so it's a random selection for interviews. i wondered how they did that.
i was so excited to hear about the interview date that i forgot to set up an appointment for the interview letter pick up.
can the interview letter be picked up by a proxy or is it possible to set up a courier delivery from the embassy to the beneficiary? i figure this is a long shot, but i thought i'd ask anyhow.
and i also wanted to make absolutely sure that the i-134 is what's used for the k-1 visa. no one doing the k-1 was required the i-864 unless a sponsor was needed right?

hallelujah!!!
august 7th at 7:30 am
i was worried that i couldn't attend because i go back to work on the 14th. God is good!
-
i've called the embassy over 20 times, nothing but busy signals. then i finally get through and i'm put on hold for 11 minutes. i'm shopping at lowe's during all of this and the PA system interrupted my phone signal and disconnected me!!!
i ought to know our interview date within the next hour if i can get through.
I was just given our interview date today by the embassy. It is set for August 14th. I'm so happy to get this. It's been about 6 months now. Just 6 more weeks to go!I'm calling the embassy now...of course the line is BUSY. I want to know if our date has been set. Congrats on the interview date.
hahaha, are we tying up the phone line?
when i got through earlier i gave them my fiance's name and i heard her shuffling through some paper. then she said, "oh, yes" and put me on hold. what's all that about? just gimme the doggone interview date PLEASE!
-
alien, i'm glad to hear your experience was so pleasant.
-
kimmy i don't think it should really matter whether it's sealed or not. he did open it to make sure the information is correct didn't he?
-
yeah kimmy i'm pretty sure the police record is in a sealed envelope. i remember someone saying a few months ago during their interview that a consular officer with a stank attitude complained that people never open the envelope and that it was an extra inconvenience for her to have to wait for them to open it.
oh lord i'm climbing the walls waiting for word on an interview date! they don't answer my emails, they don't answer the phone...
they wanna be closed today? no worries, i'll still be blowing up their phone line on monday!
-
well jay it's a good thing you checked the website. i've been tryna call this afternoon.
they are such a hot mess over there! i called yesterday and the woman who answered said, "did you know that you're calling during our lunch break?" i told her i'd call tomorrow and she didn't bother telling me that the embassy is closed.

traveling mercies to you and your son alienukgirl!
how on earth did you manage 9 suitcases, your son, and your belly?!
-
wow rhonda it's hard to believe that you're already 15 weeks. a friend of mine had her first ultrasound on dvd and she showed it to me about a month before she had the baby. he was only like 18-20 wks gestation and he was bouncing around like crazy. it was so amazing to see, and it made me cry. when do the books say you should be able to feel the kid moving?
-
jengles, how are your nerves even still intact with everything going on at once? do you know what you're having yet? do you have a name picked out? tell your grandma to chill!
ebony, i bet you guys are so relieved to finally have the visa. that was a really long wait!
-
Marlon texted me to let me know that he finally received his police certificate from the UK as well as Packet 3. It says the Visa fee is $335.00 US?!?!?!
can someone remind me when does this fee get paid? isn't it a part of the AOS once he gets to the states?

my fiance hates dogs (he prefers cats) and he says that when he moves in the dog is moving out.
Oh NO!
What are you going to do if he can't/won't adjust to the dog being inside? I told Tony way before he came here that the dog is my baby and he's not going anywhere! He was there first anyhow! Tony's ok with it now - the only thing he doesn't like is all the dog hair.
well he knew from the first week we started talking that my dog is a house dog. i know for a fact that she can't handle living outside. she's 9 and the life expectantcy for her breed is 10-12 years. so i've decided that i just won't get another dog once she's gone. i think my fiance hates dogs so much because he's had negative experiences with them chasing him and jamaican dogs are dirty. once he sees how sweet and smart my dog is he should come around.
-
Hey everybody,
I do text Marlon and he texts me at least a couple times a week. Yeah I would love to talk to him more but I work 2 jobs! Plus I never call/text him when I am down, it would do no good and he's feel guilty that he can't do anything about it! I won't be on much now because I am moving next weekend and then my class starts on the 2nd. As soon as everything calms down I will pop in!
Congrats to Pam!
Happy Belated Birthday to Belly'sGirl!
you and i must be opposites sarah. when i'm sad i need someone to talk to, if not then i wouldn't be able to get out of my funk. i've cried on the phone with my fiance plenty of times. he's pretty good at encouraging me, and sometimes he even gets me to laugh.
do pop in and let us know when the interview date is. good luck with your move and class. this is the very last one right?

belwin another thing you may want to look into is checking with the local animal hospitals. there's one in my town that takes in puppies/kittens, gives them appropriate shots, neuters them, and then adopts them out cheaper than petsmart. they're also healthier than animals from the shelter. keeping the litter box in the basement is a great idea, that way you won't see litter scattered on the floor in the main living area.
my fiance hates dogs (he prefers cats) and he says that when he moves in the dog is moving out. my dog has been a house dog most of her life and she couldn't handle living outside. hopefully he'll come around when he sees that she's always clean and flea-free. she even sleeps in my room at night.

Ok I have a rant I need to get off my chest. I was getting ready to go grocery shopping this morning so I decided to go online and check my bank account first. As I went thru all of the transactions I saw the the calling card that is set up for Neil to call Jamaica had been recharged several times
.... I have two different calling cards that have auto recharge on them. I have custody of my nephew he uses one of thwm to call his friends in Atlanta... That card has recharged several times also
The total for the month is almost $400
I went to talk to him about it ( of course I was pissed). He told me he would talk less but that he had to talk to Jamaica
And for me to give him a limit
I told him to let his friends from home buy a mega phone and call him, he told me that they aren't easy to get. Although most of his friends have them
I had to politely remind him that I am NOT RICH
He tells me to relax my nerves and that he won't call as much. But I have a easier fix for the problem....
I'm going to take the auto recharge off and only charge it once a month. As for my nephew... I ran and I do mean FAST to the cell phone store and brought him a Damn phone!!
can't wait to see the wedding pics. we plan on getting married on a friday too. i think you've come up with a great compromise for the long distance issue. i'll probably do the same thing too.

I could never have a cat
I can't stand the thought of the poop sitting there INSIDE my house stinky and gross
I'd much rather have a dog who does his business OUTSIDE. Then Tony shovels it up once a week when he cuts the lawn
Do your cats tear up your furniture or do you get them de-clawed? I know they like to scratch everything.
i thought i'd be grossed out with a smelly litterbox too. it's really not bad at all if you buy good quality litter (tidy cats: multiple cat formula) and sift it regularly. my yard however is a different story. i am not the one to pick up dog poop from the yard, i usually let it bio-degrade but now that i have a kid i worry about him playing in the yard and stepping in it. believe it or not, i once used pooper-scooper duty as punishment for him and he actually enjoyed it! after he finished doing it i asked if he'd ever want to do it again (thinking he'd say no) and he said he'd want to do it one more time.
the jury is still out on the whole declaw issue. you usually do that only if they are going to be indoor cats for their whole lives. i declawed my older cat thinking she would be, and the desire to go outside was too strong. now my kittens (named Puss & Boots) haven't been outside yet but that's not to say they won't when they get older. i will definitely neuter them though.

the only time i've never had a pet was during college when i lived in the dorms. i've always had both dogs and cats. cats are much easier and are a better choice if you live a busy life.
belwin i can imagine your intrepidation since you're not an animal person. i agree with luv about the cat & kitten combo. you'll want to make sure they'll get along because some cats can be real bullies. i have a 7 yr old cat that stayed outdoors for years, and then when the weather got sub-zero i felt sorry for her and let her inside. then a few months ago i took 2 littermates in. at first they were so little they had to climb into their food bowl just to eat. it goes without saying that the older cat was very resentful toward the new additions. she'd growl and hiss everytime they came near, but never lashed out at them. now they've learned to tolerate eachother. the older cat basically ignores them. the kittens are much bigger and VERY rambunctious. this is the stage that i hate! they are wild, yet comedic- climbing curtains, attacking your feet in the middle of the night, and knocking things over.
when you get kittens you have to prepare yourself for their wild phase. you have to set limits for them. the easiest way to do it is with a spray bottle. so if you don't want them climbing curtains, running across the table, or attempting to eat off your plate just give them a squirt.
also, a general rule with litterboxes is to have one for each cat plus one additional. i've heard that some cats will refuse to use a litterbox if another cat is using it although i've never encountered that problem. i have three cats and a 1,000 sq ft house. 4 litter boxes is kinda pushing it. so i have 2 of them and i sift out the clumps every few days. the best thing i've ever done for a litterbox is get a rubbermaid storage container and cut a hole in the lid. this gives the cat pleny of privacy and having all 4 sides enclosed with a hole on top for entry/exit really cuts down on mess as well as odor. not to mention it's so much cheaper to buy a $4 tote from Big Lots instead of the fancy $20 litterboxes with a lid.

i'm curious as to how our phone bills are going to be once he moves here. for a long time i was like futuremrs and only called him once a week. it sucked but i just couldn't afford it. thankfully, he got a phone capable of sending text messages so we text eachother a lot too. he doesn't have internet, that could've saved a lot of money in phone bills too.

jay: doesn't DHL have some tracking info on that? if i were you i'd be finding out who signed for it at the embassy.
kimmy & luvtravlin: thanks for the info. i knew what she's doing couldn't possible be good for her. she should know better...she's a pharmacy technician for cryin out loud. her husband is a major weed smoker and she mentioned to me once that he only buys this really expensive kind of weed from someone called a nugget. all of this is greek to me. i've never smoked the stuff. and i didn't even know what it smelled like until i visited jamaica. i thought i was smelling a skunk! lol

yup. i figure they do that because it's not a prepaid service. i'm nervous about linking my debit card to something that withdraws money without my control. i spend about $100/month on long distance now and that's tolerable since i know it won't be going on much longer.

I told you guys.........3UTelecom........17 cents a minute. No monthly fees, connection fees, whatever.....And, they charge you to the second instead of rouding up to the minute every call. We've had it now for nearly 2 years. Best thing I ever did.
they have requirements & not everyone is eligible for it.
Requirements? What are you talking about?
they ran a credit check on me and they want you to have a credit card. they turned me down.

i'd like to revisit the ganja use topic. it sounded like there are some people here that are in the health/mental health field. i know someone (a family member) who takes anti-depression/anti-anxiety medication and she smokes weed. obviously, she's emotionally unstable. she has terrible mood swings and she'd difficult to get along with. now this is her without weed (and yes, she's a hot mess lol). my question is, what is the potential effects of using weed along with these prescriptions?

i used tel3advantage for a year and i loved the rate and the pin-less dialing. it was so convenient to add more credit to my account over the internet. then it got crazy. i could no longer get through. and even though my calls weren't being connected, it was eating my minutes. this happened over several weeks, and every time i'd call customer service and tell them my problem, they gave me the same cookie-cutter speech and they'd only give me a few dollars of credit when so much more money was wasted trying to make these calls. i finally abandoned them and started using verizon wireless long distance. they cost about twice as much, but the connection is so much better. mega fone was great too. i hope my fiance can straighten out all the problems he's having with it cause we're both saving tons of money using it.

it feels great to have the next step in this leg of the journey completed. i just bought my plane ticket too.
future mrs did you try calling the embassy yesterday?
