  1. thanks for bringing this topic up...Im gonna have the same problem...I would like it if my hubs would be able to drive to his classes but I guess its gonna take time till he can take the test in English...He speaks Arabic not Russian...Thanks cause were heading to FL too..

Here's what they did: We arrived at DMV office and they took the translator in a room where they had her record all questions and answers in Russian. Then they had Victor take the test listening to the recording. That way there was no giving answers to the person taking the test. I suppose that if someone wanted to cheat on this then the translator would only have to incorporate the answer during the recording. LOL

Victor passed the test first try with the recording and then aced his road test.

Good luck to you and your husband.

p.s. Make sure you make an appointment to do this cause they really jump through some hoops to do all this. If you hit them up when they are busy it probably will be a huge issue.

  2. I was not quite four, but I do remember seing it.

Currently, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter is orbiting the Moon, and has sent back the first photos of the landing sites where the Lunar Module Descent stages of five of the six landings are visible, as well as tracks left by Apollo 14 astronauts walking on the Moon:

    http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/mult...pollosites.html

And yes... if you look reeeeeal hard, you can see their footprints! RIP Effie! ;)

  3. I was in school and they brought a TV in to the classroom so we could watch it live. I can't believe it's been 40 years!

Were you in China at the time?

"At 02:56 UTC on Monday July 21 (10:56pm EDT, Sunday July 20), 1969, Armstrong began his descent to the Moon's surface."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_11

I wish my parents had forced to watch the event. I was 4 and have no memory of it. Pretty disappointing to be too young for the landing and dead by the time we land somebody on Mars.

ALC - you need to get your information straight. (go figure  )

Your cut-n-paste from wikipedia: "At 02:39 UTC on Monday July 21 (10:39pm EDT, Sunday July 20), 1969, Armstrong opened the hatch, and at 02:51 UTC began his descent to the Moon's surface." overlooks the fact that this was Neil's egress from the LM. Remember the famous "One small step for (a) man..."?

The landing was at: "Armstrong took semi-automatic control[12] and, with Aldrin calling out altitude and velocity data, landed at 20:17 UTC on July 20 with about 25 seconds of fuel left." is indicative of the landing on the moon when it was reported to Houton the "the Eagle has landed". This was nearly 6 1/2 hours before Neil set foot on the moon. 20:17 UTG (GMT in this case) was 4:17PM EST and 1:17PM PST. I was not in school at the time due to summer vacation but that is not to say that some kids were not on a different schedule. I do remember seeing many of the events from Apollo missions on CCTV at school. Oh... I lived in the Seattle area, not in China.

  4. I was 7. That evening (it wasn't until nearly 8:00pm local that Neil exited the LM and stepped foot on the moon) my brother and I went outside to look at the moon. We lived in Langley, WA at the time and right around the corner was the Dog House Saloon. Been there forever. Anyway, Effie, an old woman and quite a regular at the Dog House, came stumbling by and saw us looking up at the moon. I'll never forget her saying as she squinted and pointed at the moon "If you look reeeeeal hard, you can see their footprints". My brother and I just looked at each other and when she had stumbled off we busted out laughing.

  5. Actually if you can read English you can judge for yourself who threw the first punch. Your opinion of who started what is only that, your opinion. Once you understand that someone else may view it differently than you, you will be on the road to understanding how foolish I think your post here is. Hey, that's just my opinion right? Other than that I really don't give a damn if you accept my behavior or not. The issue is now solved and my questions have been answered.

    Really! You need Anger Management.

I feel sorry for your SO.

Thanks for the input Dr. Phil. I'll take it under advisement.

Far out - another VJ psychologist.

  6. And now insults, better and better  and on top of that, absolutely not my point -

    :ot:

Actually, if you knew Russian you would see that it was the OP who started the insults. Therefore, in some respect, he got back the same treatment he started.

Put the following phrase the OP wrote in a translator and you will notice the original insult:

Я не ваш друг, я не ваш товарищ, вы тщеславный свинья

If he had written that to me, I would have not accepted his behavior, no matter that my answer was not what he was looking for. In life you can only expect the same kind of treatment you give others. Better than that, and consider yourself lucky.

And to the OP, now come back and insult me because my post is Off Topic. Do it in Russian, and I will be glad to translate it for everybody. You need a little bit of "Anger Management."

    :ot2:

  7. Taking Victor down today for his Driver's License. He has been working hard at the on-line prep test and thinks it is time to try it. Today we will go without the translator. He wants to see what he can do on his own. If that fails then we will reschedule with a translator. I think that he will do just fine on signs and the road test but I have my doubts about the reading/writing portion but we will see what happens.

Tanya is going to follow his lead after he reports back on what she should expect.

    Keeping fingers crossed...

    Follow-up:

He aced the sign test. I talked to a woman I work with and her son just took the road test and she told me the route they use. We went through that several times and I am confident that he will have no problems with that. We have gone through the manual and checked off every area they will grade him on and he is good to go there. Sadly the DUI wording and several other questions kicked his butt. I will be getting a translator for his next go at this. His first road rules test he got 3 wrong and 6 right at which point it ended the test. Second try he did much better at 11 correct and 6 wrong. With translation dictionary and electronic translator in hand, the wording of the questions just do not mechanically translate well enough for him to pick up on several tricky questions (no I did not say trick this time but they are worded to be a bit confusing and mechanical translation just cannot do the job). Florida DUI laws are really complicated and I even failed the on-line practice test in this area several times. We should all count our lucky stars that we don't have to take this exam every few years.

Anyway we will try again next week. Tanya will go and take the computer tests (road rules and signs) to see where she still needs study. Hopefully Victor will breeze through it next time.

  8. 2) Proof of his citizenship has been provided to those people whose job it is to decide such matters and their requirement it appears, was satisfied.

most of the people posting in this thread have no idea how complicated the matter of barry's eligability is. hell, i don't even understand all of the details, and can't remember most of them that i've read. i would need to outline the questions on 5 pages single spaced to consider them.

Therefore you are going to assert that what you say is fact.

do a little research on "fact check" and you will discover that it is funded by the annenberg foundation, which is a sock puppet of the left wing political machine.

what you posted is a 2007 certificate of live birth. it is not a "long form" birth certificate.

the difference is that what you posted could have been given to a foreign born in 1961.

representatives of the state of HI vital records have attested that what you posted is an accurate copy of the certificate of live birth on file.

they have consistently refused to answer questions in regard to the existence, or lack thereof, of any long form record.

I was born in Alabama and for purposes of my military service and security clearance, the United States Government readily accepted a similar certified document from the Dept of Vital Statistics of the State of Alabama as proof of my citizenship and birth. What has been provided is more than enough proof for me but I guess I am just one of the lambs...

  10. I just got home and my blood pressure must have gone up there while driving. I couldn't stop yelling things in the car today while driving. No one else could hear me, of course, but grr! "What the heck are you doing!!?" "MOVE over!", etc. :innocent:

    Why are they driving?!!!

Ah - I see the Texas idiot is at it again. I am not fooled by the attempt at misdirection. Just a reminder that this thread is not about foreigners, but drivers in general who do not obey the laws or drive in a safe or considerate manner.

  11. Justashooter,

So what you are asking us for is to provide you, the skeptic, with our original copy of Obama's USA BC proving his citizenship, right? I'm going to take a long trip out on a limb here and point out a couple of things:

    1) I will never surrender my copy of his original BC. It's mine and you can't have it!

    2) Proof of his citizenship has been provided to those people whose job it is to decide such matters and their requirement it appears, was satisfied.

Let it go man. Let him get on with his job and us on with our lives and you on with yours, that is if you have one outside of VJ and continuing to keep this foolish assertion alive. Seriously, don't you have something better to do to effect a positive change on society? Maybe volunteer at a homeless shelter or pick up trash off the road. Things like that have an immediate benefit to our country, our society and your community.
