OH I guess I do have a pet peeve then!
When we were in Alexandria there was kind of like an indoor flea market type place about two minutes away from our flat. I don't know how many times I wanted to go in there and he said no. Finally it was the day before I was leaving and I still hadn't bought anything for me or the girls so I said "we're going in there!!!". I found a shirt that I really really liked and he tried to bargain it down with the guy selling it and then told me we're leaving.
We got outside and he called his sister and she told him to go to this huge flea market type place outdoors. I'm like...the one I want is in there!!! He wouldn't hear of it so we had to go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllll the way to this other place where I think we saved all of 2 egyptian pounds.
I told him he'd better get used to paying sticker price for clothes here 'cause it's not like he can bargain for a shirt in Target. His response, "I will handle this thing when I am there, inshallah"
that is cute

Hello and everyone that knows me knows that my mom was fighting the cancer battle and today God took her home to be with Him. I am very pleased that she is no longer suffering and that she is at peace now. It is sad that she is gone but I very light hearted that she is with her maker.
I was very glad that my husband was with me and was able to hold me when I got the news. He didn't like the ideal that I was going to work but I explained that it was ok since I know that she is in a much better place and I am able to accept the fact that she was called home.
I will not work my counseling job tonight so that I can be with my children and family.
Next Saturday we are going to do a celebration of her life!
I am sorry about your loss.

After that whole experience (the guns/ss cards) I would be REALLY scared to marry someone from MENA again! Did it take you a long time to be able to trust again and go through the process to bring someone over?
The whole pretending to be Greek all the time was the funniest part . I lived in Greece in 1985 so that was kind of really funny for me.....He told me he was from Ramallah.. I actually felt sorry for him because I thought at the time he must feel really bad about himself to lie like that. He even had like stickers with greek flags and had a whole story. He never used it with me but there are still girls that think they were dating a greek guy. I talked to one and she told me he said he was an orphan from Greece. Well to come to think of it, I know a moroccan guy who tells girls that he is a professional Italian soccer player. Oh well...
you are scaring me
.where do you meet these guys?

One problem you may encounter at most hotels is that they will ask you for your marriage certificate to share the room. We had to pay for two rooms in Marrakesh and we slept separately because the inspectors may come in the middle of the night.... This "anti prostitution law" is mostly enforced when one in the couple is moroccan. If both are foreigners, they may be less strict. Anybody had the same experience?
that applies only to moroccans (morccan ID or passport) otherways they should be alright since niether one of them will carry moroccan identifications.
best of luck
have a nice trip

a Cr-1 is a multiple entry visa. Many canucks head to the nearest POE, activate it to get the paper work rolling and turn around and head back to Canada. As long as u have a USA mailing addy, u should be fine. Of course one can't stay in Canada for too long.
No and yes. The CR1 is single entry visa. It dies once it is used. However, the I-551 stamp that goes in the passport upon entry acts like a temporary green card until the actual green card arrives in the mail sometime later. The stamp, like the green card to follow, signifies permanent resident status US permanent residents can re-enter the US as often as they like.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum.
I am so glad that I found this forum tonight and can relate
with many of you regarding the posts I have read so far.
I would like to tell my story but I'm not sure where to post it?
My husband and I were married in Pakistan 2-1/2 years ago.
He is Pakistani and I am a US Citizen.
I originally filed a I-130 petition for I-130 Immigrant Visa,
and after waiting for my husband's visa to be approved for
over 2-1/2 years now, my petition has been revoked and
returned to the US.
I know that many of you are in the same boat regarding
this matter.... IT'S COMPLETELY HEARTBREAKNG!!!!
So please tell me which forum I should be in?
I look forward to chatting with all of you.
Thanks for listening.
mangogirl30
welcome VJ.
I am sorry about what happen to your petition, I am confident you will be able to get him here and live happily after . hung in there and will turn to be all right.

OMG!!!!!! The power went out of our office park right as I walked in the door this morning and didn't come back on until lunch...once we rebooted servers and such...there it was...an email from the Rome Consulate!
Here is what it says:
Please be advised that we have received the I-601 application for your husband and we have requested today his file from the United States.
The current processing time for these applications is approximately 90 – 180 days from the date this office received the file from the United States.
If additional information is required from you or your qualifying relative, this office will send you a separate request by mail. We ask that you please refrain from contacting us for status checks while your application is pending. Your cooperation will help ensure that we maintain our processing time.
Regards, USCIS Rome
AGH!!!! My heart is about to explode!!! I'm a little bummed that the clock doesn't start until AFTER the file from the U.S. is received. And seeing as how I have no idea how long THAT is going to take, I guess we will just hope for the best. Even if it's moving slowly, at least it's moving.
My hubbie doesn't even know yet. He is traveling home from Malaysia and won't call me until Wednesday.
PLEASE, all of my VJ buddies, PLEASE keep your paws crossed and lift up those prayers that this all happens quickly and they look favorably upon our application and my husband gets to come home after 4 long years to be with me and his son!!!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited to get this news....just had to share!!!!
Charles and MBP....you're going to have to find me the happiest emoticon you can!!!!!!
congrats
now at least you know what is going on..hung in there you will be with your husband soon inchaALLAH

Moroccan FEstival in Houston today....mmmmm....couscous.....
I saw Hairspray yesterday. I am still unsure how I feel about it. It is a more white washed version of the original film for sure, but still quuite entertaining. I love musicals and movies with dancing. I have mixed feelings about John Travolta. anyone see it?
last week, a friend of mine and I saw haispray. both of us thought it was fun , we had a good time. . I haven t seen the original movie, but few people had told me that it is no where as good as the original version. I am planning on renting it the old movie and watching just to find out for my self.

I just sent them another email with the info that you suggested. Hopefully they will tell me it's there, just not logged in.
I've been hoping that maybe they would expedite his file based on the year it was started. For example, our file starts with 2005 and I have been hoping that maybe they will assign it a priority since it's much older than say ones coming from 2007. But, I'm sure that many of us would agree that whatever system it is that they use...doesn't make sense!
It's just been so hard. When we first learned I was pregnant, we kept hoping that he would make it home to see our son born. Then we had hoped he would be home by his first birthday. I guess now we can only hope he'll be home by the time our son is two. We are just sooooo tired of being apart.
I can t imagine what you are going thru. I have been apart from my husband for almost a year now and it sucks. I am sorry you and your child have to suffer for this long.
when you write to rome or casa next time, try to include the info about your kid and how he is 2 years old now and that he needs to have his dad in his life. try to get them to see what you and your son are going thru because of this visa issue ..
best of luck

All, I really appreciate your advice.
I have emailed Rome 2 times now and after a couple of days, they do respond, but each time they have told me that his file has not been received yet. But I will email them again today. Hopefully, it's there and stuck in a pile.
it won t hurt, just make sure you include the info I talked about. that will make it easy for them to locate your case, and of course you get a faster response.
good luck. just pray and try to relax, it will all turn out to be okay

I just can't believe it! Rome finally updated their list today and our case STILL isn't on there. It's been 6 weeks since the file was sent. I contacted Casa and was informed that it was sent by diplomatic pouch on June 14th. I asked if there was a way to trace the pouch to make sure that it hasn't been lost. They said once it leaves their office they have no information on it. Are you kidding me???? So....how the he-ll do you know if it's been lost. Their response was...sorry ma'am, we can't help you, you will have to contact the Rome office.
Are we lost in a frigg'in black hole? I swear this process is going to make me lose my mind. I don't even know how to break the news to Hicham. I guess we are going to have to wait another two weeks...AGAIN. By that time, it will have been 2 months since his file was sent. Oh...and just so you know, the wait time once they LOG IN the file, is 6 months!!!! By that time, we will be well past the 4 year mark.
The only help our Congress rep has been is to actually get the file out of the local CIS office (that took 9 months) and sent on to NVC. Once it left the country, we were told they could no longer help us.
I'm all out of ideas and letter writing at this point. It's killing Hicham to hear his little boy talking on Skype. I have so been hoping that he would get home before our son begins to know that his daddy isn't here, know what I mean?
I'm just sick over this. Sick and very, very sad!
:crying:
:crying:
alusa,
email them. be polite and make sure you provide the following

please help, case########
this worked for me with the naple's embassay(italy), I am confident they will respond to you. just give them couple of days.
as I said this had worked for me.
let me know if you need thier email address.
best of luck

Difficult if not impossible to do because the retirement fund regulations are so different between countries.
USA generally does not authorize transfers from Europe.
We are occasionally asked about the possibility of transferring pension benefits from UK "exempt approved" contracts to US Schemes. (Exempt approved covers all of the contracts that we normally come across e.g. Stakeholder, PPP, RAP, EPP, SSAS and Occupational Schemes).
After some research, we eventually spoke to the Inland Revenue who clarified the situation for us.
The bottom line is that such a transfer will never gain approval under the current rules.
The problem is not the UK Inland Revenue but the US IRS.
The equivalent to UK 'exempt approved' schemes are 'qualified' retirement plans in the US.
All such plans are only allowed to accept "rollovers" (the American term for a transfer) from another "qualified" plan.
Obviously, UK "exempt approved" Schemes do not seek "qualifying" status (for tax purposes) in the US and therefore, the IRS will not sanction any transfers from UK Schemes.
There are unapproved schemes in the US rather like UK FURBS (Funded Unapproved Retirement Benefits Schemes) but, like the UK, our Inland Revenue will not allow a transfer to such a scheme.
However, you may have substantial capital invested in UK Pension Plans. It is therefore important that these plans are managed efectively and professionally until retirement age is reached.
At retirement you will have all the usual choices associated with UK pension plans. However, there is an additional risk! This extra risk revolves around your pensions being denominated in sterling, paying income in sterling and probably being biased towards sterling assets whilst your costs of living are being paid for in US dollars.
It is therefore important to continue monitoring your pension and managing it effectively after retirement.

thank you for the infos
I was wondering, if it would be the same if the transfer is from italy not the uk.
I am thinking it may be even harder considering how bureauctratic italy is

Has anyone taken formal ESL classes and if so was it worth the $$? I"m looking into the free ones offered but I have to wonder if they are as effective as the ones most colleges offer.
the good thing about the community college classes is that you have to do a placement test before attending any classes.
this is a good thing if you have taking any english classes before, it make sure you are being challenged enough. you have a classmates that are in the same level and the learnning experience gows smootly. i have taking esl classes in a community college before and in my case it was worth every penny.
best of luck

is this realy possible with money saved up thru the government plans?
if yes do you know how it can be done from europe to the usa?
thank you so much

"I wanted to end the relationship"
So, did they do it really badly or something so the person would wanna leave them? Cause I mean, having sex with someone doesn't usually mean hey, lets break up.
In "My Super Ex-Girlfriend", Luke Wilson's friend offers some excellent advice -
"if you're going to break up with a girl, have sex with her first - because you know it's going to be problematic afterwards"
Lol, well I did like that movie but I forgot that quote
I guess if the sex was good you'd wanna get it in one last time before breaking it off!
Although, if someone did that to me..well, lets just say he wouldn't be having sex for awhile

Seeing as Casa sent his file on June 14th and they STILL don't have it....GRRRRRR... really makes me mad.Just thought I would let you all know that we are SSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLL waiting for Rome to "log in" Hicham's file! AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
