  1. jengles, so since your fiance sent his paperwork via courier, does he still have to wait for packet 4 to arrive snail mail?

i left a complete binder with all of the paperwork he needs. all of the papers needed at the embassy are ready to go.

my fiance still has to go to kingston to get his police certificate so i figured it'd be just as easy for him to drop off the ds-230 and go to the police station on the same day. i really need to visit the embassy website and see what's up.

  2. Hi everyone,

came back from JA last night,

question - does anyone have a june interview??

Hubby sent the ds-230 by courier on Monday to the embassy, I called the embassy on Friday to confirm that they recieved the form and they said yes they got it. So I start asking about the interview date. and my girl says call back the end of JULY to see if the mailed him out the interview packet, I'm like what?????? she says there is a delay because they are not giving any interviews during the month of June and they are not giving out any interview dates right now. I almost fell off my chair.

Can they just stop giving interviews? To me a package sent by the end of July equals a September interview date. So not happy with that!

holy #######! that's completely nuts! i sure hope she has her info wrong. i know that jlvr's fiance has a june interview date. we just got noa2 a few weeks ago and i'm so eager to get the file sent to the embassy. the nvc said that it ought to be sent off within the week. i'm still a bit confused about what's next though.

so when the embassy gives my fiance the appointment to drop off the ds-230, is that when he also picks up packet 4? when is the interview appointment scheduled? why cant he just he do it all in one shot? that would just make everything too simple huh? lol

sarah, i'm so glad you got noa2. how cool that you got it on your birthday!

  3. suppose to be my last trip to JA

    ???

    Updated 5/9/07

Poll How long did you know your SO in person before you applied for their Visa? If anyone wants to participate

Less than 6 months 1 (Rhonda & Tony)

6 months to a year 2 AlienUKGirl and Marlita

    One year 0

    Two years 1 Ebony Sean

    Three years 0

    Four years 0

Five or more years 4 Jax, Anna, KimmyKashi, KKholiday

 Lets see...I filed for him 1 year after we met.( included five trips to JA and 1 trip to DR) I've only "known" him for about two months

    3.5 for me.

...and i got some good news late last night.

    NOA2

    yeah baby!!!!

  4. Oh well. So now I am trying to think if I should tell my grandparents cousins and aunts and uncles that I am close to. I know they all wouldnt be able to go to the wedding in JA, so I am wondering if I just leave it a secret from them til I he gets here. Knowing my family they wont be able to keep their mouths shut for too long. I havent had the best support in the whole situation either. Never thought my family would be so close minded, but they constantly seem to amaze me with their ignorance.

marlita i feel you! only with me...my whole family is actually thrilled to death but daddy is a whole other story. i can't touch this topic with a 10 ft pole with him. and it makes me feel like such a coward! even his brothers and sisters are telling me, "forget your dad! you do what makes you happy." i have to admit that it's kinda painful to think that my own father won't walk me down the aisle.

  5. great question marlita! we originally wanted to have a wedding in jamaica. if my friends and family really wanted to come, they could. unfortunately, that's not the case with my fiance. since we're going the k-1 route and are forbidden to marry there i asked him if he'd like to have a fake ceremony there. he said he didn't want to do something if it was "just for show." he suggested that we could go on and have the wedding in the states (because we have to do it that way, lol) and we'd have an engagement party in jamaica.

by the way, who can tell me how to get my ticker to work right? when i copied and pasted the bb link it didn't work here.

and i ain't too ashamed to say you can add me to that baby list. we both turn 30 this year and we're eager to get started. ;)

Hey girl, what is your real name again? I'm sorry, I forgot it

i don't think i ever said what my real name was...it's Lurissa

I'm another 'never'....Of course having grown up in Jamaica no-one belives me when I say I've never even tried a cigarette let alone ganja.....

I used to be on the IUD, only thing was it made my periods HEAVY :(

remind me to tell you an IUD story my mom told me about when she lived in the philippines. you are gonna die with laughter when you hear about it!

  8. Never 1

    Sometimes 1

    Yes Indeed 0

i've added my fiance to the list. i'm actually a "never" person myself. i made it through my high school/college years without experimenting, and i said to myself i'll never need to experience it. now that i've been to jamaica 11 times, people don't believe me when i say that i still have never tried it. lol

belwin, i'll let you go first. you've been married for a while. i'm sending baby vibes your way girl!

  9. thanks for the tips jomo's girl. i won't worry too much about his diploma then. he doesn't seem too interested in going back to school. and i'll advise him to get 2 copies of his long form birth certificate. he sent me an original bc, but i hear that one is no longer valid.

I wouldn't worry too much about the diploma....not even sure it would be "accepted" here. "Everyone" <employers> are interested in knowing if Roy got his GED....they could really care less what happened in Jamaica

Regarding the Birth Certificate -- I had Roy get two "originals" One we gave them at the interview and one he has here <and we have used it a few times>. I am going to have to order another "copy" because we have to send one to get his Passport renewed.....if you can, maybe you should have him get three copies....I wish Roy would have done that.

that's a good tip. i'll suggest it to him when he goes to get his long form bc.

a tip for anyone with an upcoming medical who will be "fasting from a certain kind of herb": i bought a home drug test kit from walmart and left it with him with instructions to use the kit prior to the medical exam to ensure that everyting will be criss. lol

:D I love how you phrased that so tactfully!! My friends fiance (from JA too) actually went to his own personal doctor to get tested BEFORE he went to the actual Medical exam!! They wanted to make absolutely sure he was clean  I even delivered him two sets of those pills that help clear out your system - he took one before each test.

No way woman!! You're at the top now  You said you guys were going to be working on it immediately after he gets here :innocent:

that was very smart of him rhonda. i was curious as to how much a test costs in jamaica and i was going to have him do the same thing until i happened to see that walmart had a home test. all that much more convenient, and it wasn't too expensive...only 20 bucks.

and i ain't too ashamed to say you can add me to that baby list. we both turn 30 this year and we're eager to get started. ;)

  10. Yep. I told her the same thing.

Better find those immunization records, Tia. If not, yes, he will probably have to get a whole new set of shots. They can be very costly. Make sure he brings them with him to the US too. We thought we lost Andre's, at one point. I was ready to kill him.

We have an old birth certificate of Andre's. No one has questioned it thus far. We've showed it at immigration, the DMV, SS office, etc.

you're telling me that jomo never did get the updated bc and no one had any problems with it? wow i thought for sure that somebody somewhere would've had an issue with it. wow.

my fiance's bc doesn't have his father listed on it either. i'm actually a bit confused about it, because i didn't think a child could take his father's last name unless the father's info is on it. (i don't think they were married at the time of his birth) so when i mentioned this to him, he decided to ask his mom about it. her only response was, "go ask your father why his name isn't on it." she was so nonchalant about it i almost laughed out loud.

another thing i just can't believe is that his date of birth is wrong! how in the hell can someone mess up a date of birth on a birth certificate for crying out loud??? isn't that the whole purpose of a bc? lol!

  11. ricardo i am very happy for both of you, especially after that horrid interview. when's his arrival?

hello jomo's girl and furturemrs. since i've heard both of you (and jilly) refer to vj i thought i'd check it out. ohmygoodness this site was a confusing place when i first joined! there is soooo much information, and the terminology was strange. it is however a VERY helpful site and i'm so glad i'm here!

thanks for the tips jomo's girl. i won't worry too much about his diploma then. he doesn't seem too interested in going back to school. and i'll advise him to get 2 copies of his long form birth certificate. he sent me an original bc, but i hear that one is no longer valid.

now the thing that bothers me is his immunization record. we asked his mom if she knew where it was and she has no clue. boy i sure hope it turns up somewhere in the house!

a tip for anyone with an upcoming medical who will be "fasting from a certain kind of herb": i bought a home drug test kit from walmart and left it with him with instructions to use the kit prior to the medical exam to ensure that everyting will be criss. lol

  12. good morning everyone! my word you all have been busy here this past week! it's gonna take me forever to catch up on my reading. i visited my fiance last week and brought him the big ol' fiance visa binder and another smaller one for his records. they were so heavy that it made my luggage overweight by 12 pounds. lol! we went over the book together and i had him sign all the consular forms. the only thing he still needs to get is the police record and his medical. i was hoping that we could both drive out to kingston to get the police record while i was there...but neither one of us had the extra money. and since he has to go to kingston to drop off the ds-230 anyways, he can just get the police record then. now everyone here is saying that the quickest you can get one is 3 days, but my fiance is saying that you can actually get one the same day. he says it costs more, but that a friend of his just did this and he got it the same day. we'll see....

some things that concern me: he threw away his high school diploma (he spilled something on it and thought he didn't need it anymore) and his mother has no idea where his immunization record is. does that mean he has to get ALL those shots again?

did anyone else find it necessary to bring the high school diploma to the states? my mom immigrated to the states back in the 70s and i don't think she brought hers.

  13. Ok you guys, since I have time on my hands as I await our Visa delivery. I have scanned & saved in PDF the entire contents of Packet #3 for all upcoming petitioners. How do I post this?

Here it is.............Reading you can see why some of us were worried about the $335 request & side profile shots & I-864. Crazy.

thank you so much for posting this! so those of you who were recently interview: these items were not necessary? another thing i just don't get is why do the tax returns need to be notarized?

  14. texasbound you must be so frustrated with the big hold up with the visa. i'm sorry all this is going on...and i hope he gets it soon!

you all got me all excited talking about weddings here. the thing i hate most is that you can plan and prepare everything except the date. when people ask me, "when's the wedding?" all they get back is "i dunno." ahhhh is driving me nuts! lol

i am so glad someone mentioned having a potluck reception. i want to do that since the food will be our biggest expense, and we need to set some money aside for the AOS. i was afraid a potluck would be too tacky! it would be really hard for me to just have something small, since my family is huge and my coworkers want to attend. there will be at least 100 people there. thankfully, the staff at my school are wonderful and i was told that if i needed help with anything at all, all i have to do is ask. i'm staying positive that i can pull off a decent wedding because i really just want to do it once!

  15. she is so baaaad! she has separation anxiety so while i'm not home she's chewing on the woodwork

I have three who have separation anxiety -- and I am not talking about Roy

Slash -- my boy -- he ate one couch and numerous shoes. Axl -- my girl -- she ate two holes in the wall, the wood stairs and she too broke out of her cage. She was bruised and bloody from prying the metal apart. Lola -- my mongrel -- she ate TWO couches AND my vertical blinds. Not to mention countless ornaments off the Christmas tree, the outside fence and every pool "toy" that we had. I have tried everything to calm them down.....nothing works. That is, until Roy got here. They all just LOVE him and have turned into different dogs since his arrival. <Actually, Slash & Axl grew out of their problems -- Lola on the other hand....she will never grow up  >

They are so spoiled -- I was so nervous about how he was going to react to them. He would always ask me where they slept -- ha, ha -- in bed with me!!! I am very lucky. Hopefully you will be too!!

that is so freakin funny....i have a dog too..a pitbull...who is totally spoiled and a big baby...my fiance is BEGGING me to get rid of him before he comes...partly because he is scared of pitbulls but mostly because he thinks it is so bizarre how we treat our animals like humans in America....he does not understand the "bond" in which we have with our dogs....i told him no chance in hell was my dog going anywhere....i know they will be best friends anyways...

well now i know that my dog isn't the only one who's broken out of her cage, lol. doesn't it make you wonder what on earth are they thinking as they injure themselves doing this? i put the cage in the garage after my dog got a really bad cut on the pad of her paw. she tracked blood all over the house and in my bed!!!

Lord, i don't think my fiance will come around on the dog issue. it's not like i can defend all the bad things she's done to the house (that my fiance will be repairing when he gets here, lol). now that she's older, she's incontinent and i got tired of mopping up pee every day. so i've resorted to keeping her outside when i am not home, and she sleeps in the kitchen at night. the only time i leave her in is if it's going to storm.
