  1. So I finally went to my AoS interview at Newark today. I had a very early interview. Pretty much as soon as it opened. I would have to say that it couldn't have gone smoother. The security measure wasn't a pain at all.

    1. I didn't have to take off my shoes as my wife and I wore sneakers to the interview.

    2. I took off my watch and emptied my pocket into the tote bag of documents.

    3. The guard directed us to the right floor.

    4. Went to the registration window and checked in for the interview.

    5. Waited for the interview... and waited... and 1 hour later we were called.

    6. Entered the interview. The interviewing officers(IO from now on) was friendly but professional. He went straight for the questions. Oddly my wife got asked most of the questions when she is the USC and I'm the applicant.

    7. He then asked us if we had any other documents. We did I handed over photos of which he kept some, tax bills, joint account statements, shared medical insurance policies, and shared house and car insurance policies.

    8. At the end of the interview he gave us a form indicating he still had some reviewing to do and to expect a decisions within 120 days. I asked, "Exactly how long?"

"Up to 120 days... but I will usually have a determination by the end of the day.", said the IO.

    9. We got up shook hands with and thanks the IO and left.

    10. We got the nearby parking lot, paid the $20 in parking for the time and left for IHOP for a nice breakfast.

All in all it was a good experience with little to complain about. Getting there was a little tough but we had a car and parking wasn't really that bad all things considered.
So with that all done all I can do now is wait.

  2. Well, I got a reply from my senator's rep.

Good news is that my interview is now scheduled. No news on EAD. Yeah, at this rate I'll have my green card in hand before the EAD 😅

Well there has been some movement lately. As of this morning I-485 went from  Received Evidence from my RFIE to Interview ready to be scheduled.

Being in NJ and with Newark FO being my FO, this could be a very very long wait. At least it's one step closer.

Still no word on my EAD nor AP yet.

As I typed that out my I485 went to "Interview Was Scheduled"

No word on EAD nor AP still

Hi, I am sorry. I feel you. It has been 214 days for me.  😞

Can I ask you exactly what you said to your senator?

I contacted my senator too couple days ago and I filled out a form explaining my problem. And I got a response asking me if I want expedite, but in fact I don't have ground for the expedition (no job offer, no emergency situation etc.). I am trying to understand if representatives can help only with expedition.

Well, I don't know if they will take up my case or if my reasons to expedite were compelling enough. My reasons were that I needed my EAD expedited on grounds of severe financial loss. Simply stated if I don't start working within the next 4 weeks, my wife and I will not be able to meet our financial obligations ie. we are at risk of bankruptcy. We would hit that point in about six weeks and so I worked out my deadlines from there. It takes at least two weeks to get paid in a job so that means I need to be working within 4 weeks of today. Who knows what's going to happen. Of course I'll do everything I can to stay afloat and I might have to lean on family although I'm loath to do that. But even we last beyond 6 weeks from today, it would pretty much ruin us financially for years.

  5. So it's been 203 days since my PD and about 37 days since they got my RFIE. I just here to vent because I just lost out on a job offer due to this processing too way longer than first anticipated back in December 2018. 😢

So I contacted USCIS and got in touch with a tier 1. They basically told me there's nothing they can do until it hits the 60 day mark for the RFIE.

Also, yesterday before my offer got rescinded, I got in touch with my senator's office. I filled in all the forms they requested and sent them back. Hopefully they can help push it along a bit although they make no promises obviously. I do hope I get an approval soon as we're pretty much at the end of our savings. Two more month of this and we'll be at risk of not being able to pay our mortgage and bills. 😫 Never in my worst nightmares did I expect to be out of work for 8+ months.

  6. So, I filed in December and I got a RFIE about 3 weeks ago now. Claimed I was missing a birth certificate, wife's tax returns and payslips. I don't know how they could be missing those as I definitely had all that in the package. Anyway, I responded and basically sent out the missing evidence within the day and it was overnighted back to USCIS by the following day. Now the question is, I'm going to assume they were working on my case when they made a RFIE, so how long does it normally take for them to make a determination on the evidence now they have it in their hands? I'm seriously considering trying to expedite this or pushing this through my local congressman as we're start to get hit very hard financially as I've been out of work for almost 8 months now and have basically run through my savings. ☹️

Long time lurker and first time poster. After 154 since PD (12/21/18) I finally have an update. Not the one I was hoping for as I got a RFIE but I'm happy that it is at least being looking at.

Just an update. Seems they were missing birth certificate for me, and missing proof of income for my USC spouse. I'm shaking my head because I know those were sent in with the packet. I don't know how they could be missing those.

Of course with me being super organized, I already had all those documents scanned and in printed in duplicate at the time of putting together my packet with the exception of 2018 tax returns because I submitted it like months ago now. Time taken for me to respond could not be quicker. I got the letter in the morning, I spent the next 30 minutes reading and rereading to make sure I understood what I had to provide, I spent 30 minutes drafting a letter partially for me to know what I'm gathering and to let USCIS know what I've got and why, I gathered up the documents within 30 minutes after that, I then cross checked the pile of documents to the letter, I signed the letter, clipped the packet together and shoved it into a USPS priority express envelope. It was sent 3:30pm that very same day. According to tracking it arrived the next day as expected. :D

Now the waiting begins again. It's just waiting for USCIS... sigh...
