Hi There, the interview went well with minimal questions since my brother in law sponsor my wife so she was questioned i.e. when was the last she saw her brother??? what he do??? his phone number??? is he married??? i have 2 older kids 18 (girl) and 19 (boy) there were asked if they were married and my son (19) was asked to sign a mandatory "Selective Services affidavit" without it they won't issue the visa. they kept the passport and said they will mail the visa in 2 weeks.
As far as i am concern, i had an issue due to an overstay back in 1990's and CO said that i need a I-160 waiver to process my visa. Currently i do have a waiver and B1/B2 visa to visit USA but now i need a different one. The CO was very helpful for my situation. I will be posting my question regarding I-160 as i don't know how proceed with it. Let me know if you need more info.  Thanks.

    Morning,

I chose direct home delivery, which in hindsight, I wish I hadn't.  It locks me home until the visa get's delivered.  I would not suggest that.  I had miscalculated on the date, forgetting that today was a holiday, thus no mail service.  I have a truck to pick up tomorrow and pack, with the plans of being on the road Wednesday morning.

From what I recall, you can choose a number of very local MAIN post office branches.  I am sure you can choose pick up of the visa wherever you want. This I would recommend since you can be notified by email or text to pick it up at your leisure.

Thank you so much for keeping us posted on every step. I wish picking up is an option. Passport is safer that way. I’ve read some passports lost by Canada post.

Got notification yesterday morning that my visa is with Canada Post.  Not my first choice, but there was no option to pick up in Montreal.  Too bad really, since I would have stayed another day.

So hopefully it comes today, if not, it will be Tuesday since Monday is a holiday here.  Cutting our time razor thin since we wanted to be on the road by Wednesday!

The tracking number that they gave me is still not showing up in CP's system, so I don't expect it today.

    Hi there,

There was no option to pick up the visa, at least from my interview.  I had already registered for courier delivery of visa back to my residence in Toronto.

The status of my Visa has been changed to "Issued", I am assume that is almost ready to print and ship.

    I’m glad we can help.

The interview date came through email.  That email tells you to book your medical.

Its important to go to the Montreal consulate website, which is linked through travel.org. There you can download the specific Montreal checklist and links to videos.

You also must register your interview with Consulate after you get the date. That takes about 3 days after NVC notifies you. There you assure your time and date is slotted and you get a chance to specify where and how you want to get the visa.  You can have it couriered or you can pick up at local post office.

The Montreal website has a ton of information.

Forgot to say, when our lawyer asked for my police certificate. I asked him "which one?" (because I know theres different kinds). He told us, "doesnt matter get any"....and when I went to my police dept to get my police certificate they asked me which one I needed and I explain "doesnt matter which one, any" and I explained it was for a cr-1 visa to the USA and thats what my lawyer told me to get any certificate. The police dept was like "uh ya no, we need to know which" and were hesistant to give me my police cert. I asked our lawyer again which certificate I needed and he was like "I told you any" and I explained "well no, my police dept here in Canada needs to actually KNOW which one, one with fingerprints, without fingerprints etc..."

    ahh was frustrating...

Same here lol! Always saying I wish I paid myself instead of paying the lawyer er... her assistant. She seem annoyed everytime we call and ask questions. I did all research because they want us to wait for idk what. All they gave us is...”we will call NVC and get back to you” 🙄
Anyway, since I didnt trust them which is silly coz we hired them... I did my own research on things specially the HK police certificate (who wont give you the result. They send it straight to the embassy where you will he interviewed. Took 6weeks before I got the receipt. We applied online CEAC and what I did is exchange e-mails with HK police, pdf the e-mails and it is what we uploaded on the HK police cert in our CEAC account). Aside from doing my own research, I had to redo my Ds-260 and submitted it myself because I let her type all our infos for the DS-260 so she has some JOB to do but, made a loooot of mistakes! Idk where she got all those dates?!
Also, about HK police cert our attorny told us to request and take the certificate so we can upload a copy! She kept insisting! Like... we hired you for this to guide us and make it easier at least for us, to do the research instead of us! They don’t know that HK WILL NEVER send the result to the applicant! They did not even bother to research about it! 🙄

Oh and another thing! When I asked what NVC letter should I send to HK police because it is required to give them a copy of letter from NVC that acquiring an HK police is stated with the interviewing embassy and case number and my name on it.  She told me that NVC wont mail me a hard copy of my case and invoice # coz they don’t do that anymore. Wrong! They did! This simple things they don’t know! I wonder if they’re real immigration lawyers. 🙄
On the last part... when all documents were completed, we sent them all the scanned civil documents for them to upload coz i was doing all the job for them. Told them to upload everything and we will go over it after and then they can submit. Well... as expected, they uploaded it as is. They did NOT even rotate the page!   Nor straighten the passport photo! So there! We paid them for doing nothing! 🌝🌚

    Nova77,

As posted earlier, I had lived in the US for about 15 years with SS contributions in excess of the required 40 quarters before abandoning my first green card. I was really firm in standing my ground w.r.t applicability of exemption in my situation, even though not everyone working on my case was familiar. Eventually, my I-864W was accepted. Even after approval, this came up during my in-person interview. The officer claimed that my I-864 was missing! I insisted on speaking to the Consular General if no one was aware of the applicability of the rule. Fortunately, my officer took my case file to discuss with the consular general and returned to confirm that I was right. A few days later we returned to the US.

I agree with Dritan's suggestion. If you do not have clear 40 quarters of credit and your Social security statement does not explicitly state "benefits eligible", I too would recommend to not pursue that route. This will cause serious delay in addition to the RFE, if your situation is not the same.

    Good Luck!
