This is such a good idea. I am in Sales Management and have been apart of all local chambers for years.
My clients our IT and I had a few jobs for Ryan to start interviewing at after authorization to work.
He has already went with me to a few networking events to meet them in person to see if he would be a good fit.
He happened to hit it off really well with a client of mine (IT) in the Gvt sector and they want him to start in June.
Chambers are such a great way to get your name out in the job market and meet potential employers.
Good luck OP, you will find work. I firmly believe in networking yourself to find what fits for you and employer.

Thanks a lot.I needed these encouraging words.

I know someone looking for Human Resources too and has the same problem.

People may also be hesitant when they see the resume and all prior experience is from a different country, they might judge the situation unfairly thinking you need sponsorship or something.

The policies for sure are different so you'll have to study up on that.

But I think you have to start from the ground up, somewhat in that field would still be preffered.

    Thanks

When I found out my visa was approved, I started applying for jobs on various hiring platforms....Indeed, Monster, GlassDoor, etc. Everyone who reached out for hiring me was either an Insurance company or a Financial services company....SALES! Sales is not my forte so I kept pressing on looking for administrative work since that is what I knew and what I did before resigning to relocate to the US. I left a full-time job with benefits in Trinidad to come up here and start over.....many times, this is what we sacrifice when making this move to be with our spouse in America.

I eventually was hired a month after coming to US as a Call Center agent for a phone company where I learned a lot of technical troubleshooting skills for phones, routers, etc. I moved up in that company quickly because I'm a fast learner and after 4 months, I was an Escalation Supervisor handling customer complaints for the same company. My work experience from that phone company led me down the path to where I am now....a Provisioning Engineer for a global Cyber Security company.

I didn't take education in the US but I'm making $60k+ a year, working full-time from home with the knowledge I've retained since working in the US.

I've shared my experience above to show you that your time is coming for you to settle in, accept what comes/try something you never know you may be good at.....find your niche! 😎

Quite encouraging..I beleive soon will be here with a testimony. Thanks!

I strongly recommend you to check out Ask a Manager. It's a great resource about the job market in the US and the job hunting advice is top notch. There might be something off-putting in your resume, for example, and you might have no idea.

While Costco (and retail in general) is always an option, you might want to consider office jobs first. You could apply to be a receptionist for example or to do data entry. Temp jobs are a great way to get started, too. In my experience, zip recruiter is the best job searching website, indeed is kind of decent but I don't know if that's the case for your field and location. Here in California the job market is strong but that's not necessarily the case

Thanks for the insight.will check my resume.

I found it super difficult too! We are on the East coast and it’s taken me months! Endless online applications, even spending $100 printing and posting my resume old skill to try and stand out.

Quite frankly applying for jobs was a full time job. The daily effort and perseverance finally paid off and I landed a coveted state job this week, with state benefits.

    keep on trucking!

I will keep going. Thanks for encouragement!

I applied for different positions from my home country the moment I had my visa and knew when I would move. Skype interviews late at night due to the time difference, crazy times! 😁

Had my live job interview 3 days after I arrived and a started my job 2 weeks after arrival. It’s not a job like I had ‘back home’ but at least it’s a job and I kind of knew I had to start my career from scratch again.. 😉

    Good luck and stay positive!

    Thanks.I will keep positive.Thanks again.

What field? What's your employment history? How's the market for jobs in your field in your area?

It really varies a lot. My wife was offered 2 positions right away. She's a nurse and there's a shortage of nurses in my area.

Somebody who works as - just one example - a business/office manager may have a harder time as approaches and methods may be different. They may have to take a position lower than what they had before and work their way back up. They may even need to work in other fields for a bit.

Human resources. I will keep positive and not be too choosy..I believe once I know the systems I will climb my way up.Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

When Mrs. T-B. arrived from Ecuador, one of the weirdest things that she encountered became one of her favorites.  The concept of resale/thrift shops, and that of garage & estate sales, was foreign to her.  She very quickly filled her closet with high-quality clothes (often designer names) at bargain prices, and she viewed these experiences as "treasure hunts."

As far as making friends, smile at everyone and say "Hi!"  See who responds.

Waoh..this is awesome..Just got here a week ago.I would really love this..I will try out I'm in houston.

I flew to Jamaica on 9/12 to take my step daughter to her interview on 9/13. I was told she was approved but they needed an I864A for my husband. I submitted the information the same day. I have checked CEAC religiously for an update and finally today it says "READY" Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at:http://nvc.state.gov/interview

Does anyone have any idea what this means?? Does my step daughter have to do ANOTHER interview???

No not necessarily to go for 2nd interview.mine went from ready to Ap then issued today.be patient all will go well.

Hi, I have a F4 case. And we had interview once Since July-16-2019 in US embassy based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The interview went well except the consulate requested for a joint sponsor for the case. We have submitted joint sponsors but they keep rejecting it due to low in income of the joint. And 2 weeks ago, I sent them an email stating that the main petitioner (My aunt), have a huge savings in bank account, and the saving amount is enough to petition for the case. And I asked them whether the savings can be used or not. And recently, I have just found another joint sponsor just in case; and I have submitted the document to CEAC platform before checking the CEAC status. While checking for the CEAC status, it's already changed from AP to Ready. What does this kind of situation mean? Does it mean the consulate doesn't need any joint sponsor anymore? And is my case going to be rejected? And do we need to have another interview? And the joint sponsor documents that are just newly-added, do I need to delete it from the CEAC when the status already shown READY?  Please help!!!

PS: The embassy hasn't responded to any email we sent two weeks ago, and I have sent another just to clarify the situation. But it might takes over a week just to wait for their response. So I posted it here instead. Help and assistance will be appreciated!

Mine too changed from Ap to ready...🤔maybe we will get an answer here.
