Interview was scheduled for 4/30. Just received a letter today saying it has been cancelled. Will receive another letter for the interview date and time. Case status online says ready to be scheduled for an interview.

We’re panicking as we’ll be moving to another state soon and a later interview date would mess up our plans. I’ll give USCIS a call tomorrow and try to find out what’s going on.

So I called my local USCIS office the day after we received the cancellation notice. The nice lady said my interview could’ve been cancelled due to overbooking. I asked if they could expedite my interview scheduling and she submitted the request. Just received another notice yesterday for a new interview date for 5/25, about 3.5 weeks later than my original one. Better than nothing and right before my original moving date.

My wife received her EAD on 11/4. Been waiting *patiently* for the SSN card but nothing. So I finally called local SSA office today and the agent said there's nothing pending. He told me to contact USCIS directly. I did, and I could not get to a live agent whatsoever. So I called local SSA office again and this time the agent got my wife's information and would pass it on to a supervisor. Supervisor will call my wife in about 7 days to set up an appointment with her so that she can apply for SSN in person.

So I guess USCIS did send the application over to SSA. My wife just received her SS card yesterday!

  5. So my fiancé arrived with no problem! When she was checking in at HKG, airlines counter checked her visa and said it’s ok. When she got to the US customs upon arrival, the officer was very nice and polite but looked like he was trying to minimize the time talking to her. He even forgot to get her entry packet, which he ended up taking after my fiancé asked him. Lol

Anyway, she’s finally here and I’m grateful.

There are several threats here asking this question and I think that all ended with the conclusion that a K1 isn't essential travel. Also a fiance is not a immediate family member so you should better talk to the airline again

Thank you. However my fiancé had the interview when the outbreak first started, she heard couple people asking the consulate if they’d be able to enter the States. Consulate stated “if we issue the visa to you, you’ll be able to enter.”

  7. My fiancé is flying to LAX from Hong Kong this coming Tuesday, 4/14. She got an email from the airline about required documents for entry, and K-1 visa wasn’t mentioned at all. Is K-1 visa considered essential travel? Will she be able to enter? Thank you in advance.

There are at least 14 national chain type banks that allow a foreigner to open a bank account with no SSN or GC/visa. Some require ITINS, some dont. Google open bank account no SSN and browse through some of the blog type articles on it. For banks that offer this you will most likely not be able to open the account online and will need to go to a branch. I would suggest calling the branch and speaking with a manager type person before making a trip there to avoid unnecessary travel.

Thanks a lot for the advice. We'll definitely look into that once she gets here. I wasn't feeling well so she postponed her flight to 2 weeks later.

I'm exactly on the same boat as you here in New York. It seems like every country is closed. I've been really frustrated not to be able to get not only the marriage license but also SSN, bank account, driver license, work permit, etc. Please keep me updated if you find a way you figured out some open counties or any other ways. Apparently, there's a website that offers the marriage license online but you never know whether it will be a scam or not after letting them know all your personal information. Fingers crossed.

Same here. Luckily my fiancé’s K1 visa expires in July and she’ll be here next week so we have plenty of time to sit around and wait...*fingers crossed* But It really sucks that she won’t be able to drive, work or open a bank account. If *knock on wood* she still hasn’t opened a bank account in two months, her cashier’s check from Hong Kong will expire and we gotta figure out another way to bring those money over here.

  10. Our estimate is June 23-26 which has obviously passed. So anxious that I keep checking both the old and new sites, and check the mails every evening. My fiancée is worried. I keep telling her what you guys have been saying - it’s been processing faster than a few months ago so just hang tight. It’ll be our turn soon!

And yes, thank you everyone for all the information and support!
