  1. this packet 3 pickup info is much appreciated! so what's the method for making an appointment to pick up this packet 3? do you call the embassy? can you set up an appointment at the website? when you get notification that the packet 3 has been mailed, is it too late to try to pick it up or do they have a stack of packet 3s already made up? this part has me confused!

belwinmills- what grade do you teach? i am also a teacher (kdg) and i LOVE my spring breaks. i wish i worked for a school system that operated on a balanced-calendar instead of the traditional school year. i'd appreciate the more frequent breaks. one more week and i fly to jamaica, OH YEAH!

  2. thanks for looking that up jlvr. you saved me some time in researching that. mononoke has a good point that maybe the different embassies will have specific requirements. hopefully we can hear from someone who's dealt specifically with jamaica. but until then, you better believe that i'm printing this and including it in the book i'm taking to my fiance. i've already told him to start hunting down his immunization record.

  3. She is just beautiful  I LOVE dogs. I've always had one ever since I was a little kid. Tony's biggest complaint about the dog being in the house is all the dog hair  But, I don't allow him (the dog, not Tony :P ) on the furniture or in the bed.

oh rhonda, she is so baaaad! she has separation anxiety so while i'm not home she's chewing on the woodwork. she also helps herself to any dirty dishes in the sink. i mean this dog will actually take the dishes out of the sink! i've lost count of all the spatulas she's ruined over the years. i used to crate her in a metal cage, but she's managed to break out of it so many times that it's permanently warped. plus she was getting really bad abrasions from squeezing out of the still-latched door. she's ruined the darn thing.

minfay, during the summer when i'm not working, she's the sweetest dog ever. but once i start working she gets neurotic on me. for 4 years my fiance has been making remarks about how dogs shouldn't be inside. i highly doubt he'll go for my mia sleeping in the bed between us. your other half is really open-minded for a jamaican! lol

  4. i haven't felt like crying (yet) over this visa process. but i have had some sleepless nights (both due to gathering paperwork/researching and stressing over the hope that everything will be done right). i sometimes cry when i'm lonely, and longing for my SO.

funny thing is, i used to ALWAYS cry the day i had to leave him and return to the states, until after we got engaged. now i just squeeze him tight and leave happy. lol

  5. how nice that "us slowpokes" get a place of our own to sulk when we hear about our fellow VSC cohorts getting approvals in weeks while we wait months. this whole process is definitely teaching me patience, it a lesson i have to learn over and over again.

the bridal boutique called me today wondering why the bridesmaids are taking so long to choose and get fitted for their dresses. i told her that unlike most brides, a wedding date will be the last thing i can finalize. lol

  6. Just another tidbit of information (and/or suggestion).......

Instead of paying for passport photos upon passport photos..... I had one of Craig's passport photos that he gave to me (in the very beginning) and I brought it home and made copies on my copier/scanner at home onto FUJI photo film and so he had a TON, but it only cost me $4.00 for 12 sheets of glossy film paper. He had about 15 photos that I copied.

If anyone has capability of doing that....and getting it to your SO.....it saves in the extra expense!

    Kelly

I tell everyone the same thing except if you take the picture and go to somewhere they have the Kodak picture maker you can make a sheet of passport pictures for under 50 cents. I did that with my passport pictures and the ones we just sent in for the AOS.

$7.99 for 2 pictures. Highway robbery....

i thought that was awful expensive for 2 photos as well. i went to walgreens for my passport photo for the I-129f and didn't bother looking at the final product until i got home. i thought, it's a passport photo, how can someone mess that up? well, when i went to attach it to my petition, i saw that my photo was positively orange! it looked horrible. i went back to the sales associate and had her retake it.

since passport photos are so dog gone expensive for us, i thought it would be for my fiance too. he says that they are really cheap in jamaica.

  7. darlene- thanks for complimenting my name. would you believe i forgot my name twice and had to re-register here on VJ with different names? lol i'm such a dork!

I just love your little picture of the dog's nose! :luv: I have a yellow lab and it looks like it could be him!! Do you have a dog?

thanks rhondapayter. the dog in my avatar is a weimaraner. they're usually a very pretty silvery-gray color and kinda look like a lab only with short hair. some people say my weimaraner looks like a horse because of her coat and muscular build.

here's a pic of her. she's 9 years old and my fiance has his heart set on kicking her out since (like many jamaicans) he thinks that dogs are dirty and should be kept outside. wait til he sees her sitting on the couch and sneaking into bed. lol! that's my baby.

  8. Hubby went to clinic in St. Anns Bay and got all of the shots on the list done, and that cost about $6000 (I think, I posted the price in one of the older Yardie threads) so when we went to Kingston he just had to do the medical. That saved us a lot of money, from what I've read some had their shots done from civil surgeon and paid about $12,000J+ for them

thanks jonesie. i'll have my guy do the same. will the clinic know what shots we'll need?

  9. My Husband just did this on Wed and picked it up on Friday. The fastest way possible is 3 days. He went Wed very early and got it taken care of. Go early because you have to go to 2 different places on different sides of Kingston. Then he will need to drive back to Kingston to pick it up later.

dangit! so there is no courier service for the police report. isn't it totally nuts that you have to travel through kingston to accomplish one task? we'll be sure to leave in the wee hours of the morning when we do this. thanks!

    a few more questions:

can someone who already got the packet containing necessary immunizations for the medical exam please share them with me? i heard it's cheaper to get immunizations at a clinic.

i think i read that he'll need the noa2 letter in order to pick up packet 3. does it need to be the original noa2, or can i scan it for email/fax it to him?

the I-864 IS only for folks who are already married right?

my K-1 book is almost 200 pages long! i'll be picking up the last of the required documents (bank letter and notarize the I-134) tomorrow. all my fiance needs is the police report and med. exam. he already has about 10 passport photos but i think i'll send him back to get a few profile photos just in case the embassy asks for it.

  10. darlene- thanks for complimenting my name. would you believe i forgot my name twice and had to re-register here on VJ with different names? lol i'm such a dork!

i've spent this entire weekend preparing all the necessary documents, and the yardies thread has been such a Godsend! Thanks so much for your contributions.

i will be going with my fiance to get the police record in april and i've researched what everyone said. here's what i'm wondering: is it possible to get the police report the same day? and those of you who got the expedited 3-day service, was it delivered via courier to your fiance's hometown or did he have to go back to kingston to pick it up?

  11. thanks for answering my birth paper question. it's looking like my fiance will have to revisit that same horrid place where he got the no impediment form. anybody know how much this costs?

i heard about the horrid weather on the east coast. my friend had plans to see baby cham in concert but it's looking like that probably won't happen.

    have a great weekend!

  12. thanks for the warm welcome everyone! i just read the last 30+ pages and i've copied/pasted a lot of important information. i'll take a copy of it to my fiance and hopefully it'll save a lot of inconvenience when he goes to gather his paperwork. we already have the no-impediment (boy was that a wild-goose chase!), and i think we'll be getting his police records while i'm visiting him.

i only have one question so far: someone mentioned that he'll need his long-form birth certificate. what does the long form look like? he sent me one of his certified birth papers and it doesn't look "long". it has his birth info, mother's info, etc. but it's on a half-sheet of paper. will this suffice?

  13. hello! i am a newbie, and i have to admit that the amount of information on VJ is overwhelming! i am so thankful to have VJ as a resource. filing K-1 wouldn't have been possible without it! i just realized that there is a yaardie thread so i thought i'd go on an introduce myself to you all.

i've been in a long distance relationship with a jamaican fella for almost 4 years, and i'll be heading out on trip #11 in a few weeks. we are currently awaiting for noa2, and i'd like to bring all necessary documents post-noa2 to my fiance on this trip. so i'll be spending my free time this weekend perusing this thread to take advantage of all the information here.

    looking forward to getting acquainted!

  14. :luv: So I posted last week questioning whether it was even possible that the on-line USCIS site said our I-129F was approved or if it was all a big mistake... Well, it was no mistake because I got the NOA2 in the mail today!!!:dance::dance:   It was approved, not sure how but what do I care... this is amazing and thank you all for your support. I know this will not be the last time I ask for it, so thanks in advance. WOOOHOOO... NVC and Cuba here we come... let the waiting continue.

i got soooo excited when i read this. i thought, if it happened that fast for you, maybe the rest of us CSC filers will benefit from it too. but then i remembered, one sliver of the US goes to VSC, and the rest of the dog-gone country goes to CSC! geez, looks like the Lord is trying to remind me that patience is a virtue.

  15. thanks chad+lira. filing the petition wouldn't have been possible without visajourney!

by the way, i couldn't help but notice all the filipino beneficiaries. my mother is filipina and came to the states on a fiancee visa over 30 years ago. now that i am filing for my fiance she keeps "informing" me what steps i need to take...and then says, "it was much easier back in my day, ap-tar (after) nine-elebben (eleven) it got much harder." lol

  16. hello visa journey members! i am new to this site and i must say that it's such a blessing to read all the information available here. i've learned a lot, and it's been helpful to read what others have posted.

i also sent my i-129f to the nebraska service center, and was perplexed to learn that it had been sent on to california. i'm having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that the california service center is actually farther away from me than my foreign fiance! lol
