  1. Can you tell me more about the MiPhone? I also have been trying to read up on that as well but it all seem so confusing. I cld "foreignphone" but the plan do seem worth it to me. It would cost me $39.99 a month for the package, then 17 cents a mins PLUS I would to change phone #'s. I have family across the globe and for me to change #'s seems a bit much.

My husband doesn't have access to the net. I was looking into adding a landline w/the net but he's tell me it don't make sense. Not sure why, but he must know.

i don't know that much about miphone. i'm told that it has a flat rate for both domestic and foreign calls.

jonesie congrats on your baby boy!

  2. :ot:

Ok, I've been on here asking about different ViOP services and cld each one. Basically the savings are not that much for me to go the extra route of either having my # changed or purchasing the equipment. I currently pay 35 cents a min thru AT&T as my long distance carrier. Anyway, I am interested in hearing more about this MegaFone. I was told I could purchase a CDMA phone here in the states and have it unlocked and they would be able to transfer service to my phone. Is that correct? What about MiPhone? Does anyone know about that?

we haven't had the best of luck with megafone. i think my fiance is on his 3rd phone. when it works, we can talk for about 49 seconds and then it drops the call. even though it's fickle, i've still managed to save about 50% on my long distance bill. he's got a miphone, c&w, and the megafone. he was telling me that one is his phones offers a package deal similar to megafone but hasn't gotten very far in checking it out. i've also heard about foreignphone (voip). it's linked with c&w and you connect this box to your cable modem. it's supposed to be like 17 cents/min to a cell phone. i recently tried using yahoo messenger to call him. i had to buy a phone card and it ended up being like 24 cents/min to call his cell. it's not as convenient because i have to be attached to my pc to talk to him.

my ideal situation would be to talk eachother through yahoo messenger. to me, just paying for an internet connection and being able to talk unlimited would be great. my fiance however, hates the internet.

  3. hey sonshyne. what'd you guys end up doing regarding the civil surgeon? i've called 2 so far. the first one wanted to charge me $200 just to fill out the I-693. that preposterous! so i called another one and she said that as long as we can show that he's had a syphillis and hiv test, an mmr, tetanus, and varicella vaccine, and a tb skin test then they'll fill out the i-693 and charge us $75 for the physical. how much did you guys have to pay?

  4. that didn't make sense to me at all. the purpose of notarizing is to verify that your signature is on a document. the i-134 obviously needs to be notarized, but tax returns? that's silly. why would we need to sign our tax returns? but i read through packet 3 and it did say that 2 or more of the following items are needed:

    -notarized tax returns

-statement from employer verifying employment and income

-letter from the bank verifying bank account deposits and balance

-any other evidence that demonstrates the ability to assume financial responsibility for immigrant

i didn't get my tax returns notarized, and they're already with my fiance. i'm not freaking out because notarizing tax returns is stupid. i really don't see the embassy making a big stink about the tax returns unless the looked like they've been doctored up. besides, i have tax returns and tax transcripts for the past three years. the tax transcripts came straight from the US government.

  5. wow jengles it's a good thing the visa came fast. how exciting!

my poor fiance's arm is sore from being "jooked" at the medical. they gave him 2 shots in the right arm and one in the left. i remember reading a suggestion to have the i-693a filled out at the medical and then placed in a sealed envelope. so he asked about this form and no one had any idea what he was talking about, lol. all he got was his immunization card that documents the 3 shots he received at the medical. should i be concerned?

  6. Oh no.....X ray machine is broken. I'll advise my fiance tomorrow is his appointment. Please advise on his final bill. I think my fiance should be okay with the fees...just want to give him an idea of how much it costs with 3 shots.

yeah, my fiance said it's pretty busy there. he said the bill was a bit more than $11,000J. i hope that's the total bill and not just what the immunizations cost. he said he brought $95US for the exam fee plus another $8,000J for shots.

he met a distant cousin at the exam today. he has a unique last name and there was another man there with the same last name. they chatted for a bit about their common relatives and exchanged numbers. imagine that!

so minfay, will his immunization card be sufficient for the aos?

so now that we know what they do to the men, what do the women have to endure? do they have to get pelvic exams?

  7. my fiance has been at his medical exam since 8:30am. the x-ray machine is broken, so mobay hope is transporting everyone to another facility in falmouth in "batches." the last group left at midday and just returned not too long ago. hopefully, my fiance is in the next batch. this is turning out to be an all-day event. it's a good thing today was his day off or he wouldn't have made it to work. he had to get 3 shots. and yes, the doctor examined his "goods" just like they did mr. jengles. much to his relief, he had a female doctor examine him. when i told him that they'd be looking at "every part of him", he said he wasn't letting a male near him. lol!

i'm trying to think ahead to the aos phase once he gets here. so far, all he's gotten is an immunization card and the bill (of course they dare not forget that right? lol). is the i-691a going to be given to him at the exam or will it be sent to the embassy? someone on here said that it's important to get the doctor to fill out an i-691a. does he have to specifically ask for it?

  8. i read in packet 3 that the ds-156 must be completed on the internet and then printed out. do you think the embassy will make a big stink about the ds-157 being hand written? i filled out everything i knew, but my fiance couldn't remember his work history since he's been at the same job for so long. so i brought it to him the last time i was there and he filled out that section by hand. i thought i should go ahead and do another one just so that it's completely typed out...and then i lost the info, and then my computer started acting up and now i can't view any .pdf documents on my computer. so basically, i can't complete the form. lol i hope it won't be a big deal.

  9. my fiance said the interview letter arrived. i was concerned because of the discrepancy futuremrs had with their interview date but ours said aug. 7th. with it being so close to the interview i'm not sure if he'll get his medical done in time. he said he's going to schedule it today. i'm not stressing about it though. i don't think it'll affect his arrival date.

He can get his medical done as long as they have an opening...where does he live he can go to any of the 3 places....u can def get a date within a couple of days

he lives in mobay and has his mind set on going to mobay hope.

kimmy your hubby recently had the medical, did they give him a blood and urine test or just a blood test?

  10. hello everyone,

I had the baby on Monday and hubby passed his interview yesterday, he said the officer told him out of 45 people so far for the morning, he was the only one who got a visa. I'm still waiting to hear all the details so I can pass it along.

Thanks to and for all the VJers, who posted info and answered questions, I'm sure without VJ and that very important binder he would not have passed.

you deserve a double congratulations! you named your baby jenelle right? how big was she? how's big brother adjusting?

  12. One of my friends used her student loan money to visit JA every time she went!! There's always a way.

i had to laugh when i read this because i wanted to go back to school this summer and i was sho nuff gonna use my loan money to pay for the wedding! but as it turns out, i can't start the coursework for my intended major until next summer.

rhonda you should see my basement. it's an appliance graveyard. when my washer and dryer gave up the ghost and just went to a used appliance store and bought a new set. my basement stairs are steep so by the time the delivery guy got the replacements downstairs he was too tired to take the old ones back to the shop.

finesse it's a good thing you can look at this with humor. at least you got a date at the end of august which is what you needed.

  13. I HAVE A ? WHEN U SEND IN UR PHONE BILL DO U HIGHLIGHT ALL OF UR CALL

I didn't because it was too many calls to highlight.

THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING THATS TO MANY CALL TO BE HIGHLIGHING

I'm sure they will get the point.

i use verizon and i was able to view my calls online. so all i had to do was download that month's calls to excel and then i could filter out all the calls so that only the 876 ones showed. then i printed them off. i bet it doesn't matter if they're highlighted though.

  14. how did you guys print off your text messages? i have verizon and i've tried to print them off but had no luck. then my phone broke and i had to get it replaced and lost all the text messages that i got from him. it really made me sad.

I know how you feel. I had a voice mail from Tony from when he was still in Jamaica (during the hurricane!) I'd had it for almost 3 years and it got automatically deleted :crying: I had another one from him of him singing to me and that one got deleted too :(

i save all his voicemails too! the oldest one is a year and a half. everytime my voicemails says it's going to delete the messages i resave them.

apple vacations and worry-free do have "air only" packages. there's a travel agency in my town that uses these companies. i've only used apple 3 times, and the rest of my trips were with worry-free. they were usually a bit cheaper.

  15. at least you do have open enrollment at your job. my job has closed enrollment. he must be added within 30 days or he can't be added at all! so that would've been a major problem if we had applied for the spouse visa. it's too doggone expensive to pay insurance premiums for over a year while he's still in jamaica with his own insurance. i adopted my son but i chose not to add him to my insurance. since he's considered a "special needs" child, the state of indiana will keep him on medicaid until he's 18. then when that one drops off i can add him to my insurance as long as he's in college. if his current insurance drops him then my insurance will allow me to pick him up.

I was thinking the same thing, but after talked to a few ppl I figured it would be another proof of relationship. Oh well, maybe I can do something else.

oh anna, if your insurance is anything like mine, you'd do better to save the extra money you would've put into the premiums to take a trip down there to see him. my insurance triples when i add someone. then you at least you can gather proof with travel receipts and pictures of being together as well as having some quality time with your hubby.

  16. she insists that my fiance won't get an approval unless we have written letters to each other

Two years ago the only proof I submitted were the phone records, one REALLY bad picture of us (it was so dark you couldn't really see our faces) and one affidavit from my friend who was with me when we met. Along with all the travel info from the three trips I took back to Jamaica to see him. Even though I was freaking out that we didn't have a lot of "proof" we had no problems. Because of my lack of information I made sure I went to the interview. They didn't ask for ANY proof at the interview.

it does seem like they don't ask for proof unless the beneficiary goes alone. i feel better now mindy, thanks.

  17. Quick Question:

For those of you that are filing the CR/IR visas when did you add your spouse to your medical plan? I'm looking into adding my husband but can't find out if I can still add him now or do I have to wait until open enrollment?

at least you do have open enrollment at your job. my job has closed enrollment. he must be added within 30 days or he can't be added at all! so that would've been a major problem if we had applied for the spouse visa. it's too doggone expensive to pay insurance premiums for over a year while he's still in jamaica with his own insurance. i adopted my son but i chose not to add him to my insurance. since he's considered a "special needs" child, the state of indiana will keep him on medicaid until he's 18. then when that one drops off i can add him to my insurance as long as he's in college. if his current insurance drops him then my insurance will allow me to pick him up.

  18. ok, after the incessant nagging of my mother, i've decided that i some clarification on this: she insists that my fiance won't get an approval unless we have written letters to eachother. i have sent him letters early on in our relationship. but once we got really serious i stopped writing him since we talk on the phone all the time. for proof of a relationship, i have nearly a year's worth of phone records, all of the pics we've taken together, and a few envelopes from letters i've sent him. he has never sent me a letter before. i set up an email account for him a while ago so that i can send him any pertinent info for the visa. he has yet to even log on, lol. if it weren't for our text messages i wouldn't have any written communication from him. since i'm not able to print off our texts, i've decided to log on to his email account and resend what he texts me in email format so that i can at least print them off and include it on our binder. it's not exactly honest, but it's not fabricated either.

so i guess my question is has anyone gotten an approval using phone records and pictures and not snail mail? i keep thinking my mother's advice is outdated since she went through the visa process over 30 years ago (back when access to phone records, text messaging, and email was non-existent).

  19. Hi everybody...

Sorry I haven't been on lately, my internet was out Friday until today but now it is fixed! Marlon called me on Friday and told me that he received his interview letter "packet 4" BUT the date and time stated August 14 @ 7:30am! I am not complaining though, it gives me more time to pull a flight miracle out of my #######! lol

whoa what happened? having 2 different interview dates is a scary thought. i'll be really mad if the same thing happens to us. it's a good thing for you because it gives you an extra week, but i've made special provisions to attend an intervew on aug. 7th. i DO NOT want to find out the date has been changed.

good luck on your exam sarah!
