 5 year look back made the 'counted' days of the trip 179 days, so as not to break continuous residence. If it says 180, depending on officer, I can see them complaining about it. 181+ the burden is on you to prove you did not abandon residency, which is a whole other headache.

Curious about this, so the trip was not discussed at all during the interview or was it discussed but was a non-factor? Also, what residential address had you put on your form for that period you were away, a US address or a foreign address? TIA

You still need to wait 2 years and 9 months because you reset once you return to the US. You wouldn't start counting until the first day back.

Thank you for this response. According to uscis.gov you can actually wait 4 years and 6 months (or 2 years and 6 months) for marriage based naturalization as can be seen below

" If the same applicant reapplies for naturalization at least 4 years and 6 months after reestablishing residence in the United States, he or she would not be subject to the presumption of a break in residence because the period of absence immediately preceding the application date is now less than 6 months. " https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-d-chapter-3

What is not clear is what date to put for the box for "Date you left the usa" when listing your trips since after waiting the 2 years 6months your original departure date is now outside the 3 year window.

The system calculates the start of the out of country date as the 5 years ago date, rather than the full trip if it started before that (I think that’s what you’re asking?)

    Hi @SusieQQQ

Does it mean if your trip started outside the 5 year window the system will not allow you to put the actual departure date since it falls outside the window? Or does it allow you to put the actual departure date but then does its own calculation on your length of absence? Thanks

  5. Hello guys,

If you take a long trip abroad longer than 6 months but less than 1 year and decide to wait 2 years and 6 months from your return date to apply for naturalization (by way of marriage), what date should one then put as the departure date when listing the trips abroad in the past 3 years since you were still outside the country at the beginning of the 3 year window?

Does filing online make a difference than filing a paper application? I think I read elsewhere that if you file online, the system will not allow you to put a date older than the 3 year window so the only date you would be able to put is the earliest date of your 3 year window which would mean your trip is under 6 months, Is this correct?

    Thank you!

Hey guys this is my final update

11th November - Card is in production

13th November - Card has been mailed. No tracking number has been provided so I contacted USCIS who informed me that the number has not been generated yet.

14th November - Status updated to Card has been mailed but this time with a tracking number  was included in the message.

15th November - Card received in the mail.

Overall it took a total of 26 days after POE

All the best to those still waiting for their cards, it can really be nerve wrecking checking for updates daily even with email and sms alerts setup.
