  1. It's been a long time since I visited the thread....My hubby's extension letter is set to expire this month. So fed up with this process. Will probably call them next week if we can make an info pass for the passport stamp. Our USCIS office is a few hours away and is a huge hassle to get to. All I want for Xmas is for them to approve and send the 10-yr card!!! 😭 sigh

10/29/2020 - Tracking number confirmed delivery

Still no text message, and money order has not been cashed. :(

My wife's Visa expires on the 18th of December.

My husband too!! I'm nervous because the delivery from USPS tracking just says "Phoenix, Arizona"...I don't know if it actually got to the lockbox? I had the correct address though. If we don't hear something after Thanksgiving, does anyone recommend that we should re-send the packet?

  3. Hello!

*Please see attached images and let me know if you think I should delete them or not?*

I have a bit of an update but I can't even find a topic about this on forums sigh. My husband went back to SS office bl and requested his SS card again which they still have not given us, they printed another letter stating his ssn number is valid. So, my husband went back to the DMV and they entered him in the system and these are the error messages that they have. My husband successfullly ajusted status in December 2018 and his green card, passport, and EAD card all have his correct name. My husband has a double first name and a double last name. When pulled in the system, the FDLIS Request pulls his name correctly, but the VLS response his second name is also shown as his middle which is completely stupid. 😡 so therefore his name isn't "matching up"...VLS also says he is EAD and waiting to adjust status but the number they are running is his green card!! We called USCIS and they said he's in their system and I just don't see how they have his name correct on his green card, is USCIS at fault or someone else? We're probably going to schedule an infopass but I was hoping if anyone had any clues, please let me know. We're beyond frustrated, how do we correct his name?? 😨 Thank you...

  4. Hello. My husband and I went to another DMV this morning, confident that our SAVE case was going to be helpful. They did the whole process over again, took his picture and everything. And then the very last step, they said his status was still not changed in the system and to call Immigration. So we left, called USCIS and spoke to a tier 2 officer and they told us he is all clear and updated in their system. So we are going to try to get through to SSA and see if we missed a step somewhere trying to update them in the loop that his status is now perm resident/GC. Fingers crossed that is all we need to do and it will fall into place.  Even though we showed our local SS office his green card, they must have just not updated it because they are super inefficient. My understanding is that DHS/SSA are connected and that the DMV gets info from running the SSA/DHS system or e-verify.

This may also be related to the recent shut down and that he may not have been updated in the system because we got his GC in December 2018 and the shut down started Dec. so the timing could have just been bad luck. We are just very fed up playing phone tag and each dept. blaming the other. I just wish there was a better way for USCIS to be in contact with SSA/DMV/etc because we really can't do anything through USCIS anymore bc they said it's DMV's problem and they told us an Infopass appt is not necessary.

I will hopefully have a good news update soon. :(  Thank you all for your replies, you have all been so helpful! Fingers crossed that our case works out soon and maybe this thread could be useful to someone else in the future.

Yes. I was honestly did not think the Reddit would get many replies at all since it's not really a popular subReddit. Being that reddit is a little more casual/quicker, I posted it there as well since I usually post to VJ. It may have been overkill, but it was a bit of a kneejerk reaction as this license situation piled on top of another bad one and I was flustered yesterday and my hubby was already attempting to make an infopass appt for next Monday and I was seeing what info we could get and if that was necessary atm. The combined info has been very helpful to me however! :)

They told us that he didn't have to because he had his driver's license from his country, but then again, they could have no idea what's going on which could be happening...but they were perfectly fine to give him his license except according to them, he is not updated to perm resident in whatever system they ran his greencard or number to check his immigration status (I am not sure if they are using e-verify which is down bc the shut down or some other system). They didn't seem concerned with the 4-hour course or they would have told us I hope.

  7. Hello everyone,

Sorry this thread updated while I have been at work, I'll try to summarize and answer for your posts. At least we don't feel quite so alone! :)

It looks like we did manage to kick something off yesterday though a phone call through USCIS because we checked the SAVE site on a whim and two cases were opened for the DMV as well as the SSA (in Maryland /Single Signon office, I can't tell if that is a national office)?  But no one even offered that to us, my husband just put in his A# and it popped up. We're going to call a different DMV tomorrow and the SS office to see if there is a loose end here.

    SS Card question:

We got the number and they said we were free to use it and we got a signed letter from the office to use as proof, but the card itself has not arrived and they won't be straight with us except it's on it's way. We have tried to work with them, but our SS office (only have one) is very very rude and on our last visit asked us why we keep coming when we keep telling them we have no card and don't really want to keep bothering them either! Our address is correct, they've seen his green card and other documents, so I am not sure what more they want from us. :( We took a ton of stuff to the DMV, GC, EAD, old I-94, SS letter, passport, you name it, but once she was on the computer, her database kicked back his status was not current and just asked was his previous status/visa was and to contact Homeland Security (who we did call and in turn, told us to call USCIS...)? I think it's a combination of something going on with the SS office that don't want to help and the DMV which doesn't know how to deal with immigrant and is trying to check through homeland security system which is not updated. I just wanted to exhaust options instead of the 3 Act play of going to our USCIS office and having them tell us something generic like "call your SS office". The phone tag is very frustrating because half the time they don't pick up and then it depends on who you get and if they are actually helpful!

Thank you for sharing your valuable experiences and advice with me everyone, I just hope to see a light at the end of the tunnel soon! We have seemed to his every roadblock through this process and I was hoping this one wouldn't give us much trouble (wishful thinking).

  8. Would getting a driver's license be affected by the shut down maybe? My husband tried to get his today and passed the test, but the DMV said his status was not updated to perm resident even though we have his 2 yr greencard since dec 2018 and that we need to talk to Homeland Security. I really don't want to deal with infopass because we live hours away from our USCIS office and it's a big hassle to get there. They were not helpful over the phone but we didn't get to talk to a tier 2 officer. We are in Florida why may use e-verify. Thank you!

His SAVE database could be wrong.  (If he has his green card he no longer needs his EAD.  He should shred it.)  It's pretty frequent and e-verify isn't running right now so if they tried to use that, they won't ever find him.

Ah, I'm not sure if SAVE is what they used, I just came across it while searching what we could do. The DMV woman kept saying Homeland security said his status is not updated to perm resident so I'm not sure where she was pulling that from exactly.

Yup, I'm from Canada and I never really appreciated our driving centers until I experienced a DMV.

Question, do you have advice on what should we tell them at the other DMV location though? That they couldn't update him in the system or just ask to get the license? if they use the same system, won't it say the same? They've said it was tied to his social that he passed the test. Thanks

Because the person who denied your husband's DL might just be an idiot who happens to work at that particular location. Go to a different location and try your luck with finding a non-idiot.

I told hubby USA DMV is considered a circle of hell and he didn't believe me! We'll try another office, it definitely can't hurt. thank you!

  12. Sorry to hijack with a long message, but we're having issues with the DMV today also. I made a separate post but if a mod wants to clean that up, please do.

My husband got his AoS approved and we got his conditional green card in the mail since December 11, 2018. We went to go get his driver's license today and he took and passed the tests but they denied him the license because they said he wasn't in the system!? He already has his EAD, his passport is fine, he has his green card, social security number (they won't send is the dang physical card which maybe this is a part of?) And the woman told is Homeland Security says his status is not updated. I was so pissed because they told us that we need to go back to USCIS which for us is 3 hrs away and we have to rent a car and its a big hassle. I don't understand what us going to an infopass is going to accomplish because it seems like something internal on THEIR end needs to be fixed. Is there someone else we can contact? I tried looking into the SAVE thing, but I don't quite understand it. we called USCIS but weren't able to speak to a tier 2 officer.l but said we could make an infopass appt. They won't even tell us what we need to bring to the infopass. we have a giant folder of documents, but I'm just so confused. We are in Florida. 😡🤬 Thank you!

    Did you call USCIS?

Yes, they just told us we could make an infopass and they don't look up that kind of info over the phone...I don't know if taking to a tier 2 officer would make any difference. But I just really really want to avoid having to make a pointless trip. We can't call our USCIS office directly either. But to me, if they gave us the green card, that seems like the deal is done! They can find them in the system, so I don't know what they want. Our aos interview was really smooth. :(
