The reason they kept her passport in the first place was because they were about to approve the K-1 Visa as soon as we provided two more simple documents. But then our engagement ended.
I had to do the right thing and inform the US Embassy. The K-1 Visa is only for people who are engaged. I wanted to preserve the integrity of the US Visa system by telling 100% the truth all the time. And that's what we did.

It's her passport, she is the one who needs to contact the embassy and just ask for it.
They won't deny to give the passport back no matter what the visa status is, a passport is a personal document that they can't hold hostage just because.
