As Paul&Mary suggested, use Google Flights. Kayak is another website. That's how I found the $405 flight.

I don't know where you're flying from, but I've paid $650-750 r/t when flying to Indonesia from the west coast. From the east cost (DC), it cost me $750-1000 roundtrip. Jakarta is usually the cheapest place to fly to (in my experience).

I’ve been using Kayak and it’s been the cheapest, I just tried google flights and I couldn’t find anything cheaper.

I found a flight as cheap as $405 right now round trip towards the end of October between LAX and DPS.  Visa on arrival is free.  Lodging is cheap.  Why don't you invest in a 2 week trip before investing in something much more serious.

That was actually the plan now, for me to take a month long trip to see her. The cheapest flight I could find was $400 each way. How did you find it so cheap? The rest like food and hotel is very cheap. Thanks for the help!

Dude, there is no way in hell the US Embassy in Jakarta was open on Labor Day.

As for living in Indonesia, I think your one option is to teach English there. The biggest language school chain there is English First.

Thanks for the help, but I don’t qualify for that since I don’t have a bachelors degree in anything. Any other options? Or is the same rules as coming to America?

    This is incorrect.

This is correct, I have video proof of the people working there saying this.

How?  US embassies are closed today.

It says on their website that they are closed, but they are not. They are open. At least the one in Jakarta is.

Doesnt matter anyway, now I am looking into moving to Indonesia for a year, can anyone point me in the right direction for information on that?

  5. So for anyone who cares, here’s an update.

She went to the US Embassy in Indonesia and they explained everything to her. Her best method is a K-1 Visa (which many of you said) and there are a few requirements for that. We need to provide proof that we have been together for two years and we need to visit each other at least once.

We both decided that even though we have only been together for about a month, we will work to be together for two years and I will visit her sometime next year. Thank you for all your help and advice!

Did you post this same topic on Reddit?  If so then you were given very good advice on that thread as well. You would need to go there to see her and either get engaged or get married.

The K1 visa is roughly 9-12 months until she can come to the USA. You two get married and then file for AOS for her. She will then can't work for 3-5 months until the EAD is in hand.

The CR1 visa takes 12-16 months on average but you get ABC right away.

Thanks man/woman, you are very helpful! But what is an AOS and EAD?

You can travel to Indonesia, get married there, and then petition for a spousal visa for her.  Or, in the unlikely event that she is approved for a B-2 visitor's visa, she could come here, marry you, then return to Indonesia to wait until the petition is approved.

Either way - approx one year till approval.

So if I did visit her there, marry her, and wait for her visa to here be approved, if worst case scenario she decided to divorce me, what would I lose in that situation?

I don't think you made that clear in your initial post. The easiest method is for you two to get hitched. You can do it via the K-1 visa (and you two would have to get married within 90 days of moving here) or the Cr-1 visa (you two would get married first).

She could also look into becoming an au pair (J-1 visa). If her current employer has offices here in the USA, then maybe the L1 would be an option. There is also the H1b and H2b, but they're already full for FY19 I think.

Like I said, go visit her. Can't hurt.

Thank you. I think this is the most helpful post in the entire thread. I assumed the K-1 was the easiest method, just wondering if it was true. Thanks you.

Ha, if there was a general visa that would allow someone to move to the US, I don't think there would be many illegal immigrants then!

Her one option at this point is a tourist visa (b2). The odds of her getting a visa are pretty low though, assuming she's a single, Indonesian woman. Many are denied.

Why don't you go visit her instead?

I don’t think you understand. She wants to permanently move to the US. What’s the easiest method of doing that?

The obvious answer is by plane.

If she does not have a US Visa then she would need to get one first.

I don’t know if you are being a smart guy or not, but that’s pretty funny! 😂

I mean which US Visa is the easiest and best one for her to get? I was under the assumption she could just get a general one that allows her to just move here, but apparently that’s not an option. Is there any other way?
