    Hello all,

I lost my main job yesterday but, I'm currently working two other part time jobs (which is totally different than what I submitted in my original petition) which one of them , I will eventually make more money.  Any day now, I should receive my packet 3 email from the embassy requesting information that I need to have for my fiance's interview. I do have a co-sponsor but I'm a little bit confused.  So my question is when filling out the affidavit of support because I do have some income, should I fill out the I134 form and have my co-sponsor fill out the I834 form or should I (the petitioner) fill out the I864 form and my co-sponsor fill out for I864A? And of course, I'm going to submit transcripts for both of us.  K1 Visa/Ghana

    Thank you in advance

Both you and your cosponsor must fill out form I-134.

Hi! I got a mail from the nvc that the approved I-129f was received and that will now be forwarded to the US embassy or consulate Lagos. It says the transfer process could take weeks. Does anyone know what the time line is for the several weeks wait and also what could I possibly do right now in the course of the wait. ( maybe pay for the visa fee or something) I need help please

Ours was being transferred to Accra. It said weeks but got their 2 days later by the grace of Almighty God!

I received the NOA2 on December 3, 2018. I emailed the NVC and they said they received it and would be giving me a new case number. It is January 2nd and I still haven’t revieved anything.

How long Does it usually take for them to give you a case number? And is this something they email to you or send in the mail?

Also at what step do you fill out the DS -160 form?

Can my fiancé go and get the medical interview now or do we need to wait for the NVC to send us a case number?

My plan is to go to Indonesia when my fiancé gets the interview to bring all of my tax documents, affidavit of support, etc. and go to the interview together. Just trying to also figure out what I’m looking at as far as when we should expect the interview as I am a nurse and need to take off of work at least a month in advance.

Thank you all whoever reads and responds. I sincerely appreciate it!!!!

I had to call NVC. Before I even asked she gave me the case number and invoice ID.

If I were you I’d finish the k-1 route, get her here and marry and apply for AOS, EAD (work permit) and AP ASAP. Then I would file an expedite for the work permit for the job with her current company. You’d just have to make sure that her company will be willing to do it that way.

I agree. Let them know that you have the Visa interview in two weeks. Sorry the company told you so late. I wouldn't think they'd have a problem

Sorting through the timelines, the most recent NVC case number I can see among VJ members was generated 12/27 (received 11/8). It almost seems like they have stopped generating numbers....

My NVC receive date is 11/21.

Has anyone here received a case number after 12/27?

I did but I called them. Before I could even ask they gave it to me, along with the invoice ID.

No. Don’t do anything now. Make sure the beneficiary has all the paperwork with her at the interview. She can explain it there. Don’t worry about changing the petition. Be honest with the CO and you should be fine.

Okay. Should I send him my court records and the Court's decision once they make one? And should I send a signed statement?

Wow!!!  Very similar. We were told by an agency that I should say no since I was expunged. Here is the truth...you should answer YES. The I-129f is all about the petitioner. Just like you, my YES would not have made any difference in the petition. It was a misdemeanor battery arrest that was dropped and later expunged. By court order all digital and paper copies of the arrest were to be destroyed and they were. I do have a copy of the expungement order though.

It seems that lawyers know as much about this as the agencies we pay to help do. If you read the actual directions they specifically says that the petitoner should answer yes if they were ever arrested even if someone tells them to answer no or they were expunged. I have a feeling they have seen this before. I would try to amend the petition but I also have to say that since this happened to me I have heard from at least a dozen people in almost the same situation (answered no when they had an arrest) and they were all approved. Your lawyer and my agency were both wrong. It isn’t the end. If you can amend try that. We were approved by NVC. They took my wife’s and step kids passports and congratulated us at the interview but 48 hours later saw that we were refused. It happened after the interview in AP. At some point try to fix that honest mistake and you will be fine. It is more about the disclosure than the actual arrest.

    Hey,

I'm the petitioner. When I filed the I-129f, I had no record. Just this week, my sister and I had an altercation and I was arrested but out on bond. The courts say it will be a misdemeanor for my first offense.

Am I supposed to contact NVC or amend the application? Right now, I think it is too far along and I need to cancel all together.

What do I do? It seems like the lawyers may misadvise. I just saw someone say that It wouldn't need to be adjusted but I want to confirm.

Remember with a K1 the requirement is to marry within 90 days of entry into the US. You can always marry at the courthouse to fulfill the legal requirement and then plan an elborate reception at a later date. Maybe your vendors would be willing to waive the rescheduling fees if you chose an off-season date with more avaibaility. Sometimes vendors are more flexible with dates that are not during prime season. It may not be axactly what you envisioned but it might help with the financial side. Don't panic just yet, but it wouldn't hurt to call the vendors and explore options. Hope things work out.

Definitely! At this point my main concern is that my fiance gets here and we can marry. I will definitely let my vendors know what's going on and see what options we have.

    Thank you!

My sister please relax and pray , the  COs are totally unpredictable. Just try and know each other very well before the interview and if there are any red flags try to know how to deal with it , i mean the answers that you will give to the COs when you are asked to explain . VJ always helps to prepare you in advance for your interview but it doesn't mean other people's shortfalls will apply to your case  " DIFFERENT PEOPLE DIFFERENT CASES DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES "

Thank you so much for the encouragement! What you have said is very true. We will pray continuously and be careful. When the time comes, we will be prepared for the decision.

I know that Ghana has been notated as a high fraud country but personally I don't think you have to worry. Honestly, Visajourney sometimes gave me more anxiety than I needed to have. I know my husband did not come from a high fraud country so I cannot relate on that aspect, but at the same time the CO wants to see pictures with family to show you have a true relationship so i don't think that's bad evidence to send.

Thanks for the encouragement. I mean it. I don't know what will happen. Should things go wrong, I now know what my plan B is thanks to visa journey.

I'm going to pray about my plan A and trust in God with all my might. I know it looks silly to do so but at this point that's all that I can do. Not that I'm special, but God is able.

    Thanks again!

Not sure how you can time a Wedding based on a K1 so far in advance when there are so many variables that can come into play, no matter the view on the knocking ceremony, I know this ceremony has been discussed in detail in past threads.

It's pretty normal to time a wedding. I didn't know about all of the things going wrong. I looked at the longest time it took and added 3 months. It's an honest mistake so I'd rather not even discuss that. And you should read my previous responses. I think many people here assume that people applying should know all of this and all the details, as you said. What needs to be understood is that if someone is asking a question, it's usually because they found this site afterward. So everyone would need to be kind and pray for them. I cannot understand how we all know how stressful these processes are and to see someone who didn't know and basically make them feel worse.

Since you were not sure how I could or why, I'm writing this so you can understand. I was careful and waited and researched before applying. Now it's like coming into a world of information and wishing you'd seen it sooner. Please, PLEASE, be aware of this if you happen to see someone else that seemed to be making stupid decisions that could have been avoided. We all make mistakes.

Well you still have a wait don't know what date you picked fro wedding but you still have some processing to do then getting into that calendar to pick your interview date.. Ghana and Nigeria that I know are already in March and April dates so be prepared for that you could well be in May April or May Interviews.

You asked what you can do. At this point all your fiance' can do is be honest at interview. Can't undo what has been done. Just be prepared.

And I actually know a couple had interview a few weeks ago and she was there in Ghana and the CO requested for her to come and talk to them to answer questions. If she didn't come to Ghana we are sure he would have been denied. In this case you being there probably makes no matter since the knocking ceremony is a Ghanaian tradition not American so your fiance' needs to speak on that if it comes up.

All you can do now is have faith all is well. Start calling NVC in 2 to 3 weeks to get your case# so you can get things moving along. Good luck.

    Thank you

having  a positive thinking is the best. You need to relax over this. Consular officers to Ghana typically get a brush up on our customs. What you describe is a knocking ceremony and everyone in Ghana  knows the knocking is not the wedding (traditional marriage). so what is your problem .Indeed in our culture the knocking is similar to  western engagement. If it comes  up at the interview,  tell the co lil bit about it. you can also start thinking of cr1. wish you  all the best.

Thank you! We are doing our best to pray and stay positive.

What happened after the knocking ceremony?  Were gifts accepted?  Did you go to his home?  Is wearing matching outfits usually customary at the knocking ceremony?  Is it customary at the wedding?

I am not judging.  I am curious concerning the customs there.

I asked my fiance last night. There were NO gifts exchanged. I don't know if wearing matching outfits is normal. No I didn't go to his home. After the knocking ceremony everyone left. From what he told me, it is custom to have a knocking ceremony a few weeks before a traditional wedding. But there was no bride price, gifts or anything. We are going to pray and trust God. I know there are many other cases where it caused problems but I have to have faith now that God will allow them to understand that it wasn't a wedding.

They tend not to update you until you get a case number and NVC will email or mail it to you. You can call NVC to find out when they received your case and from that date count 8 weeks, but the most common wait time is about 6 weeks from when they receive it. But you or your partner should try calling to find out the information anyway. And call early morning or late at night otherwise its a loooong wait on hold.

Thanks so much for the info and advice!

I haven't received anything either. The date in my noa2 is November 30th. I still haven't received anything saying that the petition was successfully sent from USCIS to NVC, yet alone a case number

You’re not screwed. You need to relax and stop fretting over this. Consular officers posted to Ghana typically get a brush up on our customs. What you describe is a knocking ceremony and everyone knows the knocking is not the wedding (traditional marriage). Indeed in our culture the knocking is exactly the equivalent of a western engagement. If it comes up at the interview, tell that consular to ask any ghanaian working with him/her behind the counter.

That is never recommended, prepaying wedding expenses when you do not control the process. These processes sometimes get delayed. Nevertheless what’s done is done, stay positive.

    Thank you
