  1. I'm trying to get up to date with all the Canadian taxes. I called CRA to find out what they needed, and they said that I must file a return for 2006, even if I had no income. 2007 will become my "exit" return, as that is the year that I filed for US Permanent Residency.

My question is this: on the 2006 T-1 Identification box, do I use my CURRENT (married) name and current US address, or do I use my PREVIOUS name and former Canadian address?

    Thank you.

You would use your name on 12/31/06. Use your current address.

Thank you. I have one more question..... the last one, I think! I'm filing Section 217 for 2008 to get back some of the 25% withheld when I cashed out my RRSPs in 2008. I've got the non-resident T1 filled out already. Obviously, I use my current married name and US address. Where it says "marital status", I put "married". But then what do I put under the spouse information, since my husband is the US citizen, never lived or worked in Canada, does not have a SIN# or any other ties to Canada (except me, of course!) Do I just leave that box blank? If it makes a difference, I have no income from anywhere in 2008, except for the RRSP cashout.

    Thanks again!

Typing in US Resident would be appropriate

I married my husband in August and of course he is still in Canada, has never been to the U.S. (and he is an Iranian citizen living in Canada.) I am trying to file Married Separately, but it seems I need a SSN for him, which of course he doesn't have. What do I do?

BTW he is a student and not currently working.

NV, I found out that I have to file as single, since he does not have a SSN.

You may not file as single.. period. Your best tax consideration would likely be to opt to have your husband treated as a tax resident for the entire tax year, file as married filing joint and exclude his income using Form 2555. Also do your taxes as married filing separate as well. You will have to file for an ITIN for your husband.

H&R Block told me to file single. Now I'm thoroughly confused. I already submitted my taxes.

I did the same thing back in 2006..filed as single ..my husband didn t have ssn ...I am going to get money back if I amend it..but I am not sure if I should do that now?;(

You can file an amendment for 2006... Go ahead and do it and get they money you deserve.

you don't think they are going to give me hard time for that?!

    thank you so much.

  3. So I'm lovingly trying to help my SO fill out his G325A form and I ask him what his parents birthdays are...he tells me he doesn't know exactly. So being Me...and I guess you have to know me...I'm like "what do you mean you don't know?" And he tells me that essentially back then they didn't keep track (or keep track well I guess) He sends me a copy of their passports and lo and behold there is just the year they were born...no month no day. Just the year. What do I do???? Have any of you experienced something like this? His parents were born in the early 40's is this something that was done all over Morocco or just in the town where they were born? Ugh...I'm at a loss as to how to go about this one. :help: Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

    tasha

lessen if they don t know birth day you just write 01/01/19XX

that is what I did with my husband ..it was okay and we got approved.

any question you can PM me

  4. I agree if it is mutal that is fine, and if one can't wear it due to work that is fine too. I think it is something between the 2 people in the marriage and if they agree on what they are doing as far as rings then that is a good thing. I mean disrespectful if you wear it out sometimes and not others like you are trolling for the opposite sex to see if you are still able to attract the opposite sex that is when it is disrespectful IMO. To each there own for sure, I have taken mine off a few times due to heat and my hubby is fine with that, he never takes his off even though I think he shouldn't wear it for safety reasons at work but he will not take it off, so be it.

Strangely enough though, my husband said that he suddenly was interesting to women once he started wearing his ring. When he lost it, the women also lost interest and then I didn't care anymore if he got another or not. Nasty how many homewreckers in training there are out there.

this is right the other way arround too. from experience

  5. I know. I keep checking the Chicago Suntimes and the Chicago Tribune. I don't think Darien has its own papers. They are very nice at the funeral home every time I call with questions.

We are sending the Quiet Tribute standing spray by FTD if you would like to see the arrangement.

As of this morning we have $160 over the flowers to give to Hatem. I thought long and hard about this decision. What would Dawn have wanted. And she would have wanted us to help him. I am sure of it.

I had thought maybe the driver of the other car was ill or just not paying attention. No. He was drunk. At 11am, he was drunk. This makes me sick. Nothing will bring back my friend. If he gets prison time, doesn't matter. If he walks, no fair. Either way Dawn is gone.

  6. how did find classes to teach english as a second language :bonk: ?

You can ask/call your local school district, ask at the public library, or look for private classes. My husband studies at Berlitz which is very good, just a bit expensive.

thank you very much for the info ..

berlitz I may have to look into that

I know I'm biased because I work there...but my husband studies there as well and it's a good school. They focus more on conversation, which most immigrants need to begin with.

Sometimes local universities offer programs too. If you could find a newspaper for Hispanics or any othere immigrant you're sure to find something in there.

I checked thier web site yesterday , and it said something about an English summer promotion. do you know anything about that?

Our local community colleges also offer EFL classes and for a nominal fee, the community center offers one every season (which I think is about every 12 weeks).

    Where are you located?

we have just moved to the orlando florida area ...

  8. As a green card holder how long can you stay outside the usa without issues reentering?

In what case could have problems? and please do you have or know of somone's experience?

Have you heard of anyone loosing status in this stuation?

    Thank you all :star:

If you no longer maintain residence in the US, and are perceived as moving outside of the country, you can loose it pretty much right away.

But otherwise, you will need a re-entry permit after 1 year, and you will loose status after 2 years.

I am afraid that even if you maintain a residense here ..they can stil say you abondand your status?what do you think?

  10. Now imagine the reaction if someone gleefully chimed in with "The Light Unto Nations is at it again..." or "God's chosen people are at it again" every time an article is posted about the IDF shooting a child in the head, or forcing a woman in labor to give birth in the dirt instead of allowing her to a hospital, or bombing a refugee camp.... or on and on and on....

For all their flaws, you're not going to see anyone jailed in Israel for saying a bad thing about Moses.

As for shooting people in the head and other atrocities, your Muslim brothers and sisters are still

    world leaders.

You know what, Mawilson. Most people understand that it's repulsive and ridiculous to try to use the actions of one person -- or a group of people, or even a government -- as an excuse to demonize an entire religion or an entire people. Actually, the only folks who don't understand this are bigots.

Anyway, I would certainly be interested in seeing your supporting evidence for your claim about Muslims being the "world leaders" in "shooting people in the head and other atrocities." Bring it on.

As for your glorious Israeli legal system -- well, it's distinguished itself as the only one in the world to have effectively legalized torture. As for your beloved IDF -- well, Israeli soldiers who violate the IDF's own code of ethnics are almost never punished by Israeli military courts for their actions. "Your Zionist brothers and sisters" (to paraphrase you) routinely conduct extrajudicial assassinations, demolish the homes and farms of innocent Palestinian civilians, generally use excessive force against civilians, and all sorts of actions that have been repeatedly condemned by international law and human rights organizations. I am more than ready to debate you on that subject.

But there is no legitimate reason to follow an item about IDF crimes with some stupid bigoted remark about "the Jewish people" or "the Jewish religion" being to blame.

You have completely missed the point -- or perhaps you are ignoring it on purpose. So I will spell it out again -- my post was in response to yet another of Lucky Strike's countless attempts to demonize Islam.

Anyone can cherry-pick articles about bizarre or disturbing ####### involving any ethnicity on Earth. But to try to use them to smear an entire religion (or an entire ethnic group associated with that religion) -- this is simply bigotry.

You know, some mohels engage in the disgusting practice of metzitza b'peh. Does this mean the Jewish people should be characterized as the "world leaders in religiously sanctioned child molesting" ?

    WELL SAID THANK YOU

  11. I just came back from tire discounters, they want 199 dollars to change the ceramic pads the rotors and clean the back discs. anyway I live like 3mn away from the place and I figured it is a good deal so told them to chage them. it is sure way less than 600..the problem is how do i know they did what they said they would

they should have offered to give you the old parts, which is one way to tell. another is by driving it and seeing if the problem still exists. lastly, eyeball the new pads - easy to do with most vehicle rims.

they haven t offered yet since they are still working on the car. I learned my lesson. I willl make sure they show me if I don t notice the changes. I know they were a little rusted..so I assume they shouldn t be anymore..

I am thinking about taking some kind of automobille class just so I won t be taking advantage of

assuming the back brakes are drum, it's not easy to show that - they have to take off the wheel and drum to do that. the front pads are easy to spot. also inquire about a warranty if you have not already. most places warranty the work for at least 90 days.

that is good you told me about the warranty... thank you

yes the back has drums heheh I called them discs

  14. Here we gooo

1_Why you wanted to marry your spouse , why you wanted to get engaged to your fiance.

2_How you do you feel now about thsi Decision?

i ill talk about my experience when you ask me lool

i know its hard to answer the second Question so do your best guys

1- the first time we met and looked onto each others eyes..it was like woooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww

everyone knew we were kind of made for each other except me I was married then..he told his family that he would have asked me to marry him if I wasn t married, and he did right after my divorce.

2- the best thing that had ever happen to me. I am in LOVE.

  15. issues there.I asked them if it would be okay to still use them for a long distance and they told me that as soon as i hear a squeky noise i have to get them changed. i am just furious ;) of the price :(

The squeeky noise they are describing is the wear indicator on the pad. It is a piece of metal that rubs agains the rotor after the pad is worn down, telling you that you have about 3 to 5,000 miles left to get the pads replaced. I bend it back with a screwdriver when I hear the noise, and then remember to replace the pads and rotors (German cars don't usually let you machine rotors, new ones every time..) in about 2000 miles.

So if she's only just heard the squealing noise and hasn't ignored it for too long (as I did  ), should she be okay with just a set of pads? I know I went metal-to-metal for a while and the rotor damage was my own fault, but isn't the purpose of the noise to prevent the need for new rotors every time if you heed the warning? Or does that depend on the car?

i haven t heard any noises yet...he told me that my brake are wore out and that there is only 10 to 15% left

and so they need to be replaced.

when I asked what is the distance I can still use the car without problems he said about a 1000 miles.keep in consederations I haven t heard my brakes squealing noises yet or seen the brake problem light yet.

i posted earlier that i need a brakee pads but actualy i need the rotors too. i thought the whole thing is the same :innocent: . i called pepboys and asked about the cost of replacing the pads and the rotors and was told 243 dollars  .now I am getting somewhere..I stilll need to have them inspect it first..who know what they will come up with

  16. wow, i never heard a brake job be that much, unless they are replacing the master cyclinder and the whole system

agreed - when i had the rotors replaced on my car along with brake pads it was about 400.

don t you think they are charging me at least 50 % more than what you paid . is that just because i am a woman ?

  17. A coworker of mine changed my rear brakes in less than an hour while I watched (I had destroyed one rotor and we replaced both) for the cost of lunch plus the parts. I don't think it was that complicated, but even though I'll tinker with some things on my car, I'm not ready to mess with anything that makes the car stop.

this exactly what i have to fix this asp. especialy because I am going to florida and realy don t want to have issues there.I asked them if it would be okay to still use them for a long distance and they told me that as soon as i hear a squeky noise i have to get them changed. i am just furious ;) of the price :(

  18. I went for an oil change this mornning, and was surprised with an estimate of over 600 dollars to change my brackes.don t get me wrong I had my car for the past 6 years and never had them changed, but over 600 dollars for that is tooooooooo much..

so far i have no problems with my brakes so and of course i told them let me think about it and come back. sure no way jose!!!!!

i went to work and talked one of my guys coworkers who checked my car and said yes you need them changed but it shouldn t cost that much...you know i start researching this brake deal online and come to find out the brakes on my estimate are 73.45 when i can buy them for 35.53 at pepboys!!!!! i only need 2 of those. i haven t found the price on disc brake rotor, but i am sure they wont be 52.95 for sure. I found a guide online as to how to change the brakes and sure doesn t look that hard.

i plan on getting more estimates from other locations, I am just mad as i feel these people can just double or triple the price and not even feel bad about it?!!

  19. My mum came visiting from england and even though isnt staying with us, she's insecure about her presence her..even claiming my mother has come to spoil the marriage and still the attention i'm supposed to be giving her.

My mum had an emergency and has had to be hospitalized whilst visiting... I've asked if my mum can move in with us upon her discharge so i can cater for her till she's well but she's refused..

So i may have to rent somewhere else to keep my mum and then have to care for her there as she had a mini stroke.

Its a difficult time but she's too selfish to see past herslf now and is requesting a divorce cos i'm always at the hospital..

I think i'm done... whatever situation happens..i dont know... Need advice..i'm thinkin its time to actually get separated..

lessen to me and lessen good....\you have one mum you can never have another.from what you are saying you married

    a horrible person.

run and run fast while you can.

I can t believe it, where does she want your mom to stay when she is sick :o ??? if she doesnt show her love to you thru caring for your mom, you are better of with someone else..

    best of luck
