    I would always send updated tax transcript. It trumps all other financial documents. This was the reason why a close relative got AP until they provided the most updated tax script.

    I would have still filed taxes with no income. the way I see it as an immigration officer I would want updated tax returns. If spouse income is below threshold I would request joint sponsor to fulfill that requirement. If there is no tax return (regardless of reason) then we are still stuck at first step. anyone else can chime in as well but I think for immigration purposes, I would have filed all taxes regardless of no income.
