Hi @TreverR - when did your wife renew her work permit? My husband and I are also stuck waiting on our interview and his current work permit expires mid-September.
We filed for his renewal back in May 12 and have an IOE receipt number assigned to the case. From what I’ve read, cases with “IOE” receipt numbers typically process quickly (1-2 months) because they are done electronically… my husband’s case is pushing four months now.
I'm in the same situation,I send my papers in April because my combo card will expire in the end of September. And I'm still waiting ,I even called uscis and they told me it can take 10months for the renew.
Basically I'm losing my job if they dont renew it till the end of next month .I'm so frustrated.

@Raluca&Will, did you already file for renewal? You have to submit both the I-765 and I-131 forms. The EAD NOA/receipt gives you an automatic extension for 180 days. I do not think that is the case with AP.
I send my doc for renewal in April.

I send my doc in the end of April 2020 and still no interview.
My ead and ap will expire in September I hope they will send me the renewal soon.

Oh really why? I was told its okey to travel with the old name in the passport and just bring the marriage certificate and all the supporting documents to show on the way back to the US. I haven't changed my name in the passport either and was planning to travel back to my home country in April but I am having second thoughts about it since its the pandemic and a lot can happen like candles flights, closed borders, etx.
You can call your embassy to check it.
They told me its illegal to travel with "false ", documents.i know it's not true but I didnt wanted to have surprises .especially because I would have a layover in Istanbul and they are strict with the documents

Thank you!

Hello everyone !
Someone traveled outside usa just with ap? I need to go back in my country for a month and a half and I'm so scared if they wont let me get back here.
My interview for aos it wont be anytime soon just because in Washington dc the processing time is 15month .
Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone.i have great news.
After another app that I had today (I found an empty spot last night ,lucky me), this time I brought my noa1 for aos and my app that I had for biometrics.
After they resent all the papers to dmv in Richmond I received an email after an hour that all my papers are ok and good to do the driving exam.
I am excited that the problem was solved.
Thank you all for advices!

I’m in Virginia too and was able to get a DL on my K-1 visa (unexpired I-94) and with my I-485 Noa1. You should be able to get one with an EAD alone. It’s probably an easier process than mine too. Had to visit the DMV multiple times because they kept giving me problems. I recommend you visit a different DMV next time. I had to go to like 3 different ones.
I went to tappahannock.
My mistake was that I didnt had my no1 for aos.i had just the approval for ead and ap and the card.
I will go back there tomorrow even I dont have an app.to see what they will say.

Where I did mine they were used to dealing with unusual situations, certainly seen it suggested you try a different office.
I will go monday at the same office and I need them to find a solution .because its ridiculous ,not being able to drive when I have an ead

From my experience here in Fla I had to wait a month after getting my EDA to be able to apply for dl. SSN plus EDA and 2 bills in your name with one same address.
It pass almost 2 months since I received my ead.plus is crazy how long you have to wait for an app at dmv

I think in this case it says I-797 when it really should say I-797C. If you look at REAL ID Act of 2005, section 202(c)(2)(B)(ix) it reads:
(B) EVIDENCE OF LAWFUL STATUS- A State shall require, before issuing a driver's license or identification card to a person, valid documentary evidence that the person--
(ix) has a pending application for adjustment of status to that of an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States or conditional permanent resident status in the United States.
I honestly think @Raluca&Will should go back there with EAD and I-485 receipt in hand if they give them issues again demand a manager and whip out the relevant law. I know of DACAers who had similar issues and had to show a C33 EAD and I-821D approval notice.
Thank you !I will go back monday.
If I need my aos approval I will be dammed just because I have to wait 16months for my interview (Washington dc).
And it really sucks not being able to drive.
Thank you once again

Yes, so the text on the website you screenshotted doesn't make sense.
I-797 is an approval notice, not a receipt notice.
Actually, the table just means that a C9 EAD is approved based on a pending AOS.
What should I do in this case?

Receipt notice is the NOA1, not approval letter.
But Noa1 is not I-797C?

yes in Virginia the EAD works check the site for proving you hold residence there as i believe you will have to take (like in most states) 2 documents showing proof of your address
- If you are age 18 or older and you have never held a license issued by any state, U.S. territory or foreign country, you must hold a learner's permit for a minimum of 60 days or show completion of a state approved driver training course while holding the permit.
On my ead is with C9 so that means I need the approval letter for I-485

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I had my appointment at dmv for my driving exam but I left from there so sad.i couldn't take the test because I didnt had the green card.
I thought that if I have just ead it will be fine, but guess I was wrong.
I'm still waiting for my interview to be scheduled.
Now my question is:you could obtain your dl without having the permanent residence? I want to go to work but how can I go when I cant apply for dl.Its so depressing.
Thanks in advance

What kind of update did you receive? I had my biometrics taken on Aug 28th, and since then my status has been stuck "Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken". I see that the case status already turned "case is ready to be scheduled for interview" for those whose biometrics were after mine.
"My case was received "
And i had my bio appointment and still nothing updated on website.

I had my biometrics taken on 12th August and it took 3 weeks to receive an update. These things just feel like they take forever!
It does. And just imagine if you weren't in town ,you could miss the bio appointment. That would suck

I understand like this is the time to get the interview... and 29 months will be for other cases. Marrying a USC should take 8.5 I guess.
I hope so.but with COVID-19 probably it will take more.

I'm in the same situation its been 8months since I send my papers for renewal. My combo card expired in Sept.
I called uscis today and they send a expedited request it will take up to 10 business days till I will receive an answer or requests for documents.
I'm frustrated because the 120days extension will end in mid feb and that means I can lose my job.
